This isn't much of a high priority question, but I'm curious, so I thought I'd go ahead and ask!

I know that in Dragon Age: Origins, different writers were responsible for specific characters they wrote the majority of. I believe the same thing can be said of specific scenes/sections of the game, as well.

So!

When it comes to Awakening, which writers were responsible for which characters and scenes?

I ask this so I know where I send my praise this time around, haha. You guys sure are getting slammed with insults -- not that you aren't used to it at this point -- and I feel like at the very least, compliments for the writing are deserved. (/suckup)

I'm curious about all of them, not just my personal favorites, buuut of course there's a number of characters I adore in Awakening (Justice, Nathaniel, Anders and the Architect), as well as scenes (Blackmarsh especially, and... well anything with the Architect). It would be nice to put a name with a face, so to speak!

Thanks!

Oh yes so true! I loved Anders. It kinda made me wonder, since his aproval was at "love", no romances? Well he sure did hit on me.

And the Architect. I am SO SAD that he didn't appear more. But i am SO GLAD i didn't have to kill him. He is rather silly, doing a *SPOILER* darkspawn joining.

Who wrote what? Let me see...

I wrote Anders, Nathaniel and Justice. Blackmarsh was also me, as was the final area (or part of it, anyhow -- it went through some pretty heavy changes).

Sheryl wrote Oghren, Sigrun and Velanna. Kal'Hirol and Wending Wood were hers, as was the lead-up to the finale in Amaranthine.

Ferret wrote everything that went on in Vigil's Keep.

There are probably other things I'm forgetting.

You are my hero for writing Anders. Seriously. The boy opened his mouth, and I fell in love.

You have to admit he is better than Alistair. Posted Image

If this is how I feel about Alistair: Posted Image

Hahaha, thanks.  It was a spur of the moment weekend thing to do with leftover cookie dough. :-P  Its kind of embarrassing its made its way around now.  The girls and I made more stuff here, if you want to see.  They're all way better than my cookies!

To go back on subject....I'm assuming you wrote Ser Pounce-a-lot too, David?  Because I did that for 10 or 15 minutes straight the first night I had the game....

Yes, Ser Pounce-a-lot is my doing -- though Sheryl named him. I couldn't think of anything.

"Sheryl, what should I name Anders' cat?"
"Anders has a cat?"
"Yeah."
*thinks* "Ser Pounce-a-lot!"
"You're kidding."
"Well... you asked me."
*thinks* "Fine. But I'm blaming you."

Thanks Ms. Inconsiderate, for spoiling the end of the game for me...

Ser Pounce-a-lot: (Meow!)

I really have to say you did a good job with Nathaniel. My opinion of him was pretty bad based on his intro from the comic, I changed my mind completely after talking to him.

Oh, another one. Is Ferret responsible for the ferret I killed last night in the inn? That was....interesting. :-P

Nathaniel was a triumph. I liked Anders' and Oghren's wacky antics, but none of them could trump Nathaniel's killer deadpan wit.

I'm still at the beginning, but Anders and Nathaniel are great, especially Anders' dry wit. I just got the kitten... but I'm a cat-lover and I want to keep it! :D

... so, basically, you wrote all of my favorite things in the game. Why am I not surprised at all? Haha. Thank you for taking the time to answer!

I need to compliment you on Nathaniel especially -- he was a big surprise, but a good one. The advertisements and comic kinda made him out to be a giant douchebag, and I was happy when it turned out he's actually a nice dude. I really like him!

Though Justice is my absolute favorite character in the expansion, TBH. I was excited about him when the trailer hit, and he was even more awesome in-game. Very well written character, so kudos to you, sir!

I'm really curious about the heavy changes you mentioned, though. I noticed there was quite a change between what you wrote in The Calling, and what was in the game. That's been bugging me a lot, actually. I'm a huge lore fanatic, so I was going nuts through that whole end sequence, LOL. Out of curiosity, did they ask you to change things that much, or was it your choice? Or both?

I haven't gotten far enough to get Justice yet, but Nate is a very well written character. Props to you David.

Although it really hints the creators of DA were expecting you to be a human noble in Origins. Ha!

I know most people will think Anders is a bit like your Alistair due to the "woe is me" act, but I have a feeling he's more like what you wanted Jowan to be if he was ever turned into a companion(who also has a "woe is me" act).
I'm really glad you get to invoke the Rite of Conscription on him.
He even has a lot of unique lines if you're of mage origin!
Anyways, I just wanted to say: thank you for giving me Jowan 2.0

Haha, I knew you wrote Anders and Nathaniel Mr. Gaider, I so knew it!

Very nice job on those characters, I could feel your style in them.

Overall the writing part of the game was good so kudos to you all. My only problems were the pacing and how short it was (hang on, let me finish) for a story that could have easily been a full sequel, as a result everything just got really crammed together.

I want to hear this architect talk. His minion that talked at Vigil's keep was pretty cool. Over all great characters. I wish I could give an opinion on Nathanial but I hung him haha. Next game when I go through as a rogue.

Spoilers (possible) below

This, yes I agree wholeheartedly. My 'canon' PC is my battlemaiden, Valora (HNF DW Warrior) and I expected to utterly despise him but Nathaniel, Anders and Justice were the only three companions I did end up liking.

I wasn't happy to get such limited face time with Alistair but Anders was close enough in looks and sound and personality for me to be content to wait for another chapter in the story.  Nathaniel turned out to be an honorable young man despite his father.  Justice ...well Justice was a white knight despite he was in a dead man's body.

I haven't picked up the dwarf girl yet but I absolutely hate the Dalish ****.  My first instinct was just to deny her accompanying me but then I reloaded and brought her along anyway.  Haven't warmed up to her yet and don't know if I will.  With the new conversation system being so limited I doubt I will have time before the game is over to get more than lukewarm.

As for the lack of romance, at least I DID get to see Alistair which is a hell of a lot more than those who romanced Zevran or Leliana get.

Still mad I couldn't have my mabari with me.

I do not condone ferret killing of any sort. Mustelid solidarity. :)
