Nice! Lessa and F'lar definitely fall into that category. K'vin and Zulaya too, just finished reading that one last night for the second time. Took them a while to get there, but in the end...

Which one is that from?  I haven't read all of the Dragonriders of Pern books, not by a long shot.

YAY! Congratulations!

I can't remember the name of the Pern book atm... it's about the 2nd Thread-fall, though.
I would love to see someone put together a Pern game but I'm afraid it would be impossible to please everyone with it.

That would be a terrible idea. I think they should only use good books.

There is a Pern video game for the Dreamcast. I'm afraid it is pretty much rubbish. Image IPB
There was also a boardgame made a long time ago. Never played it.
Supposedly a movie is in the works too.

 Yeah that's the thing; there are so many books, and they have a decent fantasy following; it would be difficult for them to make something that would measure up. Some things should just stay as books, I suppose. Now, if only we could get INTO books and experience them.... :P

The video game didn't stay true enough to the mythology for me to be completely happy but I was willing to overlook that. The main problem was the clunky game play and absolutely the worst load times. You were able to collect fire lizards which was cool.  It is hard when you have read a series so many times and have it visualized so completely in your mind, to see it in a game or movie is never going to be the same.
I want to impress my own dragon, or at least a fire lizard. Image IPB

This. I would love to be like Menolly and impress 9 fire lizards if I can't have a full on dragon, haha. If I find any, I'll let you know. ^_^

I'm really off to bed now. Good morning/evening/night all.

@Doug: Again, congrats. Now you gotta get some good gaming in before you start the job.

@Bri: I'll take Old Uncle off her hands. Poor little blue guy.

I loved Menolly. Y'all are making me want to reread the Pern novels.

Anyone else find other dragons sorely visually lacking after Whelan's?

I'm afraid I've not seen those dragons, so I can't really comment, heh. About the first dragons I ever saw was on a 1980's film, 'Flight of Dragons', heh - not a bad movie :D

Any pictures of these ones you mention?

True, but Whelan's interpretation of Pern's dragons were absolutely beautiful.
