And I tell you if you can treat this with a sense of humor and mod your PC's face to look like a zombie, Alistair's cameo is epic and feels so right. Especially if you romanced him.

This is a new degree of awesome I had not tried before and am now going to restart a new play through. :o

I WAS kind of hoping for at least a KOTOR 2 style. "Who is the leader around here?" question.

Yes, Yes I know it's not a Bioware game but that doesn't mean you can't steal it.

So very simple, one line of dialogue, would have solved everyones problems.

Now, as to the back story as set by the Devs, yes. That is what the Dev team does. They create the story and the lore for the game. In the same way that in DAO we set your origin stories, we set the origin story for the Orlesian warden. While I understand you may dissagree and want "your" story choices for the Orlesian wardens origin, this is not the case. In the same way that you chould not choose the "what happened before" in your origins in DAO. This is the same for DAA. Again, if you want whoever to be king or queen, who lived or died, etc you can choose to import a save and continue that story.

I think the problem here is that there are two "choices" in question:

1. Do your choices in DAO affect the world in Awakening?
2. Did your character survive at the end of DAO?

If you answer "yes" to question 1, you HAVE to choose "yes" for question 2. There's no way to have 1 be "yes" and 2 be "no," and it's not immediately clear why that has to be the case. We don't understand why it's not feasible to take your warden's choices into account...the method for getting that information is already in the game. The only thing that would have to change is to have 1 more window after the "import/don't import" window that comes up if you choose to import a Sacrificed character that asks "keep warden/new warden". If a player wants to handwave, they can, but if they don't want to, they don't have to.

Why not just use the imported information wherever it's needed (since those possibilities are already in the game anyway), but have your character be Orlesian? It feels...arbitrary. If the dev team doesn't dictate your DAO choices for imported characters, why do they have to for the Orlesian Warden?

Chris, you're actually in here talking with us about this.

You're a saint.

It's not you that we're engraged at, it's whatever element of the dev team of your company decided that preventing us from being screwed over was not worth the 2 minutes to do something so incredibly simple that would alleviate our problem - IE, at the very least, choice for leader, or even apologize for this situation and say that they will patch it in "at some point in the future".

We're mad not just at the situation, but at the blatant contempt. You are actually here talking to us. You are not a source of contempt.

Thank you for actually posting.

Chris Priestly wrote...

I did not mean to imply that any
percent of players being unhappy was fine with me, I meant that you
could play it. You may personally choose to have probblems with the
story set or importing a dead character or whatever, and I am not
dismissing your concern, I am saying that you CAN play it. There are
people who do cannot as it is not released yet where they live. There
are people who cannot for whatever techinical issue that may have.

But still, let's say that there's an entire sequence where for some people, the sky turns neon orange for a while. Let's even say it's a small percentage, 8%, 10%. Heck maybe even 5%.

The game is still PLAYABLE, no? But obviously, it's a problem.

This is a heck of a lot more of a problem then that - because it determines *whether or not the game "fits with our story"*.

We bought into your franchise in the first place based on promises of persistent worlds, and actually fufilling such a promise and fixing this problem is so, SO simple. But still, here we are, with all signs pointing to Bioware just not giving a damn about us.

"If you don't care, we don't."

Well, we do care. So I assume that means you do as well, right.

Oh, so the first part of that sentence was just a cloak. It really should have just read

"We don't care".

The problem is that that thing you don't care about is EVERYTHING that we bought into your product about. All those panels about the promises of persistent worlds. THAT'S what you sold to us more than any one product, the promise of persistent worlds.

Again, if you want whoever to be king or queen, who lived
or died, etc you can choose to import a save and continue that story.

And again, for a lot of us, you CAN'T continue that story. You have to see that continuing that story was actually made impossible.

You CAN play it, you are choising not to. That is what I meant. If I were the mean and nasty fella everyone thinks, I would have changed the title of the thread to "WTH! Did BioWare really just make an expansion that I choose not to play for story reasons!", but that would have been wrong.

I feel like I'm arguing with someone holding a life-preserver about why it isn't fair for me to expect there to be a left over life-boat for me.

Just save me from drowning, please! Unless your claiming that everything is exactly as it should be right now, and certainly would not be improved by the obviously simple patching that would be involved in order to put things as they should have been in the first-place.

You have to see what the problem is. What you say sounds less like a justification as to why things SHOULD be this way, and more like an EXCUSE FOR THE DEVS.

I bought this expansion under the implication that it was an expansion FOR MY GAME. Not for a NEW GAME I could start up of Dragon Age, for MY GAME. That's the implicit thing you've been selling with these persistent world games, a persistent world! The implication being this is an expansion to that persistent world.

Now, maybe that's not entirely Bioware's fault. Maybe that's also our fault for assuming that they would be able to live up to their promises.

But honestly, at this point, I don't really care whose "fault" it is.

Just save me from drowning, please!

I think you're mistaking Dragon Age with Mass Effect. Mass Effect is the only franchise that was promsied to have full continuity. Dragon Age was never promised to be a persistent world.  In fact, with all the talk of how they can explore different time periods and places in the Dragon Age world with future games, chances are Dragon Age 2 won't have anything to do with your Warden and Ferelden.

PRECISELY.

That's all it would take!

Heck, and that's being generous. At this point I'll pay good money for a DLC that just says "New Game A", in the same vein as "New Game +". Only difference - It's actually an expansion for players who have didn't have Alistair as King!

Honestly, how hard would that be to add?!

We get the run-around like it was just something we did out of left field to make Anora Queen when it was BIOWARE THEMSELVES THAT PUT THAT OPTION IN FRONT OF US!

Arl Eamon *would* have a heart attack, Alistair. You are right.

Zombie Almighty Cousland saved Ferelden again.

*GASP* Awesome.

Better question is WHY would someone not boink Morrigan to save their own life? Yes, I refuse sex with hot women to kill myself all the time. I don't even see why they gave me the option to say no lol.  I guess I am the other 75%.

I was let down by this as well. But now I realize that ME2 is what raised my expectations for continuity between episodes for all Bioware games. I guess that was pretty silly of me, seeing that they were completely separate teams that just happened to work for the same company. If you really think about it, has any other game come close to having as many branching decisions carry over as ME1->ME2? But then again,it didn't take a lot to acknowledge your choices:. An e-mail here or there, a chance encounter with a minor character, or even just a sentence or two that varies in a dialog with a certain charater. They didn't need to add whole levels, just a few bits of dialog acknowledging what our martyred hero did.

While I feel your pain, I do have to say that the fix is not what you think it is.

Please don't hurt the kittens. They're wee and small and have very big, innocent eyes.

They didn't even need to go THAT far, they could have just WRITTEN OVER it.

"Here, the Leader of Ferelden has sent you a message",

or

Prompt: "Did you hear who the new leader or Ferelden is?!" ...

A. Oh yeah, some long lost prince

B. I wonder how Anora will do now

or

Specifically choose during character creation

or

Not bring up the leader of Ferelden at all!

I understand that, but ... *sigh*.

Is there at least like a PO Box you can give me to send a letter to or something?

I feel like I need to write one of those letters ...

"Hey, I bought your product that says it will make my skin it's regular tone again, but when I took it, it made it peach-colored. I'm a black man!"

Yes, this!!!

The devs here are lovely, but we're yelling here because this is the implicit place for us to talk about the product!

If the devs or mods don't actually carry back feedback, info, or reporting of problems, please let us know where we should be "yelling"!

I don't want the mods on this board to think they're unwelcomed. They're actually in thread talking with us! I love mods who do that.

If I am not to complain here, please tell me where I should. I'm just mad, angry, confused, and lost.

Direct mine wrath and scorn appropriately!

Because the child will contain the soul of the Archdemon you are tasked with killing. The potential consequences could be catastrophic. Unless you are playing an "evil" Warden, the only reason to agree to the offer is being a weak-willed moronic horndog.

I need to ask this though.

Since it's not what I think it is, what is "the fix"?

So there is a fix?!?

HALLELULIAH or however you spell that, I'm not actually a believer in supernatural miracles and so-forth. However, Bioware technical miracles I do have a glimmer of hope for with this tease.

Please, please tell us! I will protect those big eyed-kittens.

Just tell us it will be okay! :(

I'm not either, but I think it has a "J".

Regardless, I don't think it's going to get mistaken for any other word.

I don't know if there actually is a "fix" though. Despite the bioware mods here being as very cool as they are (they are actually talking with us about this), I don't know if anyone is cool enough to pull off that. That would take a power of 20 Mega-Fonzies.

Pffft Morrigan seems like a good mother to be.
