My main issue with Awakening was the fact it feels so detached from DA:O the story itself wasn't bad and the areas to explore and battles were decent enough but they cut out a ton of great characters to make room for new ones that we barely had any time to be interested in. You also had a huge lack of dialogue with them which didn't really help the case of throwing new characters in. If they wanted to minimalise dialogue why not just keep the original cast? The only one that they did leave in was the most one dimensional character from the first game Ogrehn...The dog couldn't make it in there but they found room for the boring Dwarf character and repeated the exact same boring jokes from the first game....He smells bad...He likes to drink....Dirty minded...Ha ha hilarious >.> The humour related to him seems written by a four year old.

They also already included a Dwarf character in the game so why they couldn't leave Ogrhen out and throw the dog in there i don't know. It would have been at least more entertaining.

That plus lack of any appearence or word of almost all the characters made Awakening feel like a sequal more than an expansion. Alistair was the only other original to appear and it was just for a one minute cameo. If they included the original party members and had more interaction (a party camp would have been nice) i would have been more impressed with it.

After playing it once i have very little desire to play through again maybe just for more achievements but theres not much else to play it again for.

In addition the reason given in Witch Hunt for Dog's absence, I feel there were likely political reasons to leave him in Denerim, though since this is a no spoiler forum, I can't go into them. As for the other companions, with all the variations in the DAO Epilogue, it wouldn't make sense for them to appear.

I don't know if it is good or bad, I just know that it is riddled with bugs and 40 Euros (PS3)...no thanks.

All I know right now is that it was cheaper to buy Dragon Age and Awakening together for the Mac than to buy Awakening on its own for the PS3...

Still, DA:O does look very pretty on my iMac:)

It wasn't an EPIC FAIL.

But my idea of an "expansion" and Bioware's take on Awakening's was different. I expected an expansion of the current game, with the same characters instead I got completely new characters. Which is fine, but then I realized I couldn't talk to them like I could my original characters.

Also, I felt like there was *way* more action than the original. Sometimes I got sick of the action and wanted just to do some shopping or talk to people, but there was very little of that to be had.

What I did like were the few logic puzzles thrown in. That made my day.

What helped was the mod where you can insert your love interest in Awakenings at Vigil's Keep. :)

Do we even know whether or not Bioware is fixing to correct their mistakes in the Sentinel Armor and Vigilance visual bugs? Let's also not forget the chances to drop for the Blackblade armor. Unless these are fixed, I consider Awakening an epic fail indeed.

It really depends on what your looking for in the game. If you play because your really into character interaction and seeing your descisions matter, than yea, this game pretty much blows sticky donkey dick. If you just wanna kill some darkspawn and get some treaure than it was pretty good.

Personally I thought it was garbage and I feel utterly cheated out of my money. I loathed the new talk system, the idea that I have to click on a whell barrow in order to talk to one of my companions was so mind bogglingly stupid I wnated to rip my hair out. Plus the continuinity was shot to hell. My Character was Queen of Fereldan so why on eath she was running around doind the guards jobs for them while they hung out at the gate I couldn't fathom.

Origins was this shining gem that fell from the heavens, I've played it over and over and I still love it...and this..this Awakening is like somone smeared bear **** inside my xbox and told me to play it.

Yeah, Awakening was a really bad game. I'm willing to give DA2 a chance based on the strength of DA:O but it won't be a first day purchase anymore.

Haha very eloquent term of endearment towards how you feel of Awakening. I agree however, that it needs to be patched BIG TIME! Others will look forward to DA2, but quite frankly that isn't good enough for me. I WANT to play an Awakening story without having to "just deal with it" when it comes to not being able to wear my Sentinel Armor and Vigilance.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if these damn visual bugs happen in Awakening only? Or if they also leak into GOA and WH?

Finished Awakening, overall a decent expansion. But definitely can feel the influence of EA rushing Bioware to get the game released. A few aspects of the game were not polished and felt rushed, such as the vendors in Amaranthine market area did not have voice-over greeting and animation. Also, not enough dialogue with companions. And the epilogue did not have any voice work, just reading.

The extreme glitch / bug for the Silverite Mine was inexcusable and should have been fixed with the latest update.

The expansions Hordes of the Underdark for Neverwinter Nights, Mask of the Betrayer for NWN 2 and Throne of Bhaal for Baldur's Gate II were far superior to this expansion. I know it is a business, but darn EA, quit rushing the creative process.

Not an epic fail, but rushed. Dragon Age Origins with Respec Mod and JBTextures I would give 95 or so rating and Awakening I would rate about 78 or so. Also, so far I have enjoyed the DLC for Origins more than I enjoyed Awakening.

well I killed Oghren in my Dragon age playthrough and Wynne left my party after I destroyed the urn - yet here they were in awakenings nonetheless -

Payed 15 pounds for Awakening and, apart from some bugs, feel very satisfied with price/entertainment ratio.

The way Im seeing it is of all the DLCs, Awakening is the best one. That is the only way I can feel good about playing it and not regretting spending 40$.

Awakening was pretty good, got it on sale for 26 so I didn't pay full but I did support BW by buying it straight up. Anywho, other than being unable to complete a couple quests (Velana's never appeared no matter how much she loved me, and Anders would start babbling like an idiot in front of that door that was unopenable) otherwise it was pretty cool. Best parts were the new companions ala Justice (who doesn't love Zombes?), Anders (A LEGEND! Dayum!), Howe (Noble Rogues gotta stick together), and Velana (mmm, Grey Delisle makes everything better).

I think I may enjoy Awakenings more than the original campaign, but it probably has something to do with actually managing the land, the keep, and the effects those have in the epilogue.

Awakening... hmmm?!

I kinda enjoyed my playthrough, but did not got the urge to start a second one... like I did with Origins. Also I used Orlesian warden, probably my second of this DLC will be with an imported warden just to see the difference... although I'm kinda discouraged by everyone here saying that playing with an imported one sucks.

What really bugged me was the lack of conversation with the companions, and getting to know them better... not having the option to start a conversation when you want. And not having romance, but on the other side... there was no one worth romancing, Velanna was a major ugly bi*ch and did they had to use the same hair as Morrigan??? ...lazy Bioware, lazy!! ...and not too keen on the dwarven women, Sigrun.

Anders was good but he way too much reminded of Alistair. Justice was painful to look at, Oghren was his old self, no changes... and I killed Howe, so can't really comment on the guy, but it's really difficult to justify to forgive him and take him with you... he basically says he's going to kill you when you least expect! I suppose he will come to his senses later in the game, but as I like to play the game there's no room for forgiveness.

There are too much illogical and stupid situations but I'm getting kinda tired of typing... so I'll just leave it at Awakening is an average DLC, rushed as you can simply see it only by playing... and not having much replay value, definitely not as Origins... but they're not the same, Origins is a full game... this is only DLC... maybe we expected too much.

Best advice for first timers is to not expect Origins 2. Cheers!

Awakening... One bug I never see mentioned is that the Kal'Hirol plate armor does not show up on female elves at all -- in the portrait you get the banana yellow "do not use" graphic and an invisible body in game. It's completely unfinished.

Continuity is lacking. The epilogue slides didn't always make a whole lot of sense and in some instances contradicted each other.

The interactions felt forced. There were times where the only decent answer was calling a companion a good friend, but I didn't feel I knew them at ALL so it felt very forced and stilted.

The combat was very easy and the gear godly. Unnecessarily so. Combat balance didn't really seem to be taken into consideration. I would almost bet that at least one MMO player was designing some of this stuff as it reminded me of that mindset -- better gear = more fun. To me, better balanced combat = more fun.

The characters that were there were good. Just not enough was done with them. There was too much story, yet not enough information given to make any type of decision. Some choices that should have been critical were reduced to a coin toss because I hadn't read the calling, and there just wasn't the information given in game.

Epic fail? Hmmmmm, not really. It was geared towards a different audience I think than Origins was. There was a lot more fighting, a LOT more gore (which is interesting as DA:O was pretty bloody), much less character development. See, lack of character development in itself is not a deal breaker for me (I LOVE FO:3 for instance), but coming from a game that was all about character interaction, it was a letdown as it was so completely different.

I am really disappointed with Awakenings due to the many bugs. I cannot finish most of my quests. I'm not going to spoil, but the very first quest was bugged and I continued on with the game to find that every quest I encountered were having issues, especially with the turn in items and the NPCs requesting them. I installed all the patches available and started the game over and still find the same bugs. I looked online for player made fixes but haven't been successful. I would love to play the rest of this game, but having major bugs and having to restart is a time dump. If anyone knows any way to fix the quest bugs, I would appreciate it. The game looks to be good. I loved Origins.

Bugs? I have seen no serious bugs whatsoever in the version I play (Mac). Certainly no visual bugs such as armour not showing up.  The only thing that I find inconvenient is not being able to trade-skill with a party member other than me whilst in the throne room.

I actually like Awakening, but not as much as DAO. Still, I'm on my second play through and I plan on doing at least two more with different toons.

I'm currently playing Awakening and based on all the criticism I'd heard, I was afraid I was not going to like it but in fact I think it's really great! Sure, it doesn't have the depth of choice you had in Origins but it does do other interesting things. I really like how the environments are a bit more open and explorable and I love the whole keep thing. Also, the story and the new characters are much stronger than I had expected based on what I'd read on these forums. So personally I would recommend it very much.
