WTH! Did Bioware really just make an expansion that ~25% can't play!

But seriously guys, if you care this much about the game I assume you have multiple playthroughs. right?

Uh, no.

I care about this game enough that I have a cannon. I actually care about what happened when I played the game, I don't go and play it a different way.

A cannon directed straight towards Bioware's office, I imagine? ;)

I apologize for previous comment. I was a bit agititated, and came off way over-the-top.

I think I am just upset because I see a lot of what is happening with the Dragon Age title, indicative of EAs business model of putting quantity over quality. Every business has budget and time and constraints, and has to make compromises. But a software company can choose to focus their resources on a smaller number of titles of a higher caliber, OR numerous, low-cost titles produced quickly. EA tends to choose the latter. Usually they back a couple of flagship titles (in Bioware's case Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age) initially, then pump out a plethora of low production value expansions, DLCs and disappointing sequels that milk off the reputation of the flagships. The resources to put Awakenings through more testing, and make it more fully integrated with Origins were certainly there, but will instead be shifted to the next set of DLCs and the next expansion.

I think people are expecting too much from DA. It is a linear story game which allows some deviation but all ultimately going in the same direction.

The Orlesian warden is based on the "standard" story set, like ME2 has for new characters, I imagine. Although be nice if there was a quiz thing, like in ME2, to give us the option of designing what "changed" world our new warden was coming into. I mean, that's the big deal about Bioware games these days isn't it? Superfluous choices.

Glad I read this thread BEFORE I bought the expansion. I am a player who has put Anora on the throne and made the US. My girlfriend who is about to finish the game will probably end with those same choices. Shame on us for playing as the good guys (respecting Alistair's wish to not be king and not wanting anyone else to die to end the blight, which in all honesty seems the only ending that would make sense canonically for what BioWare's story writers portray the Gray Wardens to be despite how YOU choose to play yours).

In the end though it's no problem for us to just not play the expansion. We would have no interest in playing a game that is supposed to expand the content of what we have already experienced but ultimately fails to do so. If BioWare doesn't mind losing a sale, we certainly don't mind not giving them money.

I do feel for those of you that purchased the expansion before knowing this was the case. If nothing else at least know that you helped someone else to make an informed decision. And shame on BioWare for not finding someway to explicitly state that this could be a problem. Seriously, a simple "Not all data may transfer" warning on the product with a link to the official website where a company issued statement could explain the problem (spoilers be damned) would not have been too hard.

all of this was known. i don't understand. the only way your choices carry over is by importing your save. if you don't import, the devs need to create a story.

I don't. It's not as if it hasn't been discussed over and over and over in these forums, as well as listed in the FAQ.

You mean like a FAQ (dragonage.bioware.com/awakening/faq/)?

Is that the same faq that says we'd get the latest patch?

I'm not too upset with the US thing. When they say that they don't mind "waving off the story if you don't" I think that means that if you are willing to use your dead warden, then they are willing to let you, and obviously if you are willing to import that character, you are not too concerned about the story. It would have been nice if there was an option to continue the story from your dead warden with the Orlesian, but not too big a deal to me. I figure if I want to import a particular character that did the US, I will load a previous save and let Alistair/Loghain do the deed. It's not like there are too many references to your Origins story anyway, other than the ruler of Ferelden.

The issue seems to be with people believing that something promised for ME2 would be carried over to DA - a promise I've not seen made by the DA team.

I've never played ME or ME2  so there goes that theory. :P

And from reading responses I see that..STILL people don't get the point of the original debate over the US ending.

Is that because they are skimming and not reading?   Probably..because most times they declare...well you can't play your dead warden....um....duh?

But yes you can, Bioware stated you can...."get out of jail free card".     To hell with roleplaying...rofl.

All we wanted is some sort of small news that would colour the world for the new Orlesian warden..."our" warden by the way, because thats where alot of us saw the connection.   Former a dead hero, information carries forward...New Orlesian warden takes over from the dead hero.

I really don't see what is wrong with that picture, its absolutely a more logical way to do things then all of a sudden going  WHOOP...la la la I didn't die after all..I was only fooollllllinng .../rolleyes.   LOL

By the way..I am explaining this...thats all..no angst...over and done with old news, but I would at least like to keep the story straight on what happened..instead of the nonsense I see being assumed............okay? ^^

All we need is for someone to say BioWare should be arrested. We've already had people say that people should be fired, their kids killed (I'm not kidding), and for them to go to Hell.

And again..things get blown out of proportion by folks who can't see whats being talked about..can't understand whats being talked about..because they are refusing to do so.

Instead..its MUCH more fun to exaggerate and ridicule...isn't it?

Imagine if they cut importing your warden completely?  I think some of these people would create a mob with pitch forks and torches infront of bioware's doors.  haha.  I understand that some people have some strong opinions to share but personally I have been really enjoying Awkening so far.

It's not you that we're engraged at, it's whatever element of the dev team of your company decided that preventing us from being screwed over was not worth the 2 minutes to do something so incredibly simple that would alleviate our problem

While I feel your pain, I do have to say that the fix is not what you think it is.

Please don't hurt the kittens. They're wee and small and have very big, innocent eyes.

I'll also add to the claims that decisions (and possibly gear) should have been made importable while keeping your Warden dead. It's unpleasant that you can't have a warden stay dead and make his decisions matter.

You can't..you have to have either..the disk for Origins ..or Origins installed ..to play Awakening, otherwise I think you aren't able to port your old character over into the new expansion.
