I managed to do all of Slim's quests with full Coersion and Stealth, but only required a single Stealing talent plus a decent Cunning score for bonuses. However, I did have to face about 2 dozen or more Guards in a later encounter, so I left witnesses where an evil Warden may be able to evade that problem.

If you pay him the 50 gold and then kill the ones planning the conspiracy, one of them Lady something cant remember her name appears alive and well in the Day at Court bit lol
Bug! If you kill Lord Guy (one of the conspirators) and didn't finish your ceremony in Vigil's Keep before, he can still be seen standing there.
Bug! If you kill Lady Liza Packton (another conspirator) before the A Day in Court quest, she will still appear at a trial over land.

Last play through I only finished the pickpocketing missions. Slim told me they were calling me the Dark Wolf.

Many people think it's a "Dread Pirate Roberts" situation (a la Princess Bride).
Essentially, you earned the nickname "The Dark Wolf" from your Denerim exploits, but nobody ever really knew who that person was. Other than Slim, of course, and he's not telling.
So this guy seems to be another rogue who, since no one knows who that was originally, is now claiming he was that person. Yes, there is an intentional irony by the devs., I suspect, given that you might well be the person he is claiming to be, if you did Slim's quests (but he doesn't know that!).
AFAIK, there's no option to confront him on it.
I suspect he'll be a returning NPC.
