The storyline wasn't horrid, but the cheesy dialogues did me in. Half the time you forget you're dealing with adults and not 4-year-olds.  "I am a dwarf, hear me fart!"  Maturity is so overated.

I'm 10 hours into DAO: Awakening and I'm still enjoying. Sure, the time it takes to finish Awakening is just quarter of what it took to finish Dragon Age: Origins, but I would rather play 15-20 hours of Awakening than to slog through 50+ hours of Final Fantasy XIII. Played through that game, just to see the lesbian lovers happy ending *grumble* *grumble*

Anyway, does it really take 10-12 hours to finish to Awakening? I still got two of main quests and some sub-quests to finish, so am I that slow? It's not like I spent the entire time reading the codex.

:o Bioware had a horrid storyline? I thought one of the requirements to work a Bioware was to know how to make a great story. :P

what i was expecting was a the new skills/spells/specializations incorporated into the original campaign then being able to goto the awakening after you killed the blighted dragon. very dissappointed in bioware/ea not to mention none of the DLC items import into awakening.

did they even up the level cap in da:origins .... sheeze really let down here.

Well I just finished playing through Awakening and I'm really disappointed. The story didn't catch me like it did in almost every earlier Bioware game and the fights were ridiculously easy. I played the later fights with a 3-man group (Oghren, Velanna, Rogue PC) on Nightmare difficulty without an actual healer and still didn't have any problems except in the last fight.
Leveling doesn't feel like an achievement, because you're getting level-ups about every 5 minutes and you don't have time to get used to your new abilities until you're getting another 2 or 3.
Where DAO was a truly epic story, I finished Awakening in about a day including probably most side quests.
The new dialogue system is fun from time to time, but it would've been far better when combined with the old one. I just feel like there's a lot missing in terms of dialogue options.
On top of that some bugs totally ruined the game experience (had to play through one part of the story 4 times and my melee chars couldn't attack the end boss - guess that's a bug too).
The late part of the story wasn't that bad, but overall I'm used to far better content from Bioware. Hope you'll do better with DAO 2.
Sorry, if it doesn't translate that well. My english isn't that good...

I liked it, I guess many people are disappointed because they thought it would be almost a Dragon Age 2 instead of an expansion, the price isn't the best but it's Bioware and it's part of a great title that's DA:O, so I think it's worth to play, and eventually buy.

debating whether I should buy it or not..

the cost vs the story

:ZZZ

The more I read the more depressed I'm getting now. Before Awakening was released, we were hearing 'don't worry, your romances are still there - just temporarily on hold' I was fine with that until now. When I hear 'temporarily on hold' I assume we will reconnect with our Origins significant other again, as in a future game. There was no closure at the end of my PCs story at the end of Origins, quite the contrary (of course this does not apply to everyone's PC). Now, after reading through many posts from those who have played Awakening, it seems as if this is the end of all of our Origins characters and story - wow, I am really disheartened by this to say the least. I'm trying to be optimistic, thinking that this is only speculation from a few people. That's what I thought about Awakening prior to its release as well after reading all the posts on how people thought the game would be. I figured it was just speculation and the negative things that people were saying could not be true but now has turned out to be correct. Now the forecast for future games appears bleak for certain. What I am most unhappy with, is now after playing Awakening many feel it has ruined how they feel about the Origins game and many no longer want to play it.

I was really hoping that Bioware would patch that. To me that is the biggest drawback of Awakenings. I am having a lot of fun with the expansion and it is making me wish to finish up my Dalish scout, and my Human Noble orgins, however I want to add to their builds the skills found in Awakenings.

But these are level 20-30 skills and builds,  the orignal Origins is already easy, using 20-30 skills for 1-20 content....

I mean, it really depends on your endings. I don't see how my ending could be expanded much. Awakening is fun, so I hope people just go buy it. It may not be Origins, but the way I figure, if we don't support DA, then they could just stop making it. Pick up Awakening, play through it, and express your concerns in these forums. Hopefully the devs will listen and the next time we will see improvements in the areas we want. I just wish they had given a little more answers about what previous companions are up to. A codex, letter, or something.

I say they can scale those things down since they already make Awakenings easy as it is. As a matter of fact, I'm sure a modder do that soon enough.

It wasn't an epic fail for me. I was satisfied with everything. Could of been some improvements here and there but I got my money's worth.

I thought the expansion was great, and in fact, despite that fact I knew there was hate floating around before I played it, I STILL thought it was good. I spent the whole game going, wtf were they moaning about?!

Epic Fail? No I think Awakenings is a good expansion. I am getting my money's worth. It is providing me with an entertainment value on par with Origins and way better than other games that have come out in the past few years..

So far I am liking it a lot. It is more Dragon Age content.

We get to see new locations. I think the level design and the pacing of the combat has improved. I have only done Wending Wood. I thought the quality of the level was as good as a DA:O location.

Amaranthine city is not huge. But the atmosphere compares well to walking around Denerim city. It was nice to see another Ferelden urban location. Also it is nice to run your own base.

I am not rushing through it. I have been savouring getting to experience more of Ferelden.

Same here I'm lovin dis game!:D

While I don't think Awakening was worth US$40 (although I got it for only US$26, so it was worth it to me), I still thought it was a decent expansion.  I know people complain about how short it is, and that the length shouldn't matter as long as the content is good, but I think making it longer would have fixed a lot of problems for me.

SPOILERS IN THE FOLLOWING.  DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT THE GAME SPOILED FOR YOU.  :police:

1.) First and foremost, the storyline.  I think Bioware was headed in the right direction with the story and really had good intentions, but fell flat.  It was fun to be able to rule your arling, deciding who to kill, etc., but it didn't really feel like your decisions had any impact one way or another.  Also, when it comes to the Commander of the Grey decisions such as who to conscript and who to allow to do the joining, I didn't feel as powerful and authoritative as I had hoped.  It seemed forced, like if I didn't conscript them then I'm just missing out on another companion and more dialogue.  Finally, as many have said before me, the ending just pounced on you all of a sudden.  It seemed as though there were hours of content between the three main quests and the Mother's lair that were taken out.  There really was no building up to the final boss and precious little time making the Architect appear the antagonist, so the feeling of suspense was completely lost on me.  I think Bioware may have set their sights a little high at releasing Awakening so early, and were rushed to finish it at the end.  Overall, the story seemed like one of those timed writes you used to have to write in school, where you realize you have five minutes left and you're only on your third paragraph, so you scribble in a sentence-long conclusion to wrap it up.

2.) Characters.  The characters seemed a bit two-dimensional and dull.  I suppose it fits for the role though, because I really felt like my fellow Wardens were just that: co-workers who I spend a lot of time with, but don't really want to befriend.  I liked the new dialogue system--I think it was an improvement that I no longer need to dig through decades of asking about someone's past in the Templars or the Wilds--but I would have liked more chances to talk to my companions.  It's a stark contrast from DA:O, where you're talking to your companions for a good quarter of the time; I had maybe three conversations with Sigrun, two with Justice, and five with Nathaniel.  I found it much harder to get their approval up than in DA:O--I never got the auto-100% glitch--especially considering I never got my gifts back after going through the Silverite Mines, for whatever reason.  I believe the characters could have had potential, but the time restraints hurt that potential.

3.) Decisions, decisions, decisions!  I wasn't happy with this.  I've only played through Awakening once with my FHM Deòridh, who married Alistair and became Queen, but from what I can tell, your decisions from Origins don't really matter in Awakening.  Nathaniel responded to my origin and there was a sweet interaction between Alistair and Deòridh in the beginning, but besides that, the game doesn't really "[react] at various points to your background, sometimes in
dramatic ways" like Bioware said it would.  I saw no mention of my decisions at the Circle Tower, Redcliffe, Orzammar, or Brecilian Forest, but I'm hoping with subsequent playthroughs using different origins, etc. I will see at least a slight change.  Also, most of your decisions in Awakening felt pointless and didn't really seem to affect the game.

4.) Finally, ending.  This probably should have gone with 'storyline', but I think it deserves a category all its own.  I was disappointed with the epilogue and it left me feeling unfulfilled.  I was fine with all the character endings and was feeling satisfied until I reached my character's slide.  I had a huge "Wait... what?" moment at the end there.  I don't remember all the fine print, but basically what it said was that Deòridh returned to Denerim to be Queen with Alistair waiting, 'grinning ear-to-ear', but after a time, I believe it said, she left and disappeared.  That was a really lousy ending, Bioware.  It gave me no closure whatsoever and made no sense.  It sounded like Bioware was trying to think of the easiest way to get rid of my character, and it sure leaves me feeling like this was the end of my hero's story.  Of course, one could dispute it was leading into yet another adventure, though, because it also mentioned how "many said this wasn't the end of the Warden-Commander's story" (in so many words).

I, for one, hope they take this route and continue with the PC in a future game.  Let her end her life in luxury in the lap of Denerim's throne or at least let have the decency to have her die heroically.

Overall, I think Awakening had plenty of potential, but fell flat.  With more effort put into it and a longer story, I think it could have been a great expansion worthy of the DA title.  I am happy I bought it because it supplied me with a few more hours of the game I love, but I wouldn't have spent US$40 for it.  I've started my second playthrough as an Orlesian male human with hopes that people will react differently, and thus give the game more replay value.  Then again, seeing as how I beat Awakening in a day, the game should only really carry me over to next week assuming I import all of my 'major' PCs.
