I don't have anything against him. I'm fine to work with Cerberus; as long as I get to shoot crap. I also kept the collector base. I'll work for him until he asks me to do something I don't like, however, TIM has never done so.
Not sure about using the phrase "Illusive" which denically means "decitful douche." Was it meant to be "Elusive" (Sneaky)? Is he really, in the words of LordMandalore, A walking Typo?

I agree. TIM is an underrated character who needs to be appreciated more.

Only Anderson so strongly supports Shepard throughout either ME1 or ME2, but as much as I love Anderson, I'll have TIM leading the attack on the Reapers any day because I know he's got what it takes to bring them down.

@Anthedon: Nice picture. Appreciate the contribution.
@dega666xx: I suppose Shepard didn't HAVE to go in there. Could have sent in his/her own lacky or something.
@DOYOURLABS: Time to have a better application process.
@Blze001: A furniture phobia? Interesting...
@Just_mike: Nice work on the propa... er, promotional material. Digging it.
@Cerberus Operative Ashley Williams: Anderson? I thought he was a bit of a bugger at the beginning of Mass Effect 2. Though, I can understand where he's coming from after hearing about Shepard and Cerberus. And, if I smoked, I'm sure the same would apply.

I'm not hopeful. The last book characterized him as a cardboard villain. I think the game presents him much more interesting.Lambda Faction wrote...
Anyone looking forward to the book release this month? Curious as to how they characterized T.I.M. this time around. Backstory too, hopefully. Might bring about more of a discussion.

Definitely looking forward to it... so much so that I set up a ME: Retribution group. Feel free to join if interested... I hope to do some cool things with the group as we get closer to release.

It all depends on how his being pissed is written. At the end of Ascension, TIM was pissed, but it was badly written, so that he appeared as someone who loses control of his own emotions and ends up like your standard teeth-gnashing villain. Whatever you think of his methods, I think TIM is very controlled and intelligent - what Karpyshyn wrote there was not at all convincing. I fear it will go on the same way and ruin him as an interesting character.FieryPhoenix7 wrote...

In the game he doesn't come across as a villain to me, but he is the top guy who apparently leads Cerberus (an organization which you fought quite a fair bit in ME1). I think of him as a very pragmatic sort of person, if ruthless, especially come the end of the game regarding the Collector base.
First playthrough (default new Shepard, no importing from ME1) I gave him the base. It makes sense to examine the technology Shepard will have to fight against, and knowledge is power. His argument for keeping it makes sense, but goodness knows what he might use it for post-Reaper threat. Galactic domination? It makes me wonder how Cerberus will keep going back and forth to it as well as it isn't exactly convenient, and it's possible there are other Collector ships out there as well. Unless there was only ever the one (the Reapers or Collectors couldn't afford it...). Hm....
Also gave him the benefit of the doubt regarding Cerberus. Given the way the organization is set up, it's also possible, I think, to rationalize away the events in ME1 by thinking those particular cells all went rogue.
As for those eyes....I don't know. For some reason the look and feel reminded me of husks. Odd that.
Oh, and this is complete rubbish I know but at one point during the game I thought he was the Shadow Broker. (Yeah, I know...) It's just odd that given his contacts that he thinks (I think he says it at some point) that Liara is working for the Shadow Broker and isn't to be trusted. For such a man with his connections I find it hard to believe that he thought that.

As for the book, well, kind of disappointed on his characterization specifically.(Perhaps being a mystery and somewhat living up to his "name" in game gave a different perspective of what one of the co-writers had in mind?) He came off as naive, childish and brash to me... something along those lines. Well, in fun, at least we know he likes to drink "home-grown" whiskey and brandy (if I recall correctly.)
@Obaka: A nice assessment, and welcome to the thread. There are a few (from what I gathered around the 'net) that felt the same way about T.I.M. possibly being connected to the Shadow Broker before other things emerged.

(I had asked if it was a real brand, and this was the picture response.)
The cigarettes are from South America, but they didn't name a specific brand... so I guess you guys can keep guessing.
I haven't finished reading Retribution yet, but it's interesting so far. It actually said that what Shepard found at the Collector base had "shaken the Illusive Man to his core." Also, TIM is apparently using book/movie quotes that I've never heard of, and it won't tell me what they're from. xD

Oh, I can help you there. He's quoting Mark Twain. :3
Namely, "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
I do agree about the discrepency between book-TIM and game-TIM. It annoys me how Drew Karpashyn seems determined to railroad him into a hand-wringing, shortsighted antagonist. He shot his own organization in the foot (and almost got himself killed), just because he couldn't resist wringing his hands and gloating over someone who pissed him off.
That seems rather... dissonant... when compared with the Magnificent Bastard chessmaster Bioware set him up as.
...On the other hand, I got to see him wield an assault rifle. (In text form, sure, but still.) C:

Dammit Kai Leng, I wanted to rescue the Illusive Man. ಥ_ಥ
