Okay, is there any way to save both Amaranthine and Vigil's Keep? Near the end of the game you get the choice to either stay at Amaranthine and save it from the darkspawn or return to Vigil's Keep to do the same thing for the Keep. So is it possible to stay at Amaranthine AND prevent the destruction of the Keep?

I don't think its possible to do both, its a clear one or the other choice.

Has anyone tried not sending your troops out for random farmers/defense and saving them all for the ending? I don't know if that will effect anything but otherwise the sending out soldiers thing seems kind of useless.

It's possible to save the city and have your companions survive the battle at the Keep, though the Keep itself has to be rebuilt. I haven't done this personally (I burned Amaranthine to the ground with no hesitation!), but it's been reported by several credible posters. It appears to be related to your companions' approval//whether you have done their personal quests, much like in Mass Effect 2, but there's some conflicting information out there. Sorry that I can't offer more specific advice; but there IS a "good" ending achievable.

I did every single quest I could before I got up to that point, and did all my companions quests and they all had a high approval of me. I saved Amaranthine, Vigils Keep took some damage, but all my companions lived in the abrupt ending.

Near the END!?!? Jesus ****ing christ, the game has been out for all of 2 ****ing days. Do you people just take off work/skip school and play the thing straight through the minute you get it?

It's 6 hours long if you don't listen to all VO and skip some side quests.

Indeed, the expansion felt very short, tho it is probably on par with throne of bhaal or any of the Neverwinter expansions.

I´ve been playing a couple of hours for the last 2 days and i´m at the part where i need to choose who stays at the keep and who goes to the city to defend it.

I've played through twice already. Both in 1 day. Probably about 10 hours on and off. It's an expansion, so I didn't expect it to be too long.

Make sure the keep is upgraded and then go defend the city and both will be fine.

The game is only several hours long, it can be finished in a single sitting if you skip some stuff. Maybe takes 10 hours to do EVERYTHING.

I want to savor this game. I'm so slow anyway. I'll probably take like 30 hours. My first playthrough of Origins took over 100.

I just beat it.  Only about 10 hours of game play listening to all the quests, doing all the side missions.

I ported my old character in /shrug.

@OP If you choose to save Amaranthine and you've upgraded Vigil with everything you could it will stand on it's own.  I took with me Val, Sig, and Nat and the only "non-survivor" was Justice (which is what I think he would have wanted.

If you turn your back on Amaranthine you really turn your back on it.  You don't get a chance to let that city stand on it's own.

That's not true. I got all of the upgrades, got the achievement and tried to run back to Vigil's Keep when Amarthine was saved, the map told me it was destroyed by darkspawn (as well as the Captain).

Same here.  About 115 hours on first playthrough of Origins, and I'm over 30 hours with basically the electric dragon and the choosing how we are going to defend to go (I've got a couple of side quests yet to do, if I can at this point - not so sure).

I've been a bit puzzled by those that are taking their time and clocking in at 20 hours.

Same situation here: I unlocked the achievement for doing all the upgrades on the keep (all the ore to Wade for equipping the troops, all the money, ore and guardsman to the dwarf to upgrade the walls etc) and so felt confident the keep would survive when I chose to stay and defend the city.

Yet when I'd finished the city quest and unlocked the saviour of aramanthine achievement and returned to the map, it showed Vigils' Keep as destroyed by darkspawn.

A bit annoying, as it renders moot whether or not you bother running around to do all the upgrading of the keep, equipping of your soldiers and the clearing out of the basement/deep road cellars. Why bother if the keep dies anyway when you choose the city?

It stayed up for me, but only two of my companions had bugged personal quests and coincidentally being the characters I like I took with me to save Amaranthine.. I'm not sure if Justice bugged (only ever ranked warm 100+, even did his quest the happy way for christ sake!) since he died as the victory horn sounded.

So it seems if your characters have their quests done, high rating and you've updated EVERYTHING in regards to the Keep your fine. I think your choice during the trials also matters, Alec becomes a hero and if you choose wrongly about the chick who sneaks away it probably also impacts on troop morale.

So upgrades are Silverite and veridium for wade, Granite, money and soldiers for the Dwarf mason.. anything else?

I took 20 hours to finish it. I don't see how you could have done 'EVERYTHING' :P

Chick who sneaks away? What are you referring to here?

Alright, this has been really bugging me, and actually made me put the game down and stop playing.

I've read on here and on the wiki that if you have all of the upgrades the keep can hold out on her own.

I have both merchants.  I chose to defend all 3.  I gave the dwarf money, men, and granite.  I gave the other dwarf all of his Lyrium sand.  I gave Wade the Veridium, Iron, and Silverite.

The only quest I have not completed in the game is Oghren's companion quest because the bastard won't talk to me about his kid.

I took Justice, Velanna, and Nathaniel with me so they wouldn't die at the keep, but it never fails, I ask "What is the situation like at Vigil's Keep" and it's always "Not good." and my codex says all of my party members and seneschal died at the Keep and it instantly drains my will to play further.

What have I done wrong?Posted Image

I chose to stay at Amaranthine. With me was Anders. Justice and Sigrun. I didn't do any of the personal quests because I somehow didn't get them to talk to me about them. I gave the dwarf the money, men and granite. I also closed the Deep Road entrance under the Keep. Somehow I managed not to get the whole "what to defend, land, trade of city"- quest at all, and in epilogue all my companions suvived the battle, except Velanna vanished. I don't know how I managed to do that. Now I'm playing it again and I'm doing more side quests.

Please post Awakening spoilers in the Awakening topic, thank you.
edit: Oh, just realized that my browser didn't show the full title of the main topic, nevermind then. I see now that it's origins and awakening topic now :)

OK. I'm just curious about this. I'm coming to this decision again & I'm curious.

If you decide to save Amaranthine, what happens at the Keep? Is there a battle scene, but it's like the gates of Denerim, where the battle is led by the people you left behind?

I thought if you left the Keep to fend for itself, all the chars. you left at the Keep just died. How do you determine who survives? Everyone whose personal quest is done and approval is high survives? Does the upgrading or non upgrading of the Keep affect survival?

It seems no matter what you do if you leave Justice at the Keep he dies ... guess I better take him to Amaranthine and not leave him behind.
