honestly, for future da games, i'd like some more believable characters in terms of that hey have their own goals why they are actually helping me (which might be contradictory to mine) - for example a character that claims to help me against the darkspawn but only helps me because he wants to achieve something for himself that might even become a problem for me, that would make characters more believalbe then - oooh i've known you for 5 minutes, but i don't have anything better to do so im gonna join you and die even if i don't gain anything from it...
Like Velanna? Or Morrigan? Both of them have their own reasons to follow you. Also, Justice has his own reasons - beating the ever living **** out of whoever killed Kristoff.
But why would someone need a reason besides ridding Thedas of it's greatest threat? Thats both a noble and important reason.
On topic:
****? Well i don't know about that. Morrigan gets quite nice over time if you treat her with respect and show her that everyone in this world isn't after killing an apostate. She has from birth(or however Flemeth created her...) learned that as an apostate she'll be hated and hunted wherever she goes. Which is partly true.
Velanna just want's her sister back and is a Dalish at the same time - as Morrigan she has little reason to like humans. It's her instinct to be angry as **** so people thinks she'll ****ing murder them for not helping her. A tactic i use every time i'm hungry and can approve of.
But if i had to call one of them the biggest "****" it would be Morrigan, Velanna's anger may be a little handicap.
Morrigan is both human and beautiful, she's cunning and extremely smart. Might be there's much more to Velanna, but we get to learn Morrigan twice as good as Velanna.

Morrigan has a far more complex, elaborated and ultimately, interesting personality. I mean, she never looses his sardonic sense of humour, she never ceases to be a strong woman; yet... you realize that you are making her whole world crumble down (even more if you romance her!) and on time, though she never tells it clearly, she gets to love, respect and take care of your character.

However, I like Velanna 10x more than I like Morrigan. I'm holding a grudge against Morrigan for as long as I live.
Her dark ritual is lame. As a female gamer who loves disney happy endings, poo to Morrigan! I hope my character eventually gets the chance to kill her and her god baby. Then my warden will dance to a jig while singing:
Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.

I'd say Velanna because at least you can scrog Morrigan.
Same personality imo
Edit : for Morrigan haters, just don't kill Flenneth and Morrigan will die by her hand

Aww.....that's too bad, but what's crap to one person is a treasure to another. So you all can love Morrigan and I can hold my grudge against her.

Velanna was my favorite char in Awakenings because of her slight resemblance to Morrigan but I don't find her nearly as cool or interesting. Morrigan is a brilliant pragmatist but Velanna is a fanatic and a zealot who is eaten away by hatred and only cares about finding her own sister which she seems willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to accomplish . Actually the fact that Velanna was my favorite companion speaks more to my dislike of all the other companions in the expansion (not sure about the female dwarf,, didn't use her much.) but the others were all douchebags for different reasons.
If only we could have used Shale in the expansion. She's another favorite of mine.
