Haven't finished the game yet (to be honest I just played about two hours), but right now I like what I see.

I'm only about 7 hours into it, but so far, it's not really lived up to it's 39.99 price tag in my eyes. It's had it's moments of making me like it (Kal'Hirol is an example), but....well...it just feels like this expansion should've baked a bit longer before bringing it out to the market. It's not like Bioware was worried about missing the Christmas Holidays Season or something.

Its a decent, but comparatively short, stand alone add on...worth playing through. But given that the new abilities/specs/skills dont do anything to add or expand to the main game where the majority of Dragon Age's content is, its hard to see the reason for the price tag for any reason other than, "Because we can."

I actually activated this account just to complain about Awakening. I want my money back. Or at least a free second half to this game. Way too short for $40. And also way too easy. I beat the whole thing without having to reload the game once. This is not because I'm awesome, this is because the game is disappointing.Image IPB

Well at least you made it clear that you are not awesome.

I wouldn't call it an "epic" fail... Think of it as a gorgeous souffle that you were looking forward to for ages and ages, waiting patiently. You know that it may flop, but its still gonna taste good right?

So you watch your Awakenings souffle bake, lick your lips, carefully hand over your money and install it.

Its definately deflated, its way under cooked and seriously lacks substance, but its still a souffle so it kinda tastes good, and you kinda like it, but its REALLY  not an epic success, even if its not an epic fail either.

I haven't eaten today, its 11pm in australia. excuse the food analogy lol

I'm enjoying the game and as for price....the $40 I paid seems reasonable.

If I was going to be ok with no using DLC items I would have wanted it posted clearly on the box that DLC item's weren't going to transfer to awakening and not have it be an extremly unpleasent surprise after I just gave them 40 of my dollars ( much like the ending to awakening was ).

If it had been on the box then they might not have your 40 dollars :)

In bioware's defense, they are fairly new at making RPGs (this is sarcasm) so they probably didn't understand most players consider losing hard won items to be a BIG DEAL.

I just started it and I'm liking it pretty much. Perhaps I don't have high expectations but so far I'm having a blast. What's up with the ending choices from DA:O having no effect on Awakening? I saw Alistair being king which coincides with my DA:O ending. Someone care to explain the displeasure?

If you sacrificed yourself at the end of Origins, you can either 1) play as a new Orlesian warden with default game state or 2) retcon your ending to be alive once more.

Thus the displeasure.

But either way Awakening makes the DA:O "background" story up for you? With no relevance to your choices?

If you sacrificed yourself then theirs no way to directly carry on your story without creating a plot hole.

And to be honest I kind of EXPECTED that that ending wouldn't carry on to the inevitable Dragon Age 2 LOOOOOONG before Awakening was even announced.

Some people have very, very high expectations.

Nope, nothing gets contradicted. If *spoiler* is king he will still be king in awakening. If you killed *spoiler* he will still be dead.

The only thing that gets retconned is your death. That's IT. Everything else should match up.

Lets say I star a new Origins game from scratch right so can I jump to Awaking an jump about from the original areas an the new areas back and forth? that is what a expansion is supposed to be!

You couldn't do that in SoU or HotU (NWN expansions). Those are BioWare examples. Can't do that in NWN2's expansions either (Obsidian examples).

also can't do it in BG2 throne of bhaal the only shared area within the two games is watcher's Keep.

Ah BG2, now THAT was a plothole where Minsc was in my party and knew who I was despite the fact that I KILLED HIM STONE DEAD in BG1.

Hmm. Doesn't sound too bad. I wonder how to complainers would have wanted it since I hardly see any other way.

The quantity(price per hour) is double that of the DLCs released so far.
The quality of Awakening is also much, MUCH better than the DLCs.
I have no regrets paying $40 for this expansion(and no intention of ever paying $5 for RtO).
This game isn't perfect, but no game ever is.

I didn't hate it, but I wasn't a big fan.

Would give it a 6.5/10
Contrasted with Origins which I had as an 9/10

Far more generous than I. I would've said if Origins was an 8, then Awakening is a 4 or 5.

Major letdown. I get a feeling its console users who are more upset about it than PC users. PC users still have plenty of mods and a toolkit to keep them happy. I wasn't fully aware of all the differences between the PC version, so I bought the 360 version for convenience. It's kind of like NWN. NWN had a terrible campaign, but people didn't mind because the editor resulted in a ton of excellent player made adventures.

I read through all the posts in this thread and it's all very subjective as are all opinions, but I took issue with this post more than any other, and here's why:

NWN's campaign was most certainly not lame. I remember wishing the guys I played table top with would DM a campaign like that. A few years later a friend wrote an outstanding campaign that would make an awesome game or set of books. He really hooked me in and kept the pacing nice and steady with some pretty rough decisions through out. Best DM I've ever played with. My biggest complaint about Origins is that the free roaming detracts from the pacing of the story and diminishes it as a whole. I would have preferred a more linear experience that branches based on your decisions.

Anyway, I liked the original NWN campaign, but I haven't been able to Stomach NWN2's campaign long enough to even make it to act 3.

We have known for quite some time ..that NO dlc items were transferring over except those from RTO..so why is this a complaint?   Unless you haven't done alot of reading of the FAQ etc?

They told us the reason why the Mabari won't be there...budget ...cutscenes are fairly expensive to produce..an expansion has a limited budget.

Dog was all about cutscenes, ANY interaction you had with him was a cutscene.   Thats why.

But that was also stated here on the forums a few times.    I gather you don't keep up with news.

Pre-release information does not omit the validity of a complaint, nor does their excuse for not including companions from the original game.

I don't think I'm going to buy the expack. I can't see myself continuing my DAO character without my warhound or Leilana, and playing someone else (the Orleisian) as the leader of the Grey Wardens would simply be a cruel joke not even worth the 40$ price tag. I'll spend this money on something far more rewarding, and borrow the game off of a friend just to say that I at least checked it out.

Epic Fail by Bioware standards is still better than what most of the industry has to offer. However, that can't last forever. KotOR2's epic fail by Obsidian standards was also better than what most of the industry has to offer, but then they failed again with NWN2 and I stopped caring.

Bioware can only fail so many times before I just stop bothering.
