Because Awakenings is significantly larger than all previously released DAO dlc. you're getting a lot more content than WK/RTO, its bigger so it costs more.

Check on other websites. I've seen Awakening as cheap as 17 euros (in the netherlands) and 20 euros (whole europe).

DLC is a single quest line that can be finished within 1 - 2 Hours and gives a few cool items.
DA:A is a expansion witch adds many new area new NPC's lots of new skill's and talents and many new items as well as side-quest and main plot.

its more a mini game then a DLC =P

The price in Hong Kong is around US $22.

It is a plain DVD with a thin booklet. I'm not sure whether there are any additional items if they charge that much in europe.

Bioware's Expansion packs, in my experience, have been new campaigns set in the same world rather than stuff like for The Sims (1, 2 or 3). This is the first time that they haven't added new content that was usable in the original campaign, though.

Its flippin £31.99 on the PSN store and Europeans cannot buy a hard copy as well which totally sucks. Why such a high price when the XBOX360 version is boxed and £24.99 brand new in store???

I disagree. It all depends on what your definition of DLC is. EA wants you to think exactly what you've written and it's sad that the trend is catching on.  If you want an example of good length DLC, look no further than Borderlands. 5-10 hours of gamepla for $7-10 bucks. Granted, Borderlands has little dialogue, but the same thing can be said about DA DLC. Take RtO for example. The whole DLC is 45 minutes of mindless darkspawn bashing with uber loot. Worth the money? I don't think so...

It is an official expansion for the original release, although I must admit, it is not a finished product!

At least he's considering buying instead of getting it for free by other means.

Bought mine for around 20 euro (PC). Live in Sweden, so it was not so expensive.

The issue here is that in comparison with the XBOX360 version the PS3 version which is not even available in store in Europe and downloadable only is way more expensive. Please someone from Bioware confirm that the £31.99 price tag is intended so people know

You're an idiot.  Just because someone wants a certain return from their investment doesn't mean they are poor.  Do you flush money down the toilet just to prove how rich you are?

Its expensive because you bought into the whole 'console' genre...

If you want to provide Sony with an extra Tenner for everything you buy, then thats your choice, it was my choice not too :)

Oh yeah, here we go, it's all a giant corp conspiracy~! get the tin foil caps everyone, paranoid forum game insider on a soap box alert~! good thing you're spreading the word on a forum for no one to care, way to fight the power dude~! sure the heads of EA are cowering in fear of random internert forum guy!

As for the actual topic, it's $40, get over it, problem solved

No, that's not what DLC means. Anything that you download through the Xbox Live Marketplace is considered to be DLC.

Well whatever "anyone" wants me to think...being that I have been around for many years playing many games, mostly MMOs...I tend to think my own thoughts, make my own decisions..and don't usually get swayed into "sheeple" thought processes...that require you to agree with the going "knot in the face" trend that others happen to be displaying here.
DA has a few bugs here and there, but so does any other game I have played over the years.    Restarts,  usually fix it ..or a reload if it really needs it.   Other than that ..enjoyable expansion ..missing a few things I wanted to see, but maybe they'll fix things like that for the future.

Awakening is an expansion...usually takes me about 22 to 24 hours to finish it up.     But thats me.     A dlc would be like RTO..2 hours max ....(played with level 12 characters not level 20s :P)
