We know of two successes from Cerberus' efforts:
- Resurrecting Shepard
- Creating and staffing the Normandy SR2
Cerberus also was largely responsible for the creation of the Normandy SR1.
We don't know for certain what was gained or not gained by their other experiments. The rachni experiment failed, fair enough. However you only fail if you try, and you if aren't willing to try you'll never succeed.
What Cerberus did manage was to create two very powerful biotics, even if they lost control of both for a time. They also were successful in infiltrating and attacking the Migrant Fleet. Shame they were done in by a traitor and two misguided Alliance personnel.
You also greatly underplay the significance of bringing back Shepard. Cerberus is one of the few organizations that recongizes the Reaper threat and is willing to do something about. Without Cerberus' aid Shepard could not have stopped the Collectors.

The only problem I have with TIM is
that he appears to think we humans are superior to every other species,
and therefore deserve to rule over them. Doubt I'd mind his methods at
all if he were more accepting of other sapient species.
It
is not about humanity ruling them, it is about humanity striving to
achieve the very pinnacle of power so as not to be ruled or influenced
by anyone else.

Anyway.
From my perspective, the Shepard I'm using as 'Canon' has a very... complicated relationship with Cerberus and the Illusive Man in particular- which is exactly as it should be.
I want to feel conflicted. I want to struggle with the moral decisions I make in this game. I much prefer a world of gray-and-gray morality, rather than clear delineations of 'good' and 'bad'.
Add to that the fact that this guy is absolutely everything I love in an antagonist: he's charming, driven, intelligent, manipulative and actually competent. I went into the game expecting -determined, in fact- to hate him; instead, TIM wound up as my favorite character.
...
Besides, what can I say? I never could resist a man in a three-piece suit.

OP's Topic o' The Day (Patent Pending): Do you think T.I.M. will kill himself off before Mass Effect 3 with all the smoking? (=P)
God...I hope not. I mean maybe if he'd cut back on smoking before every sentence he'd have more of chance of not dieing before ME3. Although I'd rather he not die at all...

@Terraneaux: Fair enough. I suppose deprotaganizing goes a lot farther here, but having a hard time putting thoughts into words. Herding to a certain ending maybe, predictable outcome given the choices? Something like that. I suppose at the end of the day it's still a game with a set out "plot" and set characters so there's not as much "Free Will" as one would expect in an RPG such as this. (If I am understanding you correctly, if not I apologise and may have read the statement wrong.)
@Zulu_DFA: That's a good question. I'd want to say Red Apple, but that's the Tarantino fan in me. Also, going to put a link to your thread in the original post. Interesting theory you have going.
@huntrrz: Hey, at least that gives your Shepard a goal. Fantastic!
@The Angry One: As much as I like T.I.M. as a character, the opposing comments make me laugh. (Awesome sig.
@Vamp44: No worries, glad to see you back
@LookingGlass93: I almost wish Bioware would spotlight the aliens a bit more, as I'm sure they have their own little agendas to account for (to make a twist.) Right or wrong, seems like human nature without the morality. (Even then, morality is conditioned.)
@Elnino135: Very well put.
@Asheer_Khan: I'll miss him *sniffles*. THEN who will everyone hate? Guess it's back to Udina.
@Ashwraith: Heya Ash! Good to see you here. Well, even if people don't feel conflicted, at least it gives them someone to despise, and that's always something. Hear hear on the suits.

@Vamp44: No worries, glad to see you back. Of course, you're more than welcome to... co-host (?) the thread. 'Tis why I added your name up there in the credits. Also, I'd laugh so hard if there was a report next game saying there was a "local" man who died from an old habit. Amazed they haven't switched to something else that far into the future. He's just classic like that I guess.
Ah yes, I'll do that. I'll send you things I can find on him via PM and you can edit them into the original post.
And if that was a news report then I'd laugh...then probably feel disheartened since my favorite mysterious smoking guy with cybernetic eyes just died.

Aww, that sounded so... forlorn. Then the heat is back on Udina, wah wah wah.
His eyes are awesome. However, was wondering about indoctrination (i.e. Saren's eyes.) There was a thread somewhere about that claim, but damned if I remember where it went. Too late PST to think about possibilities, even for a good laugh.

My guess was that he burned his real eyes staring at those there suns for so long. Then he got cybernetic replacements. And yea I saw that one thread.

Its not necromancing if you have something to add. Better to bump an old thread than make a new one about the exact same thing.

Bumped. For the sole reason that there are new people on the forums who may not have known about it.

Is it terrible that I would absolutely love that? >.>
Seriously. Bear with me here.
Paragon Shep.... I can't see as ever being interested, but... factor in Renegade Shep, and things become very, very intriguing. Blame my love of contrast, if you like.
For one thing, here are two characters whose strengths and weaknesses offset each other perfectly. There was a half-serious theory submitted a while back that TIM represented max paragon (blue eyes) while Renegade Shep represented... well, max Renegade (red eyes). This is actually plausible, if you bend the way those traits are viewed.
Instead of 'good' and 'evil', try viewing Paragon as 'Manipulation' (they usually try to negotiate/charm their way out fo a problem) and Renegade as 'Direct Action' (they just shoot/intimidate their way out).
Another way to look at it would be to percieve the two as Politics versus Military Strength.
Now, a relationship between FemShep and TIM would certainly not be a simple or even a pleasant matter (and to be honest, I have a very hard time seeing it end well), but it has the potential to be very interesting if played as a subtle power struggle between the two.
(Psychological warfare, you say? Why yes, please, I'll have one to go.)
Mind you, I'm 99% certain it will never be implemented.
(That did not stop me from kindasorta drawing fanart along those lines oh god I hate myself. >.> )

LI... not sure what to say on that one. Damned if you do, damned if you don't? BUT, given his personality (etc., etc.) I certainly wouldn't mind it. I'll add it as a link to topics for those interested in continuing that specific thread.
@Ash: I've seen some crazier things out there. (Mind you I like Kaidan as well, but you should see some of the things the Kaidan party comes up with. XP)
@ Tooney: Cute idea.

@Vamp44: Ha, I like the sun theory even more. Gave me a good laugh. Eyes probably are some sort of cybernetic appendage (?) (wonder why they always have that blue-ish glow.) Indoctrinated T.I.M. would make for a good story in itself, though.
^^. Hmm it would. Like for example if you decided to give him the base he could use that to assist the Reapers in some way.

TIM is the kind of character you love to hate. And whether you like him or not, he gets more done then the Alliance.

@Landline: Is that so?
@Vamp: Something like that. Reapers = More: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_goo. T.I.M.my = Mini-Terminator. (I wish I could be serious, but... I can't. *evil laugh* I'll leave that to another time or other people. I'll come up with a well thought, hypothetical indoctrination post someday.
@LFG: Good to see you here. Thanks for the post. Yes, yes he does.
@Jean: I hope they do something along those lines. (It was mentioned in the CE Art Book "charming billionaire," anyway. I don't see "true evil" fitting that bill. I still stand by my earlier human nature comment.)
