I mean come on, when we played ME1, who thought to themselves "Hmmm.... I better hold up on romancing anyone just in case ME2 comes out, it lets me import my ME1 save, and they incorporate a deus ex machina that lets me completely explore other LIs without technically breaking up with the ones from this game."
It's safe to say, probably 90% of the people who imported ME1 saves, did so with their character in a romance. Yet Bioware still added many new LI options. Basically, Bioware knew--and intended--that people cheat on their ME1 romance.

I don't think there will be any serious consequences for having "cheated" on your ME1 LI.

Well, the LIs are there for people who have not played and do not intend to play ME1 as well.

I don't buy that. They went ahead and made a total of 6 possible LIs in ME2, that's twice what was in ME1.
If they wanted to just toss a bone to the people who didn't play ME1, they wouldn't have developed so many romances.

I might see how if you had romanced Liara as cheating, Ashley not so much. I dare her to get in my face about it in ME3.
They don't give you much of a reason to stay with her outside of the comic's there's no unique dialog. Luckly I also made a Shepard who didn't romance anyone.

Of course, that doesn't mean there won't be consequences, or that they will be insignificant.sergio71785 wrote...

It is quite possible that they did it specifically to create the situation for a dramatic confrontation in ME3.
I agree on one level that they probably won't treat it like "cheating", per se, but the fact of the matter is that you will have to abandon one or the other of your relationships. So the important question isn't really going to be if you cheated on them at all, but rather, are you going to abandon them for good when they come back pleading and repentant? I can see the potential for some pretty emotional moments in that.

Or they learned from ME that people wanted moe options for LIs and thus gave them to us.

Actually I would see the opposite. Asari are not known for their committments. Hell, one asari on Illium pretty much tells you that they stay in relationships with humans because it is easier than breaking it off...as though humans are a waste of their time. So if one died...meh, move on.
Ashley, on the other hand, has a shorter life and therefore her committments are more meaningful. This is not just my view, but one often made by authors who attempt to gauge how lifespans would affect perspective on interpersonal relations.

Try those arguments in real life and see how well they work, lol.

If that's your angle, your ME1 LI clearly considers the relationship over by the time of the conversation on Horizon. If they think that can be smoothed over with a cowardly email after the fact, that's their problem. Not Shepard's.screwoffreg wrote...

My point is that relationships are inherently emotional, not rational. From a strictly rational perspective, yes, they can be considered "over" for several reasons. From an emotional perspective, either in Shepard's view OR the other persons, there will still be a remnant of feeling there and, as crazy as it sounds, some expectation. Bear in mind for plot purposes (DRAMA!!!) there will probably be conversations around "Wow, I thought I meant something to you" or "I would have waited...jerk!!!".

ok next time my ship is shot down by one larger then it housed by genetically engineered ancient civilization and die....then get brought back to life by a top secret project from a terrorist organization.....then have my GF kick me away after I finally see them again...so I move on to someone else.....so that when my (now EX) GF comes back saying she accepts that I lived comes back to me while I'm with my new girl I'll keep that in mind...see if it works.
in other words..I get what yer sayin...but...there is a loophole that CAN be used with this...and as soon as you show me someone that's come back to life from a terrorist organization you can THEN throw in "real life" thinking.

Hey, I am not disagreeing. Just don't complain when Ashley/Liara walks into your Quarters to find your new LI sleeping in the bed or folding your clothes for you. About to be some damn furniture moving around that room if you catch my drift.
