Yah the Zevran letter seemed spot on to me....if you didn't romance him then you probably never saw that other side of him...

This.  Drives me crazy when people say "I never romanced him but he wouldn't do 'x' with a romance partner."

Edit: Romance him and see.  He's incredibly devoted.

Hey! Some of us were slow to get on the Zevran bus. Sheesh! :D

Awww, I don't mean everyone HAS to romance him.  But people who haven't shouldn't say how he would act in a romance.  I know *I* was shocked at his total devotion!

Edit: And, if you've ridden that bus, you know that it's better late than never!

An imaginary letter from Alistair the Warden to his love, explaining his absence from Awakening.

Love,

It seems my propensity to avoid tedious administrative responsibilities has failed me at last. The First Commander requests my presence at Weisshaupt. He still questions how both of us managed to avoid being obliterated by the Archdemon and demands a report in person. Good times ahead! I shall have to think of something spectacularly stupid to say to appease him. It will be a stretch, even for me. Where is Wynne and her advice when you need them?

What this means, of course, is that I cannot join you at Vigil's Keep for some time. But I will rush to your side as soon as I am able. After all, I wouldn't want to miss out on all the darkspawn-killing fun...

Do be careful, my dear. No getting hurt, no caboodling and no potentially apocalyptic pacts with vile fiends in my absence!

I will miss you every minute of every day. And every second of every night.

I remain ever your devoted lampost.

Alistair

So it would seem that Awakening is just one bad dream.

That makes an alarming amount of sense. :o

This is very similar to what happened with ME2. People were upset that the LI didn't do anything in that game

It's worse than ME2, at least your LI appeared there (even if they were semi-understandably jerks or so obsessed they barely seemed to care about you)...

Not sure why these letters weren't implemented, seems like it'd be simple as hell to do. More evidence of Awakening being rushed, I suppose.

That's what I think as well. Maybe the romance mentions was just a last minute effort to fit into the game. It was probably too late when they realized that people care about romance(evident by the riot after they released the FAQ). That would explain the "lost" letters and the glitch with Morrigan's romance.

You know, that's interesting.  I wonder if after the reaction to the FAQ they were all like, "Ooooh crap!" and started writing the letters but just ran out of time before putting them in.  That would explain no letter from Grey Warden Alistair.

Edit: Unfortunately, the DA:A files are encrypted so the modders may not be able to put them in.

Perhaps a modder might find a way to newly create and implement some letters. It wouldn't matter to me, my PCs are done with the ending of DA:O. Three are the Teyrna of Gwaren with their consort Zevran, two are rebuilding the GWs with him, and both are quite content to be Zevran's betrothed/wife (and perhaps even try to become mommies). The last one, who is in progress will also end up permanently with Zevran, she's certainly heading in that direction.

Seeing how devoted, loyal, and loving he ends up with the Warden, there's no way that he would let her go off alone to face such a great danger. Especially after vowing that he'd be there to prevent her untimely death (Yes, he vows that, and it's even a codex entry).

Maybe it wasn't exactly like this, but I'm pretty sure that before they published the FAQ they didn't think people cared THAT MUCH about the old romances. I hope they get the message now.
