Manual of Focus Bug?

The Dragon Age Wiki says that they can be used an unlimited number of times on any given character... however, when I tried to respec my character again, it would not work.
Sadly, this is really frustrating to me... I wanted to try out many different combinations of classes, but with this not working I can't without saving/quitting/etc.
Anyone else have this issue?

Haven't experienced that (yet), but there appears to be another bug that may need some serious work to get around. It appears to me that when you respec, you lose all your fade and/or companion bonuses you picked up in the original campaign. I added it up, and respeccing loses 16 attribute points for me.
OMG, is this what happened? I was trying to figure out what went wrong with my manual of focus usage. My first playthrough I seem to remember being able to use the book on a companion. I just started a new game and not only don't the books work on the companions, but I seem to feel like I lost points or something in the translation. It was niggling at the back of my mind because I couldn't really pinpoint what the problem was (since I didn't remembe my exact stats) but it would all make sense if the fade points have been lost.
That sucks!

I took a character into Awakening, stripped him clean and removed all items. Then I wrote down the exact attribute stats. The first thing that caught my eye were some of the attributes weren't listed in green (if you picked up all the points from in the fade, all the stats would be green). I then used the respec book and put in the attribute points exactly as they were with the imported character, and I also took points given from specializations into account. They do fit. But as I said, the points weren't imported at all.
Argh.. this expansion has way too many bugs

If you have extras, sell them back to Herren, THEN buy a new one to use (otherwise, yes, it renders the new one unusable as well). It works - I just had to do this to respec a character. It costs a lot of money - I had bought 2 extra manuals (6 gold each) which were rendered useless. They were sold back for just over 1 gold each. Then had to buy 1 more to respec Oghren. So, in total, it cost me 14 gold to spec Oghren!!!

Just in case anyone's reading... If you leave the area, then come back, the manuals don't work. Better to buy them, use them instantly, then leave.

I found a slightly quicker work around for this. Put the manual in the quickslot (the icon should be grayed out) of whichever character you want to respec. Go to the a merchant (in my case, I used Herren), and place a manual in the "sell" section, but don't sell it. Remove the manual from the "sell" section back into your inventory and the quickslot should now recognize it.
I dont really know what the problem is, but I think it has to do with the game not recognizing how many of the manuals you truly have (I had six when i first encountered the problem), since in the quickslot will always say you have 1. Thats just my thought. Hope that helps.
