Yeah, it showed up in the epilogue for me, too. I donated money once, then saw the quest for the moonshine and ignored it as being a hoax. The epilogue talks a little about those behind it in that case, saying one of them founded a legitimate orphanage.

The epilogue is actually positive - whether you think the Blight Orphans are fake or not. I just didn't do one of the quests though.

If you're having trouble with Oghren's approval, it's a good idea to do the moonshine quest as it allows you to pick up another gift for him.

I don't know what the epilogue says, but I'm inclined to think that it's a hoax too. At first, I donated the money thinking it may be legitimate. Then, when I saw the next quests I thought it had to be a hoax and I decided not to pursue the quests anymore. However, after reading carefully through the quests' descriptions, it is pretty evident that the folk behind it where actually thinking of achieving something... well, if not good, at least not bad or malicious. Moreover, the quests often involved doing mischievous deeds to the Chantry, and this bodes well for my atheist, Libertarian mage who thinks the Chantry is basically a fanatical, fascist-like organization. And I must that he was pretty curious to see how far these "orphans" would go :)

Where is the brandy they want? The barkeep won't talk to me even though he has an arrow above his head. I take it I'm not going to be finishing the quest on this playthrough?

I didn't donate anything thinking it was a scam, and didn't do any of the quests associated with it, and still got a blurb about it in the epilogue, saying they felt guilty and opened a real orphanage after some patron helped them out.

I was thinking........ huh? I wonder who helped them??

It should be obvious after the first quest that these are not real orphans. Moonshine? Finest Brandy? No! Indeed, after awhile every time you go into the inn, you overhear conversation from the patrons about "milking thing" and results of the obvious pranks they get you to play.

SPOILER ALERT

If you persist with the quests. You do get a good epilogue. It mentions that one of the prankster is moved by your generosity and opens a real charity for the benefit of Blight Orphans. He also get's married to and has kids with Melissa, the women in front of whose house you leave the knife and scarecrow and for whom you are also asked to pick flowers.

The dwarf standing next to him sells the brandy. The other guy just gives you the key to Kristoff's room.

How do party members who aren't even with you know what you're up to? That bugged me, Justice was preachy from a distance.

I did all the quests I found (the last one was apologizing to Melisse) but I didn't get anything about them in the epilogue. Is that a bug or were you supposed to do something else?

I did all the quests except the gift for melisse, which pissed off some of my companions while making others happy. I knew that it was all fake but I did it anyways for no reason whatsoever. I was pleasantly surprised to find a happy ending during the epilogue.

SPOILER!!!!

Turns out that my generosity drove him to open a real orphanage and he marries melisse and even has a couple of kids with her. I thought that was worth a few disapproval from my friends and bit of itching for poor reverand mother.

I did it the first time to see if it had any meaning. Nothing. So now I ignore the orphans. Why waste the time on yet another DA:A scavenger hunt? At least with some there's a reward, but so many of the "find ten of these" quests in this game are boring. Trying to find the last piece of cloth is like trying to find the last baby crab in FATE.

There isn't any reason to go through to the end but donating fifty silvers and then accepting the moonshine quest gives you the 'dragon's ******' gift for Oghren so since his approval can be difficult to raise the +6 that will give you makes it worth it.
