Leliana and Zevran both said they'd keep traveling with me, but alas, they're gone with no explanation. And most importantly....
WHERE IS MY DOG?

Your dog broke a leg, so you had to put it down.
Leliana broke a leg, so you had to put her down.
Zevran broke a leg, and then when you tried to put him down he tried to stab you in the back. Apparently, his leg wasn't broken, so you just killed him.
Hope that answers your question

Yeah, I have these things called "injury kits." They heal broken bones.
And what's with all the near death people you find in the last DLC and DA:A? I mean Christ, I have Super Mega Potent Healing Potions PLUS magic. This shouldn't be an issue.

Ok then:
Zevran met a good looking farmer in his travels with you and had to leave you to elope with him.
Leliana fell into a ditch. You don't know if she is alive or not.
Sten stole dog from you, and took him back to his homeland.

Still not buying it. That could have at least said it in game. :0
Also, just noticed that I posted this in the wrong forum.

I agree. It was quite lame how they did it.
A simple explanation at the start would have be nice.
It should have just taken note of what happened to the characters in your ending, and given you an explanation based on that.
Leliana and dog were to follow me on my travels. So why not say she was staying home to take care of something? Or off investigating some clues to... something, and you sent dog with her to keep her safe?
Or hell, maybe she's knocked up, and you've left dog behind to guard her.
Alistair could be off getting some final Templar training to improve his skills.
Zevran could be investigating leads with the Crows. Maybe there was some threat against someone, and he's off to see why.
Sten would have left for home, so tell us so.
Shale left with Wynne in my game, so that's easily explained too. They're off looking for a way to restore Shale.

I agree there should have been some explanation at the begining, but at least (for you main LI anyway) there is mention in the epilogue (or so I have heard it said in another thread here).
As for the dog, that is a good question. Maybe someone with a leftover hambone bought his allegiance?

An easy explanation they'd have offered us via simple text dialog in the very beginning (did we romance someone in DA:O.) and would be a GREAT way to get people excited for DA2:
Lelianna: She & the Warden settled down in (insert location here) as she was with child, but at least his/her faithful mabari warhound was guarding her in his absence.
Morrigan: Taking a break from searching for her, the Warden ventures off to Vigil Keep, swearing to resume his search after these events are settled.
Alistair: The Warden tells her King that the duty of the Warden must come first, but once the current events are settled, she'll return to her king.
Zevran: ..........really....Zevran? Ummm....After bearing Zevran's child, the elf disappeared back to Antiva, avoiding the calling of a stationary lifestyle. The Warden swears to track down the rogue and make him pay for his abandonment, but only after the current events have been settled.
Things along those lines would work GREAT. It gives us the ability to say "Oh, that's what happened to them. Cool." Also, it speaks of a child being born for our Wardens (unless you're a Warden on Warden action with Alistair romance. Can't help you there.) and could set up a bit of established history for DA2, thus letting us look forward to it.

Truly. Both Alistair and Zevran, in my playthrough, had epilogues that said they stuck with me. To have them absent with little to no explanation doesn't sit right with me. What part of "never leaves her side" do they not understand? The letter from Alistair could have been less vague, and I can't believe they *cut* the letter from Zevran out of the game. If it was all for a good cause, they could at least hint at that instead of letting us think it's because of carelessness or corner-cutting.

My PC married Alistair but Zev said he would stay at the castle to help but they never mentioned him it would been nice if he would of been with Alistair in the begining since he was helping us. Lelianna went into the deep roads so it would of been nice to run into her while picking up Sigrun or maybe even run into her when you meet the architect maybe she could be tainted like Utha.

The Awakenings expansion is a side-trip for the Warden alone. Your companions and Morrigan will be picked up in the sequel - Dragon Age2.

Letters, yes. You get one from your romance partner, or barring that one from someone with a high approval rating. They don't even have to be all that specific. Would've helped avoid breaking immersion.

Irregardless, the whole companion cameos and old warden import struck me as weak marketing gimmicks that really shouldn't have been. It should have used the standard default Orlesian warden and other NPCs instead of old comrades. That way they didn't undo everything someone did in their original game.

And WYNNE. Just ran into her. She doesn't even mention anything about Shale!

It's particularly strange since at the end of one of my playthroughs says that Zev stayed with my warden to help rebuild the Grey Wardens. Shouldn't he have been with her in the beginning?. Or maybe he went on ahead before all hell broke loose and then went recruit hunting and the dog went with. As for my human noble, her royal hubby's doin' what kings do and the dog and Zev (told Zev he was welcome to stay in Dennerim ) are keeping him out of trouble.

as i recall, Dog was absent or atleast it wouldn't let me "talk" to him, Leliana went traveling, Wynne & shale went to the TI capital to see about making her a drawf agian, Sten returned home,Ogren become the 1st drawven commander of the army & Zevren became the new leader of the crows on my favorite play through. I assuming dog died during the last battle but I need to have a LONG talk with Zev about my sword!
