What fake dark wolf? The one in front of the fountain is legit, but if it's another wolf I dunno.

Actually, depending on how you played Origins, it's not. If you do the Crime Wave quests, you're the one named as the Dark Wolf.

The Wolf has never backstabbed me, I do believe that they're trust worthy.

You mean if you do the Crime Wave Quest you become the Dark Wolf? Huh, guess my noble rogue missed out. But yah the Wolf lives up to his reputation, just wish I could have had him sign on with me.

Maybe it's Zevran in disguise having a laugh at your expense.

Try to take him into custody and see what happens.

I took him into custody 1st, and had a good battle. But then I started second guessing myself, thinking that maybe I do need the info.

Yes he can be trusted. Be proactive and stop the conspiracy before they can even take any actions against you.

What happens if you're not proactive; not pay him, not kill them? The guard captain chappie seems fairly annoyed and calls me a murderer?

lol I wondered that myself too, but he didn't have the accent. I wouldn't mind him showing up again in future games, though, possibly being a new character to add to the party. He seems like he'd be quite handy. :)

If you did the Crime Wave, one of the conversation options that first pops up is: "You're not the Dark Wolf. I am." I didn't choose that option - maybe I should have and seen what happens. I suspect that this pseudo-Dark Wolf is none other than what's his name - the guy who gave out the Crime Wave quests.

If you have done the crime wave quests and tell him your the real dark wolf he just says he assumed the previous one had been arrested or killed

Hmmm . . . then maybe it was for the best that I did not reveal that I was the original "Dark Wolf". Yeah, I paid him the 50 gold and killed the conspirators. Wonder what happens if I don't pay? What sort of trouble do the bad guys come up with?

I told him that I was the real Dark Wolfe, then I just left him alone. Didn't pay him or arrest him. Once I put down the plot to kill me, he just went away.

Slim Couldry, during the crime wave quest, says 'They're calling you the Dark Wolf!' if you get far enough along. You're supposed to be the second coming of the Black Fox, basically. (Black Fox codex comes fron Lothering's Chantry.)

When I talked to the fake dark wolf and revealed myself as the true Dark Wolf, he basically stammered and said, "I thought you were dead or had gone away - I'm keeping the legend alive" or somesuch. He did give good info tho, and I had the opportunity to tell him later that he'd lived up to the Dark Wolf name and basically gave him permission to keep using the name. (I figured from an rp perspective this was a good thing as it might not be prudent to have The Hero of Ferelden ™ known as a criminal - albeit a Robin Hood sort of character - and this gave my char the opportunity to go on doing what she was doing and live up to her new role.)

I thought it was fun and a nice commentary on human nature and media in general. :) Fun stuff. It'd have been fun to be able to bargain the price a little bit after revealing that I was the Dark Wolf from an rp perspective, but it wasn't necessary. I was amused regardless. :)

I figure that this is Slim living the life of freedom he seemed to desire back in Denerim. But he now wants 50 in gold???

Yeah, I thought this "Dark Wolf" was Slim with a full helmet.  And upon seeing my PC, I thought he would have stammered something like, "Uh . . . oh, it's you, Warden!  I've got another opportunity for you, if you're so inclined.  A gaggle of conspirators and it will only cost you 40 sovereigns!  No?  Maybe 30?"

Snicker, Zy-El. That would have been too funny!

I dunno, Elhanan. I don't think 'Slim' would fit into that armor.

I doubt it's anyone we've seen before, just the latest Dread Pirate Roberts kind of thing.

Then I should be demanding royalties! This would help with the cost of upkeep! Posted Image

It had to be someone from your party from Origins, Slim, maybe the Bann you stole the tears from so he can get even with you later.  Who was that masked man? Posted Image

Can you become the Dark Wolf if you've chosen to only do pickpocketing missions, or do I need to do stealth too?

I think it's best to play it both ways, helps with leveling.  The last two missions for breakins and pickpocket decide on your dark wolf title.  So for me this is the way I've always played this.  I've never done one without the other, maybe someone else knows. I'm speaking from a rogue point of view and not a mage or warrior.

I do know that as a mage or warrior you do have to have the steal skill to even start the quest with Slim.  I think if you have Leliana or Zev in your party when you talk with him you might get both the breakins and robbery both.  I completed the quest for my mage but I don't remember how I did it.  I do know to get all the quest playing as a rogue you have to tell him you do it all and this does help get your dark wolf title.
