You're kidding, right? You're not honestly going to try the "She dresses somewhat provocatively so she deserved it!" defense, are you?

I would.  I worked at a dance club for a number of years and it would amaze me how "shocked" some women would get when they received comments or stares from men.  Yes, that is what they wanted when selecting that outfit.  Maybe not from the guy they got it from but that's irrelevant.  Women should know that revealing or provactive clothing is not a laser guided smart bomb.  Sometimes you're aiming for the doctor in the Benz but collateral damage will also hit the toothless bum waiting for the bus.  That's the risk.  Unwanted physical contact is inexcusable no matter what a woman wears, but drawing attention?  Kind of the risk you take.

Comments like a suggestive "nice outfit" or something are one thing.

Telling a woman that her butt is too bony to provide adequate cushion is disgusting no matter what she was wearing.

That whole argument is stupid. A woman can wear whatever she wants; it doesn't mean she can be sexually harrassed. Have a little more class.

Saying "that's the risk" or something like "that's just how men are!" = pathetic excuses for disgusting behavior.

I wouldn't say they deserved it, no, but from someone like Oghren- master of the Uncouth- it is to be expected. You're Wardens, not the chastity patrol. People will make comments- some dumber than others- in keeping in line with their characters. Oghren is a bit of an oaf. Is she supposed to tip toe around the daisies? He acts rudely around the Commander, he's not going to hold back around a fellow Warden. And seeing just how much of a jackass most of the other characters are capable of being, people are getting as good as they're giving.

Yes, I believed Oghren's discussion with Morrigan about Shapeshifter bestiality were far more couth and artsy in their execution for the Original: Dragon Age.

Meh. I find him funny, and its something I'd expect Oghren to do. I would expect them to slap him back though.

HATE Oghren. He's so annoying. And a dwarf. I'm not fond of dwarves in general and in DA:O their entire culture is a massive crapvalanche. I'll be dumping him as soon as possible once I get the time to play this.

I honestly didn't give a crap about what happened to him. His conversations were annoying because the sarcastic comments i could use in the last game seemed to just ****** him off in this one, and my game apparently still counted the gifts I gave him in the first one and made the other gifts have dimishing returns...so I was screwed on his approval.

If you dont want him dont use him. Aside from the very beginning you don't have to use him you can have a party of 3.

That's kinda pointless advice.

I don't like him now and I won't use him anymore, but the damage is done. I liked him fine until I heard the barrage of crap he utters.

Not using him anymore won't make me think he's any less of a ****, and it won't make me respect his writers any more than I do right now.

I like Oghren, he's one of the few characters who almost always makes me laugh. He's crude, rude, and tactless, but he's also harmless. It's just how he is, dude's always drunk. I didn't find him offensive at all.

Me thinks the lady doth protest too much about the lack of cushioning. Perhaps it's time we pulled up the Sir Mix a Lot scale and get an official ruling?

Really though, He's frecking oghren. He's crude, he's drunk. He fears pants will eat his eyes. Did I like having Wynn crawl up into my personal life and tsk every time the bard and I found a bush? No, but as morrigan chugged so much hatorad all the jewels in ferelden wouldn't bring her around, I was stuck with Oldy McMagicBoobs.

And really, isn't *that* more sexist then orghen bevis and buttheading around? "Here! Eat some shiny things so I don't have to listen to your opinion! Oh, and your whole reason for being here is so that one of us can BONE YOU!"

But yeah. let's pick on the drunken short guy, even though *he* can keep his side boobs covered.

:edited for misuse of "you're"

Umm if you dress like a hooker you get treated like one. Whats so hard to get there?

I dont go wearing a police outfit around and then tell people " Just cause Im dressed this way does not make me a cop " when they run up to me needing help.

Nobody needs more class other than the person dressing like they are out for a streetcorner in the red light district.

Good lord, this is so stupid.

Sigrun is wearing FULL PLATE ARMOR and Oghren still treats her like ****. Velanna was wearing some actual robes (not her starter) when Oghren went on about her butt.

I'm not looking to get into an argument about real life women and what they may or may not wear because it obviously depends on the outfit being worn and the maturity level of the hecklers.

I'm a little confused about that part. Oghren's opinion and lifestyle don't necessarily equate to what the writers really believe. Oghren is a character that you may or may not choose to lug around. As often as not, I've dismissed him from my party with barely a conversation to be heard. The characters are supposed to varied, and that means in all likelihood you're going to like some more than others. Unless you want to suggest that all of Alistair writers are virginial soldiers, all of Morrigan's writers are hardcore jerks, and everyone who wrote Wynne is barrelling towards retirement age, that's not a fair assessment. Good characters are developed regardless of whether every single person is going to like them. That's not the point. If you feel Oghren is overboard, then yes, don't let him in, ignore him, etc. The game would be extensively boring is everyone was sunshine and sugar. There's supposed to be tension and no character will be perfect.

Oghren is written mostly by a woman.

Yes, he is crude, tasteless, vulgar, and depraved. You can hate him for it, or you can laugh at him. I choose the latter. It is the way I'd feel if a friend got drunk and made a complete fool of himself. Half of you would be embarassed, half of you would be somewhat amused, and there will be this extra tiny part which is a little concerned.

"Oh Mr. Templar. What are you going to do with that big sword?" had me laughing so hard, I cried.

I loved Oghren in Origins.
I can't stand him in Awakening.
You can't even joke with him anymore! Every time I try, I lose approval. Couple that with the "mysterious" forgetfulness of how we were war buddies in Origins... well, it just sucks.
I was really excited* that Oghren was back in the expansion. Now I can't get him out of my party soon enough.
*once I got over the fact that I wouldn't get who I REALLY wanted, of course.

Yeah, what I said wasn't really fair to the writers, I'll admit.

I meant more in terms of how certain devs have presented Oghren. He's the only returning Origins squaddy, and they said it was because he's "cool", because the devs liked him, and because people didn't really get to experience enough of him in the original.

That just makes it sound like they're proud of what they made him, and that's what I was really taking issue with. But he's not a very well-crafted character imo even from a technical standpoint, so, yeah.

Shame he couldnt die in the yoining instead of a new character, I already know him and it would give impact to those who like him, and I dont like him so if he dies I still win because I dont have to put up with his immature and stupid behavior.

You had points?

What I got out of your post was that you think Morrigan was more sexist than Oghren, is that right?

I'd disagree, but this isn't really about sexism, so what do you want?

This is about Oghren.

He was... okay in the core game. Yeah, he was crude and mildly disgusting, but WTH happened? He's way over the top in this expansion. It's like the writers are trying to appeal to the 12 year old "haha fart joke" crowd. >_<

He's married with a kid, and he's trying to nail every girl in my party, telling me about his rashes, telling Velanna her bony butt isn't suitable enough as a "cushion" and constantly asks for sex from Sigrun.

And since the only decent warrior I've seen in the game so far died about 20 minutes in, I'm practically stuck with him if I want a warrior's presence at all.

Do people really think this stuff is cool or funny? It's disgusting. <_<

Really.

Oghren beats the other current companions. Course I've only been around the girl war who died, which I liked, figures> I liked her, not that she died that is. Anders and Emo/Nat make me want to uninstall game. Oh, and the buttload of bugs. I stopped playing, is why I'm here actually lol. Wish I saved my 40 bucks and bought this game when the price came down. Oh well.

Og isn't married in my game I don't think. Not to that paragon anymore at least. Cause she dead and stuff.

You're playing a game with beheadings and gore, yet have probs with fart jokes? Interesting.

It's a medieval setting and the people are at war. Violence is to be expected.
And, no, my issue is not with fart jokes. Fart jokes would have been preferable.

Seriously? I'm not a fan of low brow humor, but Oghren is one of those fun drunks to have around, always sticking his foot in his mouth. And he has outright stated he isn't the kind of guy that can be stuck down with one woman ... he isn't looking to marry someone else, he's just looking for a little drunken fun ... he might not even be able to do it if they agreed ... I think he enjoys the innuendo more than he expects to be taken up on it.
