3. Some more information on the alchemy ingrediants and their uses. Maybe I missed something in my couple of playthrus but I was lost with what does what or can be used in what mixture.

Takes a little practice and reading but once you get used with the Albedo, Nigredo and Rubedo stuff, it's really awesome to make some potions with those secondary properties, plus the primary properties which are pretty cool tool.

I love everything about the witcher but I don't compare games. I just enjoy them and I've enjoyed it so much. Took me a while too, some 2 full runs with Isometric Camera before I really learned how to make the most of the weird OTS camera. And just like DA, my first run was in hard (NM here) and aborted after 5 minutes because I wouldn't get past that first mage (Howe's Knight here). Later it became pretty easy even in tthe hardest diff in both game.

I mostly remember the terrible combat system, the ridiculous dialouge, and the laughably shallow female characters, but the choice system and how the choices you made affected the game in big ways impressed me.

Aren't you pretty much stuck with a premade character in The Witcher?

First game is... very good... I suppose. It really has "that thing" modern mainstream games lacks.

On the other hand main plot is a horrible profanation. Srsly, they should leave old Geralt alone, he was on retirement. And stop making quotations at every opportunity, it's ridiculous for someone who has read all the books.

Looking forward to the Witcher 2.

Yes. You play as "The Witcher", who is a pre-determined character from a set of Polish fantasy books.

So I thought. I was going to give it a try, but didn't bother given that Awakening was about to come out. Once I've had my fill of the latter, I'll give it a look.

In chapter 2 at the mo (PC died horribly over the weekend, for which I'm not very happy about), and loving it. Kind of a cross between a Bioware game (strong storyline which moves your forwards through the game and unlocks areas as you move on through chapters) with some sandbox elements (day/night cycle, with some NPCs being at different places at different times and availability changing).

While you don't create your character it actually works in this game (think of it as playing a pregen, with the devs being able to focus more on the story and giving you meaningful dialogue choices as a result). I also like how its not really 'dark' like so many games try to be but is truly gray, with the choices actually being rather hard in places (I agree somewhat with what the elves are fighting for, but I also rather like Siegfried, ack so hard!)

On the one hand, I suppose it's good that Geralt varies from the stock 30 something short dark haired white male that's the pre-determined character in every single eastern european RPG and hybrid RPG made for the past 10 years.
I mean he's like totally a 40 something long white haired white male!

On the other hand, do not want.

To be honest, Geralt isn't a bad character in my experience. I just felt he suffered from the Bethesda-esque voice acting in the game.

I've not played much of the Witcher, so I keep forgetting about the "power attacks" and stuff. It's one of those games I find hard to get into for reasons I can't remember, but I know it picks up when I get to Vizima.

IMO The Witcher was for more better than Dragon Age, I found the story much better (personal taste) and more amture - can't wait for the sequel (and I hope it is not published by EA).

I wonder if Atari will pick it back up, they're a pretty good publisher.

Yeah, and I hope we get the "extended version" right from the start. I was lucky to play the game in the extended version at first. Wouldn't have know what I missed.

It wouldn't be an extended edition if it was the first, would it? :P
Enhanced Edition was a good move though, even if it wasn't necessary.

The Witcher Enchanced Edition (or Directors Cut...) - although the topic refers to the upcoming sequel: The Witcher: Assassins of Kings that will be announced 25-26 of march.

Bah, who let this kid on the internet?

I hope they release Collector's Edition for W2, similar to the EE, I'll be all over it.

There's a digital-only version (I think it's called the Director's Cut) in the US that's completely uncensored.

Oh, US versions of Witcher were censored? I totally forgot about that (probably because it didn't concern me hehe).
