I figured that I would ask here first, as it is late and EA Support is currently closed. I have been reading and noticed that CTD's are common on the Phenom processors. Well, I have been experiencing random crashing. It doesn't give me and option to really see what is going on, but all my drivers are up-to-date, and I have the latest 1.03 patch. I only have Dragon Age: Origins and the two freebie DLC that came with it. My specs are as follows:

Gigabyte MA790GPT-UD3H
AMD Athlon II X3 (Rana 435) 2.9GHz
2x2GB G.Skill Ripjaws Series DDR 3 1600 (PC 12800)
XFX Radeon 5770 1GB Video Card
Windows 7 Home 64 Bit

Are the affinity problems with multi-core limited to the Phenom processors or would my Triple-Core fall in the same category? Thanks.

I have a phenom ii x3 710 @ 3.0, I have CTDs like hell with 1.03.
However i do have an Nvidia 260 should not matter i guess though.

1.02a no problems at all.
1.02a=2 playthroughs worth of time. No crashs.
1.03=Crash every 15-20 mins. Along with all other bugs it brings.

I would stick with patch 1.02a. I would not recommend the latest patch to anyone amd or not though haha.

It's a known problem and has been for more then a week that patch 1.03 breaks the game.

The only reason the patch is still out is probably that they couldn't sell Awakening without it.

Is there a way to roll back to 1.02a without reinstalling, and will my current game saves work with a roll back/reinstall? Like I said, I am new to the game (got it earlier this week), but I still have more than a few hours logged, and would really dislike having to replay to get back to where I am, but I guess if there are no other options, I will roll back.

Sadly not - you've got to do a full reinstall. Remember to backup your saves first. I think you can also copy your override directory, so you won't have to reinstall your mods.

Okay, thank you. I am not running mods right now, so I don't think I will have to worry too much about it now. (I never play mods on my first run through of a game.)

I figured that I would post an update. A CSR for EA/Bioware stated during one of the live support chats that my game save was likely corrupt, and that I would need to delete my game save folder and start a new character. The rep did not attempt to diagnose the problem, and seemed like he was running off of a scripted line, and attributed the problem to improperly closing the game (which is hilarious because the only time I have ever "improperly" closed the game was when it crashed to desktop and I didn't have a choice. I am not thinking I am gonna be happy if I delete my save and it does this again after a few hours.

Yeah man, the CTD issue is pretty prevalent. A lot of us experienced it. I'm just holding off playing Awakening till 1.04. Had to do a full reinstall though to get 1.02a back :(

EDIT : I too am on a Phenom II 720 TriCore BlackEdition. I too also have got over 100 hours played under patch 1.02a with no problems at all, soon as patch 1.03, nightmare!

Sorry, never posted an update, but I am now playing on 1.03 without issues. I had to run the game in admin mode on windows 7 and set the affinity from tri-core to single or dual...
