Lots of enemies are clearly wearing armor in battles so why don't they have a yellow armor bar?
Why does Harbringer have a yellow armor bar but no health? Why do scions have only armor? Why do husks have armor on insanity?

They're just gameplay decisions.

I personally think the soldier should of had the armor bar for its defense. Everything would of felt better mechanically I think.

I agree. The Soldier should have a yellow armor bar.

the soldier has a blue shield bar then and red health? they should have a yellow one instead thats a good call. i just see some enemies with health, armor, and a tech shield and thats how i play a sentinel and i was thinking how my defensive layer would look to them.

I'd say it's because armor obviously doesn't regenerate, so if Shepard had an armor bar the same way the enemies do, the armor (and the kinetic shield it powers) would be gone after the first firefight and you'd be running around in your skivvies. Not a very practical gameplay mechanic.

Self regenerating armour is easily explainable by some type of nanite based tech babble. Health, thanks to halo, has universally been accepted as being regeneratable, so anything else can be too. In other words, yes, it'd make more sense to have soldier with an armour bar like grunt. Lorewise marines have shields and armour, but armour always seemed to be more mitigation based than avoidance based. That in itself would be an interesting mechanic to introduce, soldier with dmg mitigation instead of avoidance, with alot more base health and decreasing mitigation the more he's hit. Difference for difference sake of course, but what else is the point between seperate classes.

Vorcha can restore their armour ... it's flimsy, etc. but still they can.

From the game

Collector Chitin Armour. Cerberus adapted this suit for you out of salvaged Collector technology. The Collectors' chitinous armour is flexible and even tougher than ballistic fibres. Its organic constructions allows it to be self-healing, and the muscle-like tissue that assists movement ensures it is comfortable to wear despite its weight

Also, plenty of games allowed regenerative healing decades before Halo.

Grunt can also restore his armor and it's not flimsy at all. I also agree that soldiers should have armor instead of barrier/shield. There should also be research for combat powers that gives a cooldown reduction bonus like there is for biotic/tech powers.

Grunt doesn't have armour. He has shields.

i'd suspect that much of the removal of Armor as protection for Shepard is because the majority of players suffered far more Shield damage, rather than health damage in their ME1 playthroughs...so the shields remained, becoming all-important, whilst armor, was basically changed into "plastic looking clothing, with built in shield generators, and other semi-useful bonusses"

Look again. His bar that indicates armor/shields/barriers is yellow, thus implying armor.

I persomally thought that soldiers and Inflitrators should have armor as opposed to shields. Then we'd have 2 classes with each type of defeses.

heh, i'm glad people agree with my kind of thinking. I guess we armor defense hopefuls will just have to hope that in ME3 they change this.

Grunt doesnt have armor, he has shields

wrong, its easiest to go to the squad selection screen. Instead of shields it should say armor.

Grunt indeed has armor. Most squad members have shields. You can see if you/squadmates have armor or shields by lookinng under their HP on the status screen.

Grunt of course uses armor like all soldiers should. However, Christina Norman said that Shepard doesn't have the option to use armor for reasons of balance. If that was the case, and as I said in my previous post, there should also be a cooldown reduction bonus for Fortification like there is for Barrier or Geth Shield Boost. And Christina Norman thinks that this would make Grunt more of a beast that he now is. Personally, I disagree with this but I am not the lead gameplay designer myself.
