I was just thinking about the sole survivor background and why some people hate Cerberus. Now, I personally have never played this background point being I didnt care for the Thresher Maws incident ( I was looking more for a rambo style thing). Now, back on point I was thinking for those who hate Cerberus because of Akuze shouldnt some blame go to the Alliance. The reason is well you have to go back to what Kahoku saided that Cerberus went rogue months ago not years.

It's likley that TIM has had control of Cerberus for a long time, even while Cerberus was techinally part of the Alliance. It was probably covered up by Cerberus/TIM through his connections so that they could do thier research. When Cerberus went "rouge" isn't when TIM took control, that's just when TIM decided to overtly split off from the Alliance.

Good point. Just adds to my dislike of the Alliance. Doesn't change my opinion of Cerebus in any way though.

Neither Hackett nor Kahoku seemed to have any idea that Cerberus was connected to what happened there until after you discover the connection by meeting Toombs. Hackett's tone during that conversation seemed to make it clear that he was very suspicious that someone was trying to cover something up by killing those scientists.

Now that doesn't mean no one in the Alliance knew what was going on, but it likely wasn't known even to those who had top security clearance. It's more along the lines of what Executor Pallin says about C-Sec. Some people are going to be corrupt, of course, but the organization as a whole works to remove corruption. So, a few people knew. If those people are found out and sufficient proof that Cerberus was unable to cover up brought against them, they would undoubtedly be found guilty of various crimes.

Cerberus has been pulling strings and manipulating events for quite some time - some descriptions seem to indicate all the way back to shortly after the first contact war. Kahoku also seemed to be poorly informed about Cerberus in general, so what he discovered may have been just the tip of the iceberg. One of Cerberus' cells, not the entire organization. In the two years between ME1 and ME2, it has become far more widely known, clearly.

I do feel that if they planned this entire Cerberus thing from the beginning, they didn't do as good foreshadowing as I would personally have liked, given the significance Cerberus appeared to gain in the short two years between games. It makes me wonder if Cerberus was originally planned as a major side-issue, or perhaps an alternate path for more human-centric renegade Shepards, rather than the only main contact and source of support during ME2.
