Also, what's with all the Eamon hate? Sheesh. I liked the guy. My Cousland completely understand where he is coming from. Yes, it's not pretty, but it is realistic and she understands the politics behind it. It's one of the reasons I did a Cousland/Eamon story to show that side of the characters.

My Cousland likes him just fine.  *I* don't like him (understatement of the year, that).

In fact, I just re-did my final battle with my Cousland yesterday, because I didn't like the "you idiot, of COURSE you'll be serving the throne, being queen and all" response from Alistair if you request your boon to be serving the crown.  Sure, Eamon leaves then, but it felt way too metagamy for me.  My Cousland is totally on the same page as Eamon wrt Alistair's bloodline being important, nor does she believe that being a Warden negates that fact.  After all, she has a vested interst in beliveing this line of rhetoric...

She's also in the Alistair's gonna need all the help he can get camp, so Eamon leaving would actually upset her.  Plus, having him around is convienent, because then she's not stuck with Regent Duty every time Alistair leaves Denerim.

Excellent!  It seems that finding others who are on the same page as me regarding Eamon is difficult.  I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinsk that way.  Out of curiousity, does your Cousland believe like mine does that Alistair needs an heir, even if it's not with her?

Some have, some haven't. My most recent PC told him that having an heir wasn't necessary, and he said maybe it wasn't. Alistair wouldn't be the first king who had to name a relative as heir. Besides, the odds are against his having a baby with anyone, it's just even more impossible with the PC. Might as well deal with that up front.

Speaking for my character, it was her plan that if in a few years they did not have an heir, they would discuss the dire necessity.  Not wanting Eamon around is more a factor of not wanting someone pressuring them on this point every other day.

Alistair having a child with someone else isn't the only possibility under that "dire necessity," however.  My HNF would probably offer to abdicate and let him take another wife.  I think they would also consider the pact they made when they agreed to the Dark Ritual, however:  I will share you if it means I get to keep you.  And thus, the Cousland queen could also take a secret lover, try to get pregnant, and they raise the child as Alistair's.

None of the options are good when you reach this point.

Mmmm, I did a fanfic that deals with my Cousland striking a bargain with Eamon about that. My Cousland queen would never even think about passing off someone else's kid as Alistair's though.

Just glad to see I'm not alone, though. ^_^

I believe that in many instances it was perfectly acceptable for childless monarchs to formally adopt some suitable half-distant relative as heir.

On a side note, since my Cousland is male I married Anora instead to become King. Anders had a hilarious response to my character being King. He asked me what I would do once everything was over:

Me: I'll go back to Court

Anders: Ah yes, the old ball and chain...

Does he say something similiar to a female warden married to Alistair?

A kiss on the cheek for both wife and lover of Alistair. He greets his wife as "wife" and lover as "love" -- specifically when he asks if you were hurt in the assault. Then, he refers to you as "love" for either being his wife or lover when you two speak alone briefly side from the others.

Very sweet... I feel bad for my wardens who romanced Liliana and Zevran.

Yes she has... but even though conceiving an heir "through magical means" has been confirmed as possible, so has "it will never happen in game".  She doesn't know that, of course, but she does know she's going to have to start fighting that battle as soon as possible.  Wynne is staying at court*, and if working with her doesn't work out she's going to Avernus.

If that doesn't pan out either, well, then it's either a mistress or maybe something like a threesome with Leliana.  If/when this third party got knocked up, she would claim to be pregnant and state she needed it get away from court to "have the baby in peace" or some nonsense.  She and this woman would then either go to Highever or somewhere in the mountians or hills or something, limiting those she allowed into her personal space (think like being locked in a tower) to just essencial people and a midwife.  A cottage in the hills or something might even be better, because they could pass off as anonymous, if they brought in a local midwife.  Highever wouldn't give them that option, but they'd have Fergus on their side to help protect them from unwanted eyes.  He could also vouch for her being there, and ensuring that she is not disturbed.

*I seriously think the Wynne cameo was added to Awakening just for this reason.  To get her away from court** and thus remove her from being able to help magically conceive an heir to the throne.  Though Cousland's sure going to ask her to ask around this College of Magi for ideas and input.

**Yes, I know, there's also the whole "I'm going to Tevinter" thing, with or without Shale.  I've only gotten that ending once, with my male Morrigan romancing mage.  Every other playthrough I've done she's stayed at court, even the one where Lady Aeducan and Alistair ran off to rebuild the Wardens.

The Calenhad legend is the important thing, though.  And Cousland blood is in itself no cheap stuff.  If it means staying together and keeping the kingdom together, it gets put on the list of the dire necessity.

Out of curiousity, where was it confirmed that two Grey Wardens definitively cannot have children together?

@Gabey5:

This thread is full of fangirls.  Were you really expecting anyting different?

Gaider said it here in the forums.  He said it would not happen, definitively, by any natural means.  Later on in the discussion, he added that if there were some Tevinter fertility charm or something that could work, why not.

So, like Jim Carrey might say... "It's million to one and all but impossible?  So you're saying there's a chance!"  Image IPB

Lady Damodred: It's this thread (I just included David Gaider's posts).

I actually like that there is no easy happy ending for a relationship with King Alistair. To even be together requires one compromise (two if you're his mistress) and the heir thing will require those who are queen to probably make an incredibly hard decision down the road (assuming that it's something that gets touched on). I don't think I would like the Alistair romance if there wasn't so much potential for woe and catastrophe.

Gaider confirmed it on the forums. Two GW cannot have a child through natural methods no matter what. He then said that it "may" be possible by non-conventional methods, such as using magic, charms, and etc. So basically its left up to our imagination for the time being.

Ah, thank you very much.

*now simply ignores this information for her fanfic* ;)
