Then again, I was always taught to refuse to fight until there really was no other choice, but if/when that choice is made, take no prisinors, don't hold back anything, and leave your opponent(s) incapable of ever coming againt you again.

A fan of Machiavelli, eh?

Pretty much.  There's far worse philosophies to follow.

I really wish there was a way to play a canny, cagey and utilitarian, but generally merciful and friendly Shepard in ME 1/2.  Sadly, we're stuck with either  "Righteous Paladin" or "Sociopathic Douchebag."

TOPIC:  More Femshep love** plz.

Lies this thread is about how Bachuck hates femshep because she isn't real and only manshep is real because he like totally is real+++

right?

*Also I have some background in marketing.  Our objective is to get out the word of the product, gauge customer reaction and ultimately make money for the company, nothing more.  It isn't our (or should I say were) jobs to tell a company what to do regarding a product, only to advise them regarding market and consumer trends.  I'd never say "Hey, Shepard has to be a man, because thats what the poster says!"  It would be more like "This poster looks like Mass Effect, you've got the PC other characters and the logo, lets see how well it goes over"

Yes, we need more Liara love for FemShep, I don't even have the Paramour achievement in ME2 because I am always loyal to Liara. (I have never even done the other romances in either games).

FemShep is defintiely a great, strong female character. (I just love Jennifer Hale's voice as well, but that is me).
We definitely need to see more of her in some sort of official promos, it would be great to see her somewhere completely noticable on the cover art of ME3.

Let me explain something to you - if a person uses the term "African American", it probably means they're talking about black people from AMERICA. Not about anyone from the UK, Jamaica or anywhere else that isn't AMERICA. Have you ever heard a black person born and raised outside of the USA refer to themselves as African American? I haven't, so when I said African Americans in my earlier post, that's precisely the specific group of black people I was referring to.

I clearly misread something you wrote. I'm sorry for that.

There's a whole article on TvTropes about this, can't remember if it's Eagleland Osmosis or not.  But Americans tend to be silly about terminology.  (Well, not me, I refer to my co-workers and friends the term applies to as 'black' on the very rare occasions it's relevant to the discussion.  Funny, no one's offended by it.  Though your mileage may vary.)

I believe it said ... this was in reference to Harry Potter fanfics .. that as an example, Dean Thomas and Blaise Zabini would likely call themselves Black British if anything.

I return you to your regularly scheduled discussion on gender and videogame characters.

Funny story: I used to be Catholic -- went through the whole process, voluntarily, at nineteen. Six years later, after Israel's little romp in Lebanon (to put it mildly), I found myself utterly sick of -- well, let's just say religion finally lost its appeal.

So yeah, my FemSheps are probably atheist... ;)B)

Then that female gamer was stupid, because through the power of the internet, any gamer can find out whatever they want about any game. The info is at right at your fingertips.

You've just undermined the entire industry of marketing with this statement.

Let me burst yours since you obviously know nothing about how the real
world works.

No one in the real world gives a damn about your
femsheps

Hm...this...feels like the real world...I'm assuming the other posters in this thread are also of the real world as well.  Could always be spambots though.

Of course, that leaves Bioware, but we know they care about femShep as well, otherwise they would not have made the effort to 1) create femShep in the first place and 2) keep Shepard's gender neutral in the official comics/books.

Bioware have consistently promoted Shepard as being male. If a
film company puts up millions of dollars to finance a film, they're
going to want the adventures of a recognizable Shepard and they're not
going to give a damn about your feelings either.

In the movie adaptation of the video game Hitman, Agent 47 was born, not created.  Neither the gamers nor the creators would accept that storyline over that of the original Hitman series.  Agent 47 was also a clone, but was not portrayed as such in the movie.  A movie will not change canon Hitman.

And let's not forget about the fictional character of 'Alice' from the Resident Evil movies who does not even exist in the video games.

In addition, it is a contradiction by saying simultaneously that a company puts up millions of dollars and "they're not going to give a damn about your feelings."  If a company puts up millions, that's exactly what they're going to care about to ensure that their money is not wasted.

It was horrible, was it not?  Ugh.  And, I don't know if you ever watched the old (back in 2000) television show of Dark Angel (pretty much what made Jessica Alba famous), but the 2007 Hitman movie actually used a scene directly from its pilot episode--where the children are all in the schoolyard doing drills.  The character that is supposed to be Agent 47 is actually the young version of Jessica's character.  Pretty pathetic.

Video game movies are usually fail though, so *shrugs*

Outburst excused :P

Bite your tongue, sir/madam.

As if making a Mass Effect movie isn't bad enough, having that guy in charge would be a grievous insult.

Personally I like them both.  There are some lines that Jennifer Hale says that make me cringe. Like when she's telling Jacob she wants to talk to him.  And there are some lines that Mike Meer says that seem too stoic for me.  But on the whole I think they both do a good job.  I liked her version of the pep talk to the Krogan scout and I liked his attempt to console Tali when they find her father.

Play wise I do prefer playing Female Shepard because when I was a kid I wanted to be Annie Oakley, Judy Bolton, Emma Peel, Captain Kathryn Janeway and of course Princess Leia Organa who could shoot and fight with the best of them.  Family gave me a pretty brush and mirror for Christmas and I wanted the six shooter my boy cousins got.  Comander Shepard just carries on this ffantasy of mine.  :D

Janeway's psychotic.

Which would be fun, but it's not the plot that she's a psycho.. she just is.

Not as pants on head crazy as Captain Archer though... what is it about the recent Star Treks anyway, all the captains are nuts.

You have to be crazy in order to go around space for so long finding absolutely nothing then get randomly attacked. Then in the Enterprise plot have to deal with random bits of time traveling people and yourself getting punted forward in time just because someone could do it to you.

Would also explain Picard's fussy disposition.

One of my favorite Picard episodes is the one where Q takes him back in time to show him that all talk and no Kirk like behavior makes for a boring life.

Anyway, I've been running a female paladin in various games since Baldur's Gate, so typically my first play through in any RPG is a female running the good route.  Fem shep here.  And I do like the strong female characters, given my little sister a lot of books with strong female leads, like the Honor Harrington series.

But I also like maleshep.  But the male shep is good for a more renegade Shep for sure.  No using the standard Shep look though.  No, mine is based more on Lemmy from Motorhead.  Got to have that beard to be an appropriate bad ass.  Voice fits well with that.

Episode was "Tapestry". Here is a 10 minute plot synopsis that is very entertaining. I recommend watching it, as it was a great episode and the synopsis is under 10 minutes.
