A possible reference. There's a sci-fi book called "The Trilogy of the Abbey" by romanian writer Dan Dobos. A pretty good book, by the way. The Quints are soldiers trained and transformed with the help of technology to become
powerful weapons. Coincidence or not, it fits Grunt's history. Quints used a special metal called accun which can be melded into an instant blade using the wielder's mental abilities. Some sort of mind over matter thingy.

Wishfully. Does this mean we get mass effect blades in ME3?

You can red a review in english here (it's not fantasy, it's sci-fi).

update: oh, and there's also that less scientific yet simpler theory regarding krogan extra balls (quints istead of quads). I'll lend you my Occam's Razor +3 to decide.

ok but, "craps dark matter"? is that part of that books plot, or just another part of the joke?

No. And I don't think Bioware went that far reading stuff to make this nice game. Though they sure done their homework on Frank Herbert and Orson Scott Card (creativity is the art of hidding your sources).

The dark matter part is probably a reference to Nibbler from Futurama. As a salarian I must accept the simpler theory.

Personally, I go in for the 5 balls + nibbler theory. Thanks for the razor. :)

I was just watching Futurama on Comedy Central and i remembered how Nibbler craps dark matter and it suddenly dawned on me.

I always wondered what a quint was and i geuss it's partially a Futurama referance.

Quint = five balls. Craps dark matter is self explanatory

Since the common expression of having guts among the Krogan is you've got a quad, or to translate you've got balls(ie krogan have four testicles, unlike humans who only have two), you have to believe and understand that a Quint is a five testicle Krogan.

Like Alocormin said, dark matter is self explanatory.

So Wrex is just saying he is so much more than a mere ordinary krogan when he says that, and that is what it will take to replace him.
