The damage is done?  Please.  You obviously have an agenda here, delicate thing that you are to be so offended by a video game character.  What's pointless is this harping on a meaningless subject.  Did you rant like this about the option to kill Connor?   Likely not.  So slitting a child's throat is LESS offensive to you than a dude who is a fictional race commenting about the ass of a woman from another fictional race.  Really?  Seriously?  In all of the moral soapboxes you could have chosen to climb on top of from playing this game, that's the one you picked?  You don't have issues, you've got subscriptions.

Oghren in DA:O is like my uncle Joe who, once in a while, got toasted at a party and made some off-color (but hilarious) jokes.



Oghren in DA:A is like my uncle Pete who was constantly drunk (when we knew he was coming, we'd hide the liquor), leered at everything in a skirt, and had a mean, nasty edge to his teasing.



It's not a question of not liking off-color humor--I like it just fine. But a steady diet of it gets old really quickly.

Voicing my distaste for one specific (and hugely repetitive) nuisance means I'm okay with all the other "bad" or "evil" things portrayed in the game?

If BioWare made DAO in a sense that had me killing children at every intersection, then, yes, I would have complained about Connor and a bunch of other things. Oghren's BS is done in excess, so I mentioned that it was overdone. It doesn't mean it's OMG THE MOST OFFENSIVE THING EVA!!!

It means it annoyed me enough to comment and discuss on the forums. I'm not on a soapbox; I don't have an agenda apart from letting people know that I was annoyed. That's all. If you feel like ranting and raving about my behavior, well, go ahead. I'll be glad to listen, so to speak.

i dont think he was saying "she deserves it" more of "its kinda to be expected" as dave chapel once said "if i wear a cops uniform, people think im a cop, your wearing a hookers uniform, im gonna think your a hooker"
and also oghren does have a wife, but when she shows up, she throws him out and pretty much says theyll get along on their own. they break up, but he writes and visits the kid. oghrens not really a one woman man, and like most men who are recently "freed up" so to speak, he wants to nail everything in sight lol.

I didn't like Oghren for about 80% of the time in DAO:A, but I kinda get the feeling like I wasn't supposed to like him. Especially after the bit about him walking out on his kid. Did I feel like trying to talk him into acting mature? Hell no. He was just an a**hole, who I kept in my party only cause I needed him, and I let him know it.



Realistically, everyone has that point where you have to work with someone even if you don't like them. I actually felt like he was a deeper character than the elf b**** (who I also hated) or Anders (who was as vapid as he was shallow).

oh sigh, well if your going to get that deep into it.
people say things like that because back in the day, you didnt wear revealing clothing out in public unless you were advertising. that is infact why ladies of the night dressed so, so that people knew what they were, without them holding up a sign saying so. as time went on, the social norm of what is "appropriate" became more laxed. but the fact remains that revealing clothes on anyone, though usually females, are worn because the person is looking for attention, even if its a subconscious kind of thing. though most of the time people are looking for the more "subtle" attention such as a turned head or a second glance from an attractive person they come across.
if i were to walk around in a manthong and no shirt, or barely any shirt, people would assume i either lost my pants somewhere, am drunk, or am selling it/desperate to give it away.
and as far as the felsi cutscene, just because someone hasnt openly in public announced yet that they are splitting up, doesnt mean theres not trouble in paradise.
but it still remains, hes a horny drunk, and thats how horny drunks are. And yes, oghren is pretty much "perma drunk"

Watch who you're calling a child young man ... chances are I'm a decade older than you. Just because one appreciates a different kind of character than you does not make them immature ... as I said, I am not a fan of low brow humor in general, but this kind of character happens to hit a soft spot in me. It helps, of course, that he is entirely fictional! If this were a real person I'd probably find him offensive and not invite him to the family barbecue ... but he isn't real, so one can simply sit back and enjoy the tongue-in-cheek offensiveness of the guy.

If a girl dresses that way, she's trying to indicate something. Hell ****ing yes she deserves it. It doesn't matter if the girl herself doesn't think that way, other people do. Everyone tells you you shouldn't judge a person based on his or her looks, but anyone who has ever had life experience knows that is not true. What they should have told you is that you shouldn't judge someone completely based on his or her looks.

I loled when Ohgren kept trying to get Justice to talk about Kristoff's sex life, and Justice was oblivious, I think he talks like this with everyone except Nathaniel and Anders, had my fvourite lol moments with him and Anders in the party. I never really noticed that he was over the top, mybe i'm just desensitized to it lol.

Oghren is hilarious. I find him far more hilarious in Awakenings than in Origins in fact. It might be offensive if it was coming from a more serious character, but Oghren is a comic relief character and is supposed to be ridiculously over the top. The entire concept for his character is supposed to be a foul, drunk, offensive, and completely oblivious Dwarf.



His banters with Anders specifically had me in stitches.

Honestly, this is what bugged me most about Oghren in this game. Other than that, I didn't hate him, though I did feel that one of Anders' comments summed my opinion up perfectly "Oh look, a dwarf that smells like a brewery. You never see that anywhere." (paraphrased) I think the Awakening crew had a great chance to steer Oghren away from being the stereotypical dwarf character whose sole purpose is comic relief, but instead they chose to double down on that approach. A shame, really.

"That way?" What way? Full plate armor? If a girl dresses in full plate armor she deserves to have guys ask if they can show her their genitals? They deserve to be badgered for sex? Really?

But that's just Sigrun. Let's take Velanna. She doesn't dress that scantily. Her outfit shows a little hip and some cleavage, but otherwise is suitable for her wilderness-focused lifestyle. She's in the chasind robe; it's not that bad. So she deserves to be told that her butt is too bony to be used as proper cushion? Really?

And that's ignoring the fact that she wasn't even wearing that outfit when Oghren was talking to her. She was wearing the model robe that Wynne wears. Oghren was there when I talked to Wynne, why didn't he harrass her? She obviously deserved to be harrassed by dressing in a full-bodied robe. What a skank!

So, I should make topics about every single little thing that annoys me? You talk about logic but you don't seem to have much common sense. That sounds pretty insulting, but come on. Maybe you deserve to be insulted.

I have posted about other things; I just haven't created my own topics about them. This was something that I got tired of because it was so frequent and so over-the-top vulgar. And not only that, but it seems to be glorified. Killing Connor is treated as it should be. You're killing a kid, and there's plenty of drama to reflect that. The mother is sick with grief, desperately fighting to stop you and all that stuff. But Oghren? His sexual harrassment is glorified, like it's comedic gold.

I simply made a topic to say that I didn't find it funny. Please forgive me for not making a billion other topics about everything I dislike. Clearly this has to be the biggest issue ever to come up if I made a topic about it. It must be the most important thing in my life, m i riet?! :happy:

I'd rather have Velanna and Sigrun early. On all subsequent runs I'm just going to have a 3 ranger party. 3 Great Bears are better than Oghren any day, and Nathaniel is infinitely better as a character.

This. I liked more of the characters in Awakening, as shallow as they were, but Oghren just rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, his jokes didn't offend me because that is my taste in humor, but he was just an a-hole. And you couldn't joke with him, which is odd, because you'd think he'd be the one to get the jokes.

He was really just pathetic and not in a sympathizing way. I think Anders says something about him wetting himself during battle once? In Origins I felt so bad for him because obviously Branka leaving him left him shaken and I can't imagine that life as a Berserker Warrior in a noisy city was very easy either. But in Awakening? The best thing that happened to him in my game was him dying at the end. And it's not exactly like a lot of people would miss him, except maybe the child he abandoned anyway.

There are people in this world youw ill not like, and people who act rude, crude and completely obscene. Oghren is one of them, and the choice to use him or not is yours. Theres nothing wrong with the character, he's exactly fine the way he is. If you don't like him, that's /perfect/ because not everyone acts the same way, or will fit your standards and it's good to have characters like that. If I don't like some guys personality, I'm sure as heck not going to bring him around with me everywhere I go. If you HAVE to, for whatever twisted reason, guess what? That's part of your choice, being what class you are, and doing the areas in the order you are. Making choices and living with the consequence is what makes all the new Bioware games so bloody awesome.

personally I found Sigrun really emo, Valenna a **** and Justice too up himself, I spent most of my time with Oghren, Anders and Nathaniel in my party because personally I fund it to have the best banter combination but thats just my opinion.

To tell the truth, Oghren really disturbed me during Awakening. And it has nothing to do with his jokes. At all.

He seems extreemely touchy now. I can't even joke with him anymore. I jokingly lie to him about a pants monster and loose aproval from him. Same happens if I talk to him the way I talked with Origins Oghren. Hell, I just asked him if he was nervous once because I cared and he went ballistic - "Aaaaargh! Of course I'm nervous BLAAAAAAAAAAAAARG!!!"

My warden (and I) just wanted to stay as far away as possible from him. That says a lot. He called me a family in Origins and I considered him to be that nice, drunken uncle you LOVE to spend time with. Now...I don't even know what to think of him.
