Awakening PS3 Bugs

I don't know what it is, but this is just not working at all for me. I've tried every combination of actions I can think of to try to trigger this quest, and I've never gotten it. I'm on my third playthrough, if that makes any difference. I have tried not giving her anything, giving her stuff but not putting her through the joining, putting her through the joining and not giving her stuff, and putting her through the joining and giving her stuff. On my current playthrough, which I've become determined to do all of the possible quests I can, I have gotten her approval high, put her through the joining and spent time traveling between Amaranthine and Vigil's Keep (where the chances of triggering the encounter are said to be the best) in an attempt to trigger it. And, I kid you not, I have spent no less than 6 hours traveling trying to trigger the quest. Given that it's supposed to be a scripted encounter that triggers when the conditions are met (basically having Velanna in your party and at least one main quest done) that should say something about the problems this encounter has in occurring.
And since this is the PS3, I can't access a command console to force the encounter. Is there something I'm missing? Am I just incredibly unlucky? Someone please help me, or at least tell me that there's a fix on the way.

its been 3 minutes already
Disable your Internet connection. It is your game "talking" with the servers. If you play with internet disabled, it takes like 10 seconds.

* In the beginning during the assault on Vigil's keep, the door I'm supposed to take after pulling the lever glitches and I can't go through it. The darkspawn bash it open and destroy the barrier, but the door slams back shut and it does not appear as a door that can be opened. I had to go back around the way I came to get to the gate.
* My party members' arms will sometimes get locked in place. I can usually get them to reset by having them attack or un-equipping and re-equipping their weapons, but sometimes I have to reload an older save to before the glitch occurs.
* I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but accepting either the "Law and Order" or "Smuggler's Run" quests will cause Mischa, the character needed to trigger Sigrun's personal quest, to disappear/not spawn making so that Sigrun's quest is impossible.

The music occasionally does zone out, but it isn't much of a problem, I think it makes the scene seem much more ominous, and considering I only played through awakening once completely, I can still be surprised.
The codex entries are missing, probably 30-40% of mine from each section, though not a problem because I usually read codexes that seem important right away (in other words, not the "tattered shopping list" from Redcliffe General store).
Companions and PC as well get locked up joints, such as Anders looks like he is holding a staff when he puts it away and my PC looks like the Statue of liberty, though reloading or resetting the system has fixed this and hasn't occurred on the same file yet.
@ Viglin, yes, the respec book only registers up to 99 attributes, if you glitched your character with multiple talent or spell books, then that is your fault and you should think about the cost of respeccing if you did that.
@ FoggyEthan, that happened to me when I tried importing my character to complete my "ideal playthrough", I just turned off the system correctly and resarted and it cleared up.
Respeccing books are found in the radial menu, people, it really isn't that hard to look around the "usable items" section of the radial menu
@ the Original Poster, if you are referring to Nathaniel sayign something about "King Alistair", just remember he was in the Free Marches for 6 years and just returned, so he may not know Alistair was even a Warden or died.

Alright man, I had this problem as well, but I replayed my imported Warden and did the Wending woods before Kal'Hirol or the Marsh, but I put her through the joining before I went into the Silverite mines. Then I went and finished Kal'Hirol, when I finished it, I went to Amaranthine and by the coast I got her random event to trigger her exile, so I think it isn't even scripted, just totally random.Nidd wrote...

I never got her quest on my first playthrough even though she was a regular member of my party and I went into the mine immediately after recruiting her. Subsequent playthroughs I have gotten her as a companion but put her through the joining first and did not enter the mine. It has worked for me every single time after that. I don't know if that's a trigger or not but thought I'd mention it as the pp seems to indicate doing the same thing.

No, Sentinel armor looks really awesome, like Chevaliers or Kings armor, but jet black with red detail lines. The helm looks as it should, gives you an idea about what the rest looks like, and Vigilance is supposed to look like a curved blade, really wicked and unique looking, but a mixup of the codes might have made the developers accidentally cross part of the warden commander armor code with sentinel armor to make things simpler, but that shortcut probably changed the armor set completelyDrasmere wrote...
The High Dragon in the Dragonbone wastes doesn't drop the Blackblade Boots like it's stated in the strategy guide. Making it impossible to complete the armor set. As above the Sent. Armor(all besides helmet) and vigilance look like Warden Com. Armor and Starfang. Is this just being lazy and reusing the same art? I have most of the same problems listed above. I have the disc copy of Awakenings on PS3.

OK, this may or may not be pure luck, but here goes: when you exit to the map from the Silverite mines after escaping, you should notice that the Wending Woods is highlighted, though it won't let you travel there. However, if you just highlight the little Silverite Mines icon, then re-select the Woods, it will allow it. In two different playthroughs, doing this instantly triggered the encounter with Velanna's former clan (two playthroughs because I had to reimport and start over due to having armor/weapon stats from current equip, including fatigue, stuck permanently on my warden after a respec. Didn't notice until after I'd beaten the mines. Awesome bug, BTW. And by "awesome", I mean "annoying crap". Potentially useful, though, if you equip gear with no fatigue penalties that also gives stat bonuses ). I'm gonna load up my "Still in the Mines" save today and see if I can repeat this a few more times.

Her approval was maxed from the start (because I insisted on saving her sister), but I did Anders' personal quest, Sigrun's Quest, Nathaniels, and I activated the first set of chantry quests but didn't complete them until after Velanna was joined. I finished The Wending Woods and Kal'Hirol, but made Velanna a Warden first. I cleared the Vigil's Cellars and went through maybe a dozen - 2 dozen other random encounters including fen witch, several darkspawn ones, barbarians attacking, bandits, mercenaries, etc... I did the first couple of Blight Orphan quests, and I did the quests the "private" gives you such as a daughter ransomed and the one where you go to a farm and kill the darkspawn. The one out of the 3 "private" gives you that I hadn't done yet, but activated, was the one where you go to a stormy beach to get the salvaged goods. That's about all I can remember, but that is the gistNidd wrote...
Thanks for the advice for Velanna's quest. I have a couple of quick questions though: what quests did you complete before getting her event (not just main quests, but side quests as well) and what did you have her approval at? Does it matter how high it is? Thanks.

This is going to sound weird, but I kind of already tried that. Except that it would let me select the wending woods right from the start and travel there, and no dice with with the encounter. I'll try it again, as it could have been a one time thing but I'm really not sure that will work for me.
Are you playing the disc or as dlc?
Disc version. Unless they've surreptitiously patched the DLC version though, It shouldn't make a difference. In any case, I'd say just pretend you can't select the Wending Woods, highlight the mines, then select the Woods. After confirming this, I thought maybe it was just a badly scripted encounter that wasn't supposed to be random at all, but happen when you left the mines to any destination. Reason being, when you get the encounter, it looks like the outskirts of the Woods, and there are even burning trees. Plus, you know, the Dalish cruise about in forests and suchlike, and that's the only one around in Amaranthine. Now though, I'm thinking that the RNG they're using for encounters just sucks and by doing that sequence on the map you guarantee it hits a value in the right range. I'd say it might have something to do with the sequence of quests and such I'd done, or even stats, but since it happened on two different playthroughs with different things completed as well as different stats on my whole party, I highly doubt either is a factor. Even my skills and talents were somewhat different.

They really should have made it a better scripted encounter, more like the ones in the main Origins game. Those were actually predictable and not hard to trigger. I really wish this one was more like that.

Well I tried the Silverite Mines trick you suggested and it didn't work. I tried about 10 times, and I did manage to get two random encounters but neither were for her quest. I will try again on another file that I just started, but I'm not too hopeful. I don't know why, but I just seem to have the worst luck in the world when it comes to trying to trigger this darn thing.

Bit of a belated reply: yeah, I discovered this doesn't work consistently either. I ran into the stupid approval bug with Sigrun on that playthrough, so I reverted to the save just before I started that whole quest (which conveniently also had the Blight Orfans questline unfinished. Which, BTW, really does seem to be the source of trouble: no more bug with Valenna or Sigrun with Orfan quests still open. Not that I'd had trouble w/ Valenna, but I know some have. With those quests finished, though, anything that raised Sigrun's approval meant an instant 100. Preferred gifts, normal gifts, various conversations, reloading assorted saves: didn't matter what I tried) and went and grabbed Sigrun but didn't do the main quest there. I then took her through the mines instead of Nathaniel, finished, tried the trick....and no dice. Loaded up the save with Nate again: trick still worked. So, either party composition is affecting the RNG or initiating the Last Of The Legion quest alters what enounters one can, um, encounter. Possibly both.

Another glitch to report: when I returned from the Wending Wood to Vigil's keep, I was unable to start the conversations I needed to with any of the characters in the courtyard with quests related to the wood, namely Master Wade and Voldrik. Instead they just kept repeating the lines they have when they don't have a quest-related conversation with you. But I was unable to give Voldrik the granite or talk to Wade about the Heartwood, which was annoying. I loaded up a previous save, but I haven't returned to the Keep yet so I don't know if it's still a problem.
Had you returned to Vigil's before doing the Mines part? If so, then you need to finish the Mines first. Apparently, the game requires that quest to be complete before it'll allow those to trigger. If not then, um, congratulations: you've found another bug!

At Kal'Hirol Oghren just stops following you. I didn't notice until I looked at my map and only saw three dots. Went to find him and he was just standing in one of the tunnels facing the wall. Easily fixed though. Pretty sure you just have to select him and he moves around just fine. Too bad you couldn't leave him there...

I hate to say this...but that happens a lot almost everywhere you go, and it doesn't matter who your companions are. Sometimes they just stop following you, or do stupid things like run back and forth over a tiny area. About all you can do is backtrack to where they are or switch to them and move them manually.Oogrooq wrote...

It's not just Awakening either. I had multiple companions do the same thing at various points in Origins before Awakening ever came out. Another way to fix it is to hit L1+R1 and then move a couple steps, which will cause everyone to start moving. The lagging companion, if far enough away, will sometimes simply "teleport" your location.

I don't know if this is a bug or if it's the way the game is supposed to be, but it seems weird after Origins. I can't initiate dialog with any of my companions, EVER, whether we're "afield" or at the Keep. I activate them but I just get some lame pop-up dialog box like "Let's get moving."
The only time I can have a conversation with any of them is when I give one of them a "plot gift," when I interact with a "plot item" or when THEY initiate conversation when we enter the Keep.
It seems like a bug and considering all the other bugs I've encountered (most listed here already) I'm inclined to think it is.
I've got the disc version for PS3.
