 Hi

No matter what I do they always kill her.
Even if I just offer to pay the money up front.
How do I save here?

I intimidated the bad guys, most of them ran away, and I killed the rest. I've got maxed persuasion though, and somewhere around 40 strength. I did manage to save the girl though.

Or, you can use Persuasion the good way, in which case you trick them into giving you the girl before you give them the money, and then you kill them.

I intimidated them. You start off by telling him the Bann sent the Commander of the Grey, which makes one thug get all weepy right away. Then the intimidation line is something like "I have a river of blood following me, touch her if you dare." Fight ensues, damsel saved... we do good work.

Hi

Thank's I'll give intimidation a try, I kept trying to be nice.

My persuasion skills aren't that high.

I persuaded them to send her over, than told them "She was the only thing protecting you" then attack and despite the fact they run all over the place they never attack her.

I'm a rogue so my cunning bonus helps a great deal. I knew making my noble a rogue was a good idea, they make great politicians.

Well that didn't work either, I'll go away and come back later when I'm stronger.
My character is a level 23 Mage.
I don't have any problem killing them all but they always kill the girl before the fight starts.

I just want to know when her father will write me at Vigil's Keep. The quest is still sitting in my journal, uncompleted.

Here is what I did.

- Demanded to see the girl first.

- Asked them to send the girl over first before I paid them.

- Told them they weren't getting the money since the girl was the only thing keeping them alive.

- After that returned to the keep talked to the letter lady and collected my reward.

I still haven't been able to complete this quest.
I'm now level 28 Mage.

When I tried the above solution I didn't get any option to say "they weren't getting the money since the girl was the only thing keeping them alive".

If I offer to pay they kill her and attack, anything I do they decide to attack.
Is it possible that there is no solution to the puzzle unless you character has certain characteristics like a high coercion score? I have not spent any points on Coercion!

To get the letter and the reward talk to the girl by the entrance to the throne room...i forget her name...but ask her if there are any messages for you (she is standing outside just before you click to go to the throne room).

To save the girl....

Yes, say the line with grey commander in it...then use intimidation with river of blood....but you know where the girl is...make sure none of them get to her...shield her.

This is a Bioware game. Always spend points in cunning and coercion.

Its really bull&%$t bioware would make a quest only warriors and rogues can complete... ignorant and stupid. But typical... alas I hope they put out a patch to fix this. I don't recomend any caster wasting there time as the girl will die no matter what you do... Unless of course your a sucky caster as it requires 4 coerction, and a minimum of 30 cunning from what i tested out. (thats the number i had when the persuade finnaly worked ofcourse my mana and spells were then lacking pffttt... )

Erm...no. I beat it with a mage. You just need points in Coercion. And since this is a BioWare game, put points in Coercion. Your companions can fill in any skill tree gaps otherwise. Max Coercion only needs 16 Cunning, which you gain almost entirely from Fade bonuses in Origins, wasting no points from Magic or Willpower. Don't blame BioWare for your errors in speccing a character.

I pasased bthe persuade as a mafge with Tier 3 Coercion and 15 Cunning. I was actually surprised it worked. I even waited til I had the 30 sovereigns to start the quest  'cause I expected it not to.

I do agree though they should let the girl go if you pay them the money. It's not like you won't be losing the money and the SWAG doing it that way. One of the captors drops either Dumat's Dagger or Tooth of the Mountain Lion or something. Anyway pretty good dagger for a Rogue especially early game.

16 cunning is enough if you have coercion level 4. As warrior and mage I NEVER go beyond that and still pass every persuasion check (unless the ones which always fail, of course, like marrying the king as non-noble).

Uhm no, its not errors in my class spec moron its the fact bioware forces you to build your characters a specific way in order to do things, instead of allowing the player to build his toon in a way that fun for them.  I don't want to be told as a mage I HAVE TO take coercion, when I need and want other skills instead.   They should have mad the quest completetable by all class combinations and builds not making it a persuade only quest... Sad that you think its fun to be forced down a path and that its the ONLY way to complete things,  thats again bull&^%t.  I stopped playing this cause its still a forced play game and to me thats not fun.  Its too bad they have the limited imagination they have always had since NWN2.  Nothing will compare to the freedom they had with NWN the origional and private mods... sadly. And honestly is there what 3 robes total in game and three staves look wise? this game took how long to make?  Honestly pay your art team more... RPG gaming is rising to new hieghts and this doesn't achieve much on the variatable aspect.... so limited ....

I think of coercion more as "Leadership"; i.e. a character with high coercion is respected and radiates confidence that others look to for guidance. NPC's will feel drawn to this sense of confidence and therefore will be swayed or intimidated by the PC's course of action. To those who said it is a waste to fill out or have to fill out I disagree; because your character has to have effective leadership skills to organize an army to fight the blight and/or fulfill duties as the warden commander.

Isn't strength used for intimidate?

Any way - OP

Bioware designed it so you DONT HAVE to take coersion, however don't expect to be able to lie, sweet talk, convince, or persuade anyone of anything if your character can't chain two sentences together.

Those are learned skills, just like swinging a blade, or throwing a fireball.

It's not biowares fault you made your character and inarticulate dolt.

QFT. I always max coercion/persuasion/charisma or whatever it is called in any Bioware game, especially if I want to play a good character. A good character is supposed to use persuasion rather than force.

What is perhaps missing is a mage talent that can magically enhance the players appearance so he looks more terrifying, so a mage could spend a talent point or two to be able to intimidate as well.
