I used mana clash quite a number of times when I played it last night and had no issues. Do you have any mods installed? Were you having crash issues before this?

Eurypterid's right, Mana Clash has no problems with usage in the game as far as I can tell, so it must be something on your end.

No mods installed whatsoever.  I'm running the Steam version of the game.  If I restart the game I can use it, but usually within a fight or two it will crash the game again.

The only issues I ran into before this is the persistent memory leak others seem to be getting as well.  If need be I can throw up my DXDiag.

Elanthanus: are any other spells causing crashes or is it just Mana Clash?

Insanebunny: I'm not blaming the end user. Just trying to narrow down if there might be something that's easily fixed. I know there have been quite a number of reports of crashing with patch 1.03 and Awakening. This may be another user with that issue, but if it were possible to eliminate a mod or something simple that may be causing it, that's the thing to try first.

My game has been crashing with Mana Clash post-1.03 although it also infrequently crashes with other spells. No crashes whatsoever pre-1.03.

I also have a problem with Mana Clash crashing the game unexpectedly. Seems to happen when the opposing mage is also about to cast something, stopped using it for the course. The only mods i have are the bioware approved digital downloads, and the dragon age journeys accomplishment awards. Seems like Final Reason also doesn't transfer over to Awakening.

Just Mana Clash from what I've seen so far.  Again, it's not a one size fits all situation.  A restart will temporarily fix the issue.  It also won't -always- crash the game, but the crashes are more common than the successful casts.

It's also worth noting that I do not own Return to Ostagar, and with no mods or DLC items in Awakening I think it can be either isolated down to hardware, operating system, or core games.

I have the same problem with mana clash - it did not occur before 1.03 and does now. It does seem to only crash if you hit an enemy with it as they are casting a spell (i think? used it twice after reading this post!). Running windows vista and using an nvidia 8800 GT graphicscard.

I also have this issue... Happens frequently if I use it mid-battle, it also happened once when I used mana clash on a group around a corner who hadn't seen or aggro'd me yet. The emissary bit the dust in place, then when I rounded the corner and aggro'd the rest of his buddies, it crashed.

I have also experienced crashes when doing the paralysis explosion combo.

Didn't have either of these issues before 1.03 and/or Awakening

Having the same problem. Never happend before the 1.03 patch. I'm very disappointed because this with spell might is my favorite way to 1 shot enemy casters.. I know it's not a hardware issue for me. Win7 - Intell Q6700 quad -4 gig -Radeon 4970 x2. As long as I'm in a cool room

(4970s are like a gas furnace btw) my comp can run anything. Maybe if they shrink the spells blast radius it won't make the mana that runs the game implode ;P

Eurypterid's right, Mana Clash has no problems with usage in the game as far as I can tell, so it must be something on your end.

NO it's the ****ty patch they released...any spell does it...(but I have noticed it seems to happen a lot more with mana clash myself also)...open your eyes and read some of the other threads and you'll see this problem is affecting quite a number of people.

I have the Steam version and it clocks my total play time...as of this post...409 HOURS....it crahsed a couple times on a fluke during that many hours of play...but afte 1.03 patch it's all the time....I've turned the diff down to easy so I don't ahve to micromanage (as swapping chars can and DOES cause a crash....I try not to cast any spells (as they cause crashes)..and I try to face my character away from the action..because...yep..crash.

I've tried 6 times to beat the arch-demon and can't because it crashes at varying points throughout the fight cause it's so long and so many effects going off all over the place...

my end? get out of my face...all drivers are up to date....I even removed mods and tested..no change...then removed and reinstalled the ****ing game...NO CHANGE....done searches to find drivers taht have been confirmed to be more stable with this idiot patch release..etc.

it's the patch..plain and simple.

LoL spells? I can stand still and crash. I can be in a conversation and crash. Sten can be taking a sh*t in the party camp and I'll crash. Basically after a few short minutes 3-5 usually I'll crash. Before patch 1.3 I haven't seen anyone posting about crash issues. After patch 1.3 the forums are exploding with posts about crashing / and what seems like a long list of other issues. It's the patch end of conversation.

It's just taken a dozen attempts to get through the lost and inferno golem encounter, regardless of whether I use mana crash or not.

I have tried turning graphics settings down to their lowest and reducing the screen resolution.

I too had absolutely no problems before patch 1.3 was released.

First of all, I wasn't talking to you, so you don't need to take it so personally. Second, I'm sorry I don't have the time to look through hundreds of threads on here, I only saw this topic and thought I'd add my two cents to it. I assumed that since I didn't have any problem, and several other people apparently do not have the problem, that it's simply an issue on the OP's end. Obviously it isn't, as evidenced by your anger-ridden post. So I apologize for being ignorant.

I would have hoped that a Mature rated game would have a mature player base. Apparently not...Although I do hope this issue is resolved as soon as possible.

Regardless I WAS talking to YOU...so frankly..whatever.

And it might help if you know the issues before you open your mouth..adding your 2 cents isn't worth squat when there's tons of threads all contradicting what you say...it's not an isolated incident....perhaps read more to actually know somewhat of what's goin on before we reply would be worth you adding anything to it.

And I like how you insult me by the backhanded insinuation of immaturity....funny that...since when was insulting mature? hi pot..I'm the kettle...

And perhaps people like me wouldn't be so hostile if we could get someone besides a moderator who doesn't even have anything to do with game development/bug squashing at least acknowledge these problems...as of yet we really haven't seen anything from an actual dev.

Hm. You're not the only one having problems you know...I can't even progress through the game due to an invisible barrier blocking my path. We'll just have to be patient.

On another note, I used Mana Clash repeatedly as a test, and I crashed a few times as a result. However, turning off all background applications on my computer seemed to resolve the problem. Maybe you guys could try that, I don't know.

Mana clash crashes me as well.  I'm don't have Awakening installed.  ATI card.
