And we make Bioware use DRM like Ubisoft.

One would think the software industry would have learned by now: There is no effective copy protection for singleplayer games. The only thing that can prevent copies is to make a game that makes server connections neccessary gameplay-wise. (Like: MMO) All that DRM and copy protection stuff does is, that it annoys us paying customers.

As this is common sense: No one at a software company whose brain has more than five cells would ever consider implementing some DRM protection into a singleplayer game...

I'm not aware of or interested in any way of torrenting the ps3 version of Awakening.

360 version of Awakening can be had brand new on disc for £12.95 right now (Amazon.co.uk) - about 40% of the price of the ps3 dlc version. Even if you can justify spending £31.99 on dlc only expansion, the ps3 version is hardly the same value for money as the 360 counterpart right now.

Anywho, for other reasons I will definitely be considering the Mac or Windows (or Linux!!) version of DA2 - assuming it keeps the community content aspect of DA:O and other Bioware games :)

The reason there isn't a disc version, in Europe at least, is because Sony have this thing in place which stops companies distributing DLC on disc within a certain time period of the network release. I think it must be because they want to control the DLC's pricing rather than the publisher/developer - Although GotY/Complete editions seem to be alright. Someone may attempt to prove me wrong with the Episodes of Liberty City (GTA IV DLC), but I have a counter-attack. The disc versions differ from the downloadable versions - I believe the disc ones have extra radio stations.

There may be an Awakening disc (perhaps a complete edition or DLC disc - Wouldn't surprise me with the size of BR discs) in the future, but I couldn't say if it'll ever happen.

If Sony want to compete with Microsoft in Europe then they seriously need to review their policy about this, Europe/PAL seems to get the short end of the stick in terms of game support/DLC and release dates

I bought it but SCEE are stupid for not letting it be released on disc, more people buy from retailers and some people don't have internet so they can't get any DLC.

Right so either some people like getting ripped off or they
are just too lazy to use Google to find a better deal.

Awakenings (as i am sure people have mentioned) is not DLC only. And as has
been mentioned you can get it from amazon for seriously cheap AND eBay for prob
cheaper (used)

dont blame prices of games for your illegitimate reasons for piracy.

I also download games from torrents but if I like the game I will buy the
original! And if I dont well then I delete the game and thats that. Is it
right? probably not, but at least im not blaming it on "high" game
prices.

FYI, I picked up a used copy of ME2 CE for €25.00 then I bought the Cerberus
code for an extra €2.00 just search the net folks, there are plenty of offers
out there.

below are some links to help the lazy folk out there

DAO:A PC
DAO:A PS3
DAO:A XBOX 360
E-Bay Quick Search

Some Sites that sell cheap games
Cool Shop UK
Play-Asia

Urik187: Your link for DAO:A PS3 leads to just DAO. As far as I know, in Europe Awakening is only available for PS3 as DLC. If you play on a different country or plataform maybe you don't know that because all other plataforms has it released on disk, and outside Europe you can buy a PS3 Awakening disk. But in Europe, PS3 users have no other choice than buying it as a DLC at a quite unfair price, since right now even the main game (as you've shown us) is cheaper.

So please don't say people is lazy, maybe it is you who didn't google all the options.

You're not reading what you're posting, Urik. Play-Asia cannot ship that to the European Union - where DA:O-A is not sold on disc. I would suspect it's because they've had returns of working copies that people cannot use.

If you look at this post, it confirms that a non-European Awakening disc does not work with a European game.

I'm pretty sure Starcraft needed something like this where you had to be connected to battlenet but that was cracked in less than 2 days. You can skirmish and campaign

Awakening is a great addition to Origins. If you're a fan of Origins, then you'll be a fan of Awakening. It has tons of content and it advances the story well.

If you do side quests, you can easily get up to 20 hours per playthrough.  Once you multiply that by however many times you play through, be it once or multiple times, then price really becomes a non-point.

On the other hand, if you're the type of person who just plays through the main questline and never does a side quest, then Dragon Age isn't your type of game anyway.

That's fair enough, but the fact still stands that DA:O and ME2 can bought for around £15 each more than half the price, and when looking at it that way Awakening priced at £32 doesn't seem that good value for money (IMO)

It was a thread about PS3 version (overpriced in all PS stores that belong to SCEE:devil:). There's no piracy on PS3. And without Linux support it's a closed system and it will never be hacked.

Just another kick in the teeth. The Facebook page for Dragon Age is advertising Awakening at a reduced price.

Would be nice to see them cut the price as an apology for taking almost ten months to fix the game, if they dropped it to $20-25 I'm sure a lot of people would grab it now that most of the bugs have been fixed.

Sony have no such thing in place. Developers/Publishers choose to sell only through DLC because the price of Blu-rays is prohibitivly expensive still. To release an expansion at a lowered cost on such a medium doens't always make financial sense to the devs/publishers. It's the reason the Fallout and Borderlands DLC didn't come standalone on disc as it did for the 360. And Sony don't control the prices on PSN of third party content. That's why companies like Sega and Capcom often have sales on PSN but EA and others don't.

Oh, really? EA seem to disagree with you on that, and I don't think they'd make up something like that, or we would have heard about it.

They may not have it in place in the US, but in Europe they do.

PS3 Awakening has been priced too high for too long. It's a joke to even start at £31. My PC can't play Dragon Age and I won't be buying the game all over again on 360. Soon as Awakenings price is reduced I'll get it with all the other DLC or wait for a GOTY edition and rebuy it. Even then GOTY editions usually go for cheap, around the £20 mark for most games yet DLC prices are never reduced. Example: Fallout 3 GOTY I got for £15. The price for the normal game and all the DLC combined from Live/PSN is appaling. This needs an official response! Reduce the price soon before people stop caring, you've already started the Dragon Age 2 propaganda.

Price isn't much better for the 360, it's more for ps3 because of it being on bluray. I'd also buy it if the price droppped, but with the amount of people that have bought it at it's current price I don't think we'll see a drop any time soon. The best idea is to shop around online, maybe find a used copy for a decent price, sucks, but right now there's not much else.

@OnlyShallow89 - Hmmm, you seem to be right about the release on Blu-Ray. The cost of the download is still controlled by EA though.

@DannyBoy 13 - read the whole topic, this isn't a disc issue - the european version is download only.

Yeh in Europe the 360 and PC versions of Awakening are available on disc and they are really cheap, talking like £11 here. PS3 version is PSN download only for £31. Anyone know how big the download is from PSN?
