2009-11-07 23:05:58 - DAOrigins
Avg: 17.405 - Min: 17 - Max: 18

thats my FPS
i got the graphics set to medium and everything but v-sync turned off.
if i set everything to low, or change my screen resolution the FPS is still exactly the same.

This is not normal on a computer with

2.4 quadcore amd phenom

4gigs ram

radeon 4870
(windows 7 64bit, i heard this might be part of it)

Why is nothing be said about this and why is it not being fixed?

ive tried all this.
no matter what i do, the settings i play with, my fps is always this low.

ive monitored my video card usage, ram usage and core usage and it goes no where near maxing, this has nothing to do with my computers or the game settings i use.

I would contact bioware support or ea. Seem like computer issue i had it with few games they would have low fps for no reason but i ened up getting help from company.

Could be your CPU too as this game's framerate is greatly affected by CPU unlike most other games.

ive played other games heavily dependent on CPU with no ill effects, at its max it uses 70% of my CPU.

Also, nothing wrong with AMD, i happen to be a AMD/ATI fanboy.

My Rig:

CPU: E8500

RAM: 4GB Dualchan

OS: W7 x64 Ultimate

GC: Radeon 4850 Toxic @Catalys 09.9

Average FPS is 40+. Quads are always bad for gaming purposes, but its more like the OP's Problem seems to be system related. Either your running to much "crap" in the background, or messed up your systemconfig. 4870 and W7 works fine with Dragon Age.

I read somewhere that DAO has issues with the Catalyst 9.9 drivers. They recommend downgrading to 9.7. But the 9.10 drivers are out already.

I started playing with the 9.10 drivers already installed and my framerates are good.

Btw, I only have a Radeon 4830 with an AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE on a Win7 32bit OS. Working fine so far.

But according to different game tests Dragon Age scales very well with multiple CPU cores.
I am running the game on  a Phenom II X3 720BE@3,5GHz with a Radeon 4870 under Win7 32bit
and discovered no problems so far.

do you have bad fps from the start or does it happen after a while? if it is after a while it is just the memory leak, just restart the game and it goes away.
