First off, im pretty sure most of this has been mentioned, but i havnt been on the forums for a few months. also feel free to add your own or discuss let downs, things that didnt make sense, or out of place things.
i had tramendous amounts of fun playing through the expansion. I also thoroughly enjoyed playing through the original game again, in order to make the "perfect" character/story to import over in the week before awakenings release.
However there are a few things that I found mildly upsetting/a let down:
in the first game, i talked to zevran and he agreed to continue traveling with me. from what i understand there is another post about some letters he wrote that got cut from the game, that explained why he wasnt there. i was really hoping that characters like him or leliana etc would be "optional" companions in the expansion based on how you played the first game.
Mhairi, whats that all about? i get the whole adding realism of how not everyone makes it and all that, but really. why even mention her, or give her an "approval bar" if shes not going to be around long enough to make a difference. If you hadnt made a trailer for her, and made a customized little page for her, i definitely would have said "oh well just like jory and that other guy in the first game". some might argue it was an attempt at "creating an emotional bond" wich yeah i see that, but after 15 minutes of gameplay its more like the game dantes inferno, very overhyped and given waaay to much credit for being awesome, when infact it was a piddly little "meh" of gameplay.
the "architect/mother" conflict was great, seemed a little rushed though, and alot of it doesnt make much sense. whos utha? appearantly theres a book about this that explains a little better, but shouldnt the game do that? lol.
many of the huge defining moment type things from the first game dont seem to have carried over, nor mattered.
one small thing i noticed, i never got a chance to make sigrun go through the joining, because i went to her place last out of the other three, and so when i got back to the keep, the only option was, to war!
a few items seemed to not exist, others i ended up with doubles of. alverds lost sword, i have two, the sweet black leather set, im missing two pieces of it. and the plate armor set you get while in blackmarsh, looks exactly like the wardens keep gear, but with a sweet completely not matching black helm. after watching justices trailer, the helm matches the black armor hes wearing, so im assuming they made a whoops and gave it the wrong skin?
the orphans thing, while i found it entertaining that it was such an obvious scam, i finished the quest line in hopes of confronting the guys responsible who were literally right behind me talking about how they pulled one over on whoevers giving them the freebies. but alas no such luck, appearantly the warden commander is very oblivious and kind hearted.
holding court, when i saw this i was like, yes sweet its going to be like bg2 and ill come back randomly and have various cases awaiting me. instead its a one time deal thats over very quickly.
almost nothing in the game seemed to have a real follow up, or add to the main story in any real way, half of the game was just fluff/filler quests that end with no real conclusion, just experience points.
well that was entirely way longer than i had originally planned lol. i left and came back, and new things had come to mind.
a few things i found dissapointing, what were yours?

it felt like those unfinished game.
great potential...yet it was not done properly. the story....was interesting but it also felt incomplete.
the main quest was disappointing.... because all of it felt rushed.

the expansion was fun and all but ya, bioware really messed the the world of the game here. I mean sure i understand most of the party members going their own way... but DOG ... i mean come on thats pushing it. Also the whole limited converstion time with your pary members was really dissapointing. Plus i know it's been said and explained but i want my DLC BACK!!!! i dont care if the weapons and armor are better, i want my blood dragon armor @#!$!. All that being said i did like how they ended the game, it was a nice twist, but they really handy caped themselves for DA 2. Over all it was a desent expansion, but I EXPECTED MORE from bioware. and if there only excuse is that they were rushed, then dont rush it next time

true, i feel like this expansion was really really rushed through, because the fans were getting antsy and wanted "moar dragonage nom nom" so to speak.
im pretty sure most people would have been happier with a few decent sized dlcs, while they finished and fine tuned this game. because honostly, when you follow up a great game, with something kinda average, it feels more like its mediocre because of how great the first was.

I agree with it being rushed. I honestly feel like I could have waited 1 or 3 years for an epic, complete storyline than have this piece of **** a few months after DA:o was released.
EDIT: and I would have liked to seen my companions (who survived) have a more open-ended ending in the epilogue as I was hoping it was possible to see them in a later expansion. Nathaniel and Sigrun were really starting to grow on me

Mhairi's death on second thought isn't so surprising... 5 new companions, 1 old. She was a 6th.

Being completely unable to talk to my companions except at pre-defined points(Oghren's cask, painting of nathaniel's mother, etc).

yeah i can see that, but what my first thought was, oh maybe she died in the joining because im a warrior, so if i play as a rogue, one of the rogues will die, or something so your not over poppulated with one class ya know. but that was just me being really creative while trying to figure it out lol, that would have been awesome if they did that, then you could play through it three times and get a "fresh" look at it because you have a different companion each time.
i just think they shouldnt have even mentioned her on the website if she was going to die like in the very beginning, just like jory and daveth in the first game, they didnt really talk about them at all, so i expected them to die lol. if she didnt have a trailer, and wasnt on the website before launch, i would have been absolutely okay with her kicking.

this was upsetting, it reminded me of zaeed in mass effect 2, although he atleast told fun stories.Deuterium_Dawn wrote...

on a side note, zaeeds voice actor was great, they should use him more, like they do all their other voice actors.

ya i agree if they are going to do something at least do it right. dont half a#@ a character just for the sake of having them there. It just lowers the the whole game and makes it feel...... well almost boring

The lack of conversation was appalling to me, due to how short the game was. I was able to get almost all of my companions to 90+ (got Sigrun too late for that) so I got to see different epilogue endings the second time around, but honestly, it just seemed like a lack of flexibility. I wanted to talk to Justice more about the human realm and how our mortality and morality works, chat with Anders about the mages tower (because I think Irving was a tool too, dammit), let Velenna know that she's not exactly the first Dalish elf I've ever run into, etc. It just irked me.
