Depleted Galaxy

The result of this seems to be that on every playthrough since, I am randomly short of one mineral out of the 4 - no mattger how I horde, or what I do, one of them always runs deficits and delays upgrades as a result - it is most often platinum follwed by element zero then radium and has only been palladium once.
Who knew that palladium was the most common element in the unvierse.
Did anyone else have anything similiar ? I am fairly certain I am the only one who depleted every planet prior to going through the Omega 4 but I am curious to know if anyone else is experiencing shortages as they do multiple playthroughs.

PS I hate this whole planet-scanning business

I thought one way of relieving the tedium or at least make it worth some effort would be to allow trading of materials - after all you are private sector now. This can make each of the main planets more interesting as trade centres. Moreover, we could earn some extra cash to buy more upgrades, or if you are in the fortunate position of having excess cash to buy the resources instead of wasting time scanning!

If you actually depleted the entire Milky Way of resources... you have more patience than I. I started depleting clusters one at a time, got to 3 clusters depleted before I realized the game doesn't even really track it, nor is it any kind of achievement, nixed that quick fast and in a hurry. What a waste of time.

Why couldn't they have made an achievement for depleting the entire galaxy... why?
I think because the poor hardcores who want every single achievement would commit suicide in the proccess

If you're that "hardcore" perhaps that wouldn't be such a bad thing......<_<

Didn't have any problem with running out of any resource. Disliked the planet scanning and mining bit - seems like a brake to the momentum of the game. It's like cool - I found an upgrade, then realised that I needed more resources - and its down to carpal-tunnel syndrome inducing drag across the screen.

In the aftermath of the mission that did occur to me - for example - Why didn't Illium stock market crash ? I had ALL the resource minerals in the entire galaxy on my ship - why didn't anyone notice ?
I also found it disappointing that I couldn't sell any - say a few tons of EEZO for credits - which actually raisede another query - what exactly is the quantity in minerals ? I mean sure, the numbers go up when you fire a probe off but numbers of what ? metric tons ? Ounces of element zero ?
In ME1 we harvested elements from downed probes - in ME2 what became of our probes after they teleported the material resources from their target zone into our cargo holds ?
Boredom was a huge problem by the way - I imagined crew meetings in the cdomm room with everyone ****ing about yet another survey stop but I, the oratory master, commander shepard would scathingly ask them exactly how many fueling depots they thought would be on the other side of the Omega 4 relay =
Yeah, I was bored off my ass doing it but I genuinely believed that I would NEED to burn those resources on the other side of the Omega 4 relay - why else would they be so abundant and why would the game keep telling me that when I run out of fuel my ship would use up resources to move ?
I think they didn't do as solid a job on the 'end game' environment of spacial conditions on the other side of the Omega 4 relay - all those wrecks just begging to be explored, the need fror pinpoint navigation because of competing gravities of black holes, the possibility of running out of fuel(possibly if you didnt have minerals, a few missions to wrecks to salvage fule resources) - none of which was there - the Omega 4 relay was simply a means to an end - to get to collector base - everything non essential to the base itself was just window dressing.
Very Disappointing.

I've never tried this but what happens if you completely neglect to do any planet scanning, have zero resources, no fuel in the tank and you can't make it to the nearest relay/fuel depo? Do you just get stranded? Do you have to contact the Illusive Man to sheepishly ask him to send an intergalactic pickup truck because your fuel management is total balls?
you canot get ANy resource to zero - I tried. I have always wondered though, if Cerberus is so wealthy an organization - why am I always scrabbling for credits tpo buy upgrades ? am i not getting PAID ? Why also does the credit counter have 6 digits in it when I NEVEr manage to get it over 4 ?

I would probably lose what little sanity I have left if I tried to do that. Although I will admit that on my first time through I depleted probably 4 or 5 entire systems before I looked up if there was a better way to do it.

You would think that some of the inhabited planets that you suck dry of resources would take offense as well.

If you count credit as a resource you can get it to -4. Happened to me as I had only a few hundred credits left - 296 to be precise. I flew the Normandy to a fuel station, stocked up on probes, still 96 credits left.
Refueled as the Normandy's tanks were running near empty and bam! -4 credits.

Wha...? My latest playthrough(imported a 55 from ME1) was able to buy every single upgrade on Omega, The Citadel, Illium, and Tuchanka. Then again, I didn't waste credits on pointless and expensive crap like Fish and the retarded hampster.
In case you haven't been reading the mission debrief at the end of each of them, the majority of your credits*are* from Cerberus funding.
edit: Also, if you only mine the Rich planets in the first 3 available clusters(Omega's, The one where Jack is recruited, and the one where Grunt is recruited), you will have 100% of the resources needed for every single upgrade in the game(barring the med-bay one to fix scars.)
