What are some good Sega Saturn games?  Preferably first-person shooter or survival horror games.

Survival Horror... on Saturn... hmm...
The closest I can think of to that is Enemy Zero, but that has quite a bit more puzzles and less action than say, Resident Evil. I don't think I've played any good first person shooters on Saturn. That just wasn't the console's strength.

It's horror trying to survive it with your sanity intact. >.<

You know, I just realized the OP asked for other good Saturn games too. A question to you then, OP. Which games do you already own, if any?

Wasnt Castlevania released on the Sega Saturn? Of course I know it is also available and much easier to aquire on Xbox live but the version on Xbox live is a port of the Playstation version and doesnt come with the bonuses that came with the Sega Saturn version.

Also I know it isnt a survival horror but it is still a damn good game, best Castlevania in the series, although the series did lose a bit of its greatness when it made the jump to 3D. Hopefully now that Kojima has his hand in it the upcomming Castlevania game "Lords of Shadow" will be worthy of the Castlevania name.

Ugh... Kojima is working on a Castlevania game? Consider me skeptical. I think he ran Metal Gear into the ground by turning it into a melodramatic convoluted mess. I don't want to see that happen to Castlevania. I do agree Castlevania has taken as a nose dive on consoles. However, the handheld versions are much closer to the older games and way better than their flashy polygonal counterparts.

But yes, Akumajo Dracula: Nocturne in the Moonlight was released on Saturn. Unfortunately it's Japan only, and not the easiest game to find these days. It's pretty much the PS1 version except without true transparency effects, and being able to play as Maria Renard; except she has no story mode, making her like Richter. There are two new areas and two bonus tracks to go along with them. (Hooray for Bloody Tears!) The areas are short as heck though. I can breeze through them so fast that they're over after I blink. Lastly, there is some artwork on the disc accessed by checking its contents on a PC. All text and dialogue is in japanese. The voice work is leaps and bounds better than the laughable english voice over, but the language barrier may be a problem for the OP.

Yes, you established that awhile ago. In my opinion MGS was on a steady downhill slide with each successive game being worse than the last. I can accept MGS2&3 were decent games with a few flawed elements and plot choices. MGS4 was ridiculous though, and I don't know anyone in my circle of friends at least that feels differently. My best friend in particular is a huge fan of the series and enjoyed the previous three games greatly, but thought MG4 was almost complete garbage.

In my opinion, the plot was convoluted and ridiculous to the point that I'd have trouble taking it seriously as anime, let alone a game plot I'm supposed to find believable. At least I think Kojima wanted me to take it seriously, because the dialogue and characterization is so heavy handed and melodramatic. Some of the antagonists were so over-the-top they were camp for anyone that's read their fair share of manga. Then there's the gameplay, which is at its core nothing particularly new or exciting. Hideo Kojima needs to reinvent the wheel to catch my interest at this point. Kind of like how Capcom reinvented Resident Evil's gameplay with RE4.

Also, Crazy Taxi rocked... but that was Dreamcast, not Saturn.

The MGS series has always been a tongue-in-cheek tale of how Japanese people see Western movies/games. It is supposed to be campy, with that epic B-Movie feel. I found each game better than the last! Except that god awful camo system in 3. Posted Image

Proof? Because to hear Kojima or his diehard fans talk about it, it's supposed to be the second coming. The gaming equivalent of cinematic mastery, essentially. It's clear the man wants to be a filmmaker. Not just based on some of his own words, but the overbearing emphasis he puts on melodrama and flashy cut scenes that only worsen in each successive game. It never struck me as tongue-in-cheek aside from a few corny gameplay conventions that were throwbacks from original games in the series. Such as the ever popular cardboard box hiding thing. :P

Edit: You know what? Nevermind. This isn't worth debating. Let's just say I hate what's become of the series and leave it there. At this rate I'm going to end up burying this thread in MGS babble. I had enough of that at 1up. Plus it's late and I don't want to stay awake for this. :P

The man is using western archetypes, always references western wars (1 and 2 were the Cold War (not during the Cold War, no, but the whole "East v. West" conflict was CLEARLY there), 3 was Vietnam, 4 was Afghanistan/Iraq), fills his cast with crazy white people, and admits that almost all his influences come from western films. The evidence is there. You just have to look. Posted Image

That doesn't match up with what he himself has said in interviews, however. I'm aware of that, and it's partly true, but I don't think his goals are exactly what you believe them to be. In any case... ~Points to edited in bit from previous post~ ...I'm in no mood to drag this out. Moreso with all the googling I'll have to do to make my point. :P

Naw. I hate debating. I suck at it, for one. I tend to get carried away and emotionally invested. In the past it's caused me more trouble than its worth. I can already feel myself slipping here. Even if I wasn't drowsy, I'd stop at this point. It's discourteous to the OP and will almost certainly end with me looking like a fool, even if I did prove my point. I'll pass.

It's one thing to share ideas but when it starts to get into a contest of who's right and who's wrong, that's where I step out.

MSG4 hurt my brain and had way to many moments of controller on floor while I sat there watching cool scenes instead of playing them xD
