Ok, after some witner slumber I read that on 25th of march there will be a conference at CDP, and TW2 will be officially anounced with (assumpitons and rumors) tons of promotional content ( a trailer/gameplay maybe?)

I just cant wait!

So, do you remember the game? Or were folowing news the whole time?

I hope this time the game will be "hyped" more. To interest wider gaming society...

And they say that the story/choices/ambiguity/drama will be even better....

If it'll be better than the first one, I think I'll ****** my pants. If it'll be at least as good as the first one I'll be happy as pig in ****. That game can't come soon enough.

It's gonna be some time till it gets released. The Witcher is one of the best RPGs ever (IMO better than DAO, ME1, JE, NWN1&2, KOTOR2 and a lot of other RPGs)

I quite enjoyed the first Witcher game and I am exited to hear that there will be a sequel.

Hopefully it will have a less atrocious combat style than the first one.

You know, I saw The Witcher at Game yesterday and took a look, the imagery looks rather cool and better than I was expecting. Might go out and buy it and have a trundle through sometime.

It was not so bad in Hard mode. Then at least one needed to pay attention and time each sword swing correctly instead of just waiting for the cursor to change.

Ideal combat system would be like Gothic 2 or Risen... but that is not going to happen.

Didn't they already confirm The Witcher 2 is in production?

Still need to finish the first, actually.

I liked the idea behind the witchers combat, it was just implemented in a dreary way. I wish Dragon Age made weapon coating appear more of a pre-prepared thing for specific types of creatures. Sure, you can make up poisons and what not but the use of them is instantaneous, you don't stop and actually coat the bloat or get a long term effect, they tend to run out pretty quickly. Theres also an over-bundance of ingredients for poisons (and health) you can be sitting with hundreds of them. I never really got that with the Witcher.

Rhythm-based clicking just isn't that exciting.  I could play through the combat without even looking at the screen once I got the rhythm of each style down.

Combat needs to have more choices and tactics to it than it does in The Witcher to be engaging, imo.

The story was okay (though I felt I needed more background and the whole investigation quest was really screwed up, or at least seemed to be with me apparently clearing suspects that I didn't have any information on or realized I'd cleared) but the combat was just so bad I couldn't bear to play through it for any extended period.  I'd have liked to have had more areas too, but that's just a personal thing.

While a love a good story, poor gameplay can ruin a game, and I tend to lean in that direction when I think about The Witcher.

They did, but so far it was "when it's done" (there's also a game footage on the net, pre-alpha or something like that), the OP said they are going to announce the official release date on 25th

That was the primary reason I couldn't even start the game. Even Jade Empire's was much better. From the videos I saw a while back however, it looks like it's basically the same combat system.

Well, considering I have just bought the Witcher Enhanced Edition (its sitting right next to me on my desk at work) I'm hoping that I'll have the time to finish it before Witcher 2: Now with added Witchiness! comes out. Hope I actually like it too, £29.99 for a massive box with all the extras this is supposed to have is still a good deal either way.

You should be fine Flint, last I heard they were still looking for a publisher (hence why the demo was made last year and then subsequently leaked)...

They are in production, but I would really not expect anything for a couple fo years. PC title mainly but they are looking at the possibility of porting to the consoles too....wont be here anytime soon :)

That Enhanced Edition is sweet, I have it too. Even if for some reason you won't like The Witcher, that box alone is worth it.

Aye I should have plenty of time then, excellent (though not for the fans who've been waiting for it I guess :P). Hope they keep it PC-focused even if they do port to consoles, no disrespect intended for console players but you just don't get many PC-focused games much anymore its nice to see one when it comes along. :(  Hopefully they'll find a publisher, that seems to be the major problem you hear that devs encounter these days.

It does look sweet, though the box is a bit tatty, since it was the last one they had and it was out of stock online (I just happened to stumble across it at Game) I'm guessing it was the display copy they've had lying around, still it looks good and has alot more than most CEs I've seen in a long while.

What gets me excited most is the new engine...its supposed to do miracles ;) specially built for rpgs, non-linear choices/consequences plot options, physics, weather, night-day cycle, interaction and whatnot.
I wont even mention the possibility of jumping over fences, or climbing a ladder. Picturesque-heavy, a real treat if it'll pull it off.
Lets hope.
No drm policy, rich and "enchanced" edition with the same content all over the world...may be censored in certain countries (it may be inavoidable) but sure to be available for patching day one (lets hope so for all the US players), reviving the "original" content...
I like cookies :D

The alchemy system in The Witcher is awesome, specially in Hard diff where it is a must and makes all the difference. And I agree, the coating animation is cool. I even like the combat system, in hard diff, where there is no mouse cursor to tip about when to click, except for a very subtle weapon trail. And hitting combo after combo is fun!

To think that it was all done with BioWare's engine... heh

When they "fix" some serious flaws in gamedesign (e.g. beast fight): can't wait :) Thanks for the reminder, good game to play again. Played it last time when it was released :)

I loved this game... when I heard they gonna officially announce the sequel by the end of this month.... I bought the first two books, to get into the world (I haven't read them until now)... next I read the rest of them... play the first AGAIN.... and I am ready for W2!

And I have to agree... this game is waaaay better than KOTOR2... but equal to ME1 (in my humble opinion)!

All in all it promises to be a great game... BUT I don't want to expect said miracles... it will be only a game still!

The first game makes one proud to be polish!

1. I found the combat to be too simplistic and not enjoyable at all.
2. Extra weapons slots? Why use the other weapons they were worthless. They made for good extra inventory slots tho.
3. Some more information on the alchemy ingrediants and their uses. Maybe I missed something in my couple of playthrus but I was lost with what does what or can be used in what mixture.

All and all that few things took little away from the experiance and it was a great game.

The Witcher was decent but both times I tried to play it, I ended up quitting half way through.

You're missing out, the start is so-so but the later part of the game is really good, as far as "cliffhanger" endings go, it's not lame crap like Halo 2, Crysis e.t.c.... it's pretty satisfying for (this game) as well as making you want a sequel. There is also some nice late reactions to decisions made story-wise, it doesn't feel contrived and obvious like some of Biowares stuff, it feels very natural. The end boss battle and plot twst regarding the boss is also pretty well done.
