That and it's highly unlikely that any DLC romance would get the same treatment the vanilla LIs got -- the whole reason Zaeed and Kasumi don't have proper dialog wheels and Normandy cinematics, for instance, is because crafting those scenes is extremely expensive and time consuming. I don't think people realize just how much effort goes into those casual conversations. It's the combined effort of programmers, testers, cinematic directors, writers, Q&A guys, editors, narrative analysts (yes they exist), sound dept, VAs, etc to make those happen. All things considered, a new DLC romance would not get the benefit of this.
That's why people are more interested in seeing existing romances expanded; they already have a foundation and would be easier to implement/expand, as well as addressing a common complaint (the romances are too fast, we want more content for them, etc.)

How about a dangerous mission with the Hammerhead to retrieve a prototype of an automatic resource scanner so that you can spend more time with your LI. That would even convince the people who don't care about LIs to start a romance and buy the DLC for 20 dollar.GothamLord wrote...
Whos to say the added romance couldnt mesh into a mission ?? Getting something for said LI, and further developing characters.
And I love the expansion of the idea here where we can rid of planet scanning at the same time!
Finally, to those saying how weird it is enjoying a relationship with virtual characters - would you say romances are weird in books, movies, plays, etc? After all, those aren't real people either.

Not Weird, but I don't read/play/watch most things for romance, unless it's a Romance movie or Porn (different subject but same context). I like War, violence, Science, death. I also like mudkips. Romance is nice, but it has it's moments, everyone's trying to force the Developers to focus on Romance, and that's whats making me sad.

That is a fair comment.
I am not specifically a fan of soap, chicklit, or Julia Roberts movies, though I confess a weakness for period novels and drama. There are very few video games where romance is treated in quite the same way as Bioware do it and I like the growth of more mature themes in computer games such as love, betrayal, tragedy, etc.
Of course romance will always be more fun if mixed with war, violence, science and death, especially if it is seasoned with some rock and roll.

Any new romance would have far less of a chance at carry-over/impact in ME3 due to it being DLC-exclusive.

Well, as I said, we've got until ME3. That's plenty of time.
In any event, carryover into ME3 is a nonissue if they release the character(s) through the Cerberus Network. If that's how they handle it, then it's free for everyone who bought a new copy of the, so there's no excuse not to have it.

The DLC would add a new rifle / gun via a mission. This rifle has a highly advanced AI in it. When wielding the rifle, it would make smart ass comments whilst blasting enemies faces. Optionally you could also romance it getting to know it better and eventually taking it up to your cabin.

The only thing my Shepard would romance is his gun. That said perhaps we can strike common ground between the gung ho shepards and the womanizing shepards.

This is a stupid idea. I would rather have more gameplay... heck from what I hear there is talk that the upcoming Hammerhead DLC is going to be very short and crappy. If true on both accounts BioWare is going to be forever known in the gaming industry as a JOKE when it comes to DLC... just look at what happened with DA:O's DLC and Awakening... pshhhh. Whatever. At this point.... I don't care anymore.
Fun fact - the game came out a month and a half ago. ME3 won't be out for another 2 years, in all likelihood. There's plenty of time to fill that with all sorts of content.
If something like this was released, in addition to gameplay packs, would you really have anything to rage about?
i still say me3 will be out summer 2011 early 2012 the most. as far as this dlc go's it sounds great but id really like a bigger expansion of side quasts that are longer and harder

I don't know how I feel about this.
I play Mass Effect because I'm a spectre out to save the galaxy, not because it's a dating sim....
Ugh
My thoughts on this exactly! I mean is it a bloody dating game people want now all of the sudden? hahaha
There ought to be something thats far better to concentrate resources on imo.
Sure it could be good if you got some story in there with treason, death and whatnot but just dating?? Come on! no way i want that.

Really, blowing **** up only goes so far before I yawn in complete boredom. I don't care about about the science or the war or the explosions. I care about the characters. Let's try to actually deepen those connections instead.

There is enough twitch fest shooting... let's add actual substance to the DLC by having substantial character development and giving the opportunity for those gamers that want a deeper romance to pursue it.

Agreed but romance ? really. Get more powers and other custimization things done with some story based 8where more dialouge and story about the squad mates is reveled) dlc, but romance and heavy weapons seems to be the thing for Me 2.
What a joke this is becomming.
