Thank you very much. This x86 file fixed the problem. Now the game starts with patch 1.01. It ALSO fixed my problems with activating Stone Prisoner and Blood Armor. :-)

Same problem, though I'm running win 7. If someone knows an update for Visuals C++ that works, I would be glad to know where to find it.
At least I'm still able to play the game directly by running the CD.

Same problem, although I got Windows 7.
Does anyone knows where to find a Microsoft Visuals C++ that works for that OS?
I'm happy I can still run the game directly by running the CD.

I was off track. I found another forum post where someone diagnosed the problem better.

the fix is to install an updated file from MS:
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en
Doing this made my game able to run again.
Worked great for me, thanks a lot man!

Twisted - thanks so much - I spent many hours trying to figure out why my game would no longer start - and it actually did that BEFORE I applied the patch - thought the patch might fix it but that wasn't the deal. I saw alot of suggestions about C++ upgrade which I did as well but that didn't work either. For others trying to find the fix. . . . be very clear on what file you are downloading here on the page he mentions - as the microsoft site page is very. . . confusing (well to me at least). . . if you are running windows XP look for the tab with vcredist_x86.exe - I guess the others are likely for Vista or something. Anyhow damn glad to be back in game and thanks again to you Twisted.

I wonder if everyone here has the toolset? I merely ask because I am wondering if that may be the issue....

The x86 Microsoft download fixed it for me! Thanx
EDIT: PS: I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit, but I downloaded the x86 version from Microsoft
and after that, problem solved. (Game didn't start when I pushed the PLAY button after
installing 1.01 patch).
I went to:
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en
..scroll down to:
vcredist_x86.exe --> DOWNLOAD
(To confirm you got the right file, you can check the file size; should be approx. 2.61 MB).
Thanx

I have to say, Dragon Age is really off to a remarcable start - so far I have been trying to solve issues with not getting my additional content, patches that doesn't work and the laughable 23 out of 900 or so people finding the solutions on EA support page as helpful...
