It seems likely that DA2 will not have an import function.

Think KOTOR to KOTOR 2 type transition.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Morrigan played a role similar to a younger to Flemmeth in DA2. Hopefully she would still look younger than Flemmeth though...

In fact, I hope that DA2 does not continue with the same character. My Warden's story is done.
This.
Using the Warden or the Orlesian in the future dlc or expansions, but leaving their ultimate ending up to the player's imagination would be great. DA isn't built around a single character's story like Baldur's Gate. Constantly reusing the main character isn't going to have the same impact as introducing new protagonists with stronger conections to the locations and events in the sequel.

Honestly? I think that's the absolute best way to go for a sequel as large as Dragon Age.
Have a dialogue at the very beginning where your character can be like "I heard the hero of Ferelden was a woman, a Cousland who married King Alistair. Somehow, they both survived the battle against the archdemon and ruled Ferelden peacefully for many years..." or "I always heard the hero of Ferelden was a Dalish elf who allowed his friend Alistair to sacrifice himself to the archdemon and travelled the world with his lover, Leliana."
Er, the writers could probably do it better than me, but you get the gist.
That way, you have it set it up with specific flag point as far as plot goes, carrying the most important things into the sequel: the Warden's origin and gender, who is king/queen, whether the Ritual was done or not, and who the Warden's LI was. Not to mention you have no need to have played Dragon Age 1 in order to get right into the story. AND since there is no import feature, you can replay two as many times as you want without having to go back and play 1 again if you want to see how it changes in two. One of the things that frustrated me about Mass Effect 2 was the fact that I *didn't* play Mass Effect 1 as man, so when I started up a male character because I wanted to romance Tali, it immediately slated me towards a renegade ending where the character I just made...wouldn't have done that at all.
I don't know how complicated it would be to impliment, but I played KOTOR 2 plenty of times and never encouranted a problem, so who knows?

I have a hard time believing 2/1/2011 will be a DA sequel, as they mentioned they are completing redoing the graphics engine. If it IS, I will be very very surprised and interested to see what route they take with the plot.
As for reusing the current characters, there is always the Baldurs Gate II route of starting in prison or something similar where you lose everything (ME 2 used this basic story device)...we will see though.

If I cant import my character I wont be playing DA2. I loved what they did in ME2 and will be very disappointed if I dont get the same from Dragon Age.
I am hoping a sequel continues and wraps up our PCs story from Origins. There was far too much left of my PCs story to just end as it did.

The whole '100 years later... in a land far away...' approach has its merits if used properly.

First of all, they won't set DA2 off any further than 60 years.. Because then they won't be able to call it Dragon Age because by then it will be a new age.. Second of all: Just because an expansion pack doesn't utilize the saved files you got, doesn't mean the actual sequel won't.... Why are people being pesimistic prematurely? Wait until some BioWare official tells us about the sequel (if it even is a sequel) otherwise... STFU.. really... You know squat about what is gonna happen, stop being a doomsayer... Jeez...
Will you marry me?
But seriously, I agree. I would just like for them to go ahead and say either "Yes, you will be the Warden" or "No you won't."
I would still play DA2 either way, but I'd prefer playing my original character.

There are still way too many things that he needs to do, like ruling over the crows with Zevrhan and my bad-ass dog, and reuniting with Morrigan and my child, and beating down the asswipe who stole my sword.
They either need to release some DLC/expansions that tie up any loose ends, or simply allow us to import our characters into DA2.

I cried a little inside when I saw that horrible ending.
So did I. My character stays in court for a few years, and then just disappears a "few years" later? (and couldn't they have added an ending that SHOWED my character returning to court to be welcomed by Alistair? Come on!) Thank you so much Bioware for telling me that my character took off, which she would never do. Not okay.

DA was never meant to be a series like ME with the same character, the developers have said as much. Even so, I don't think Awakenings gave a real satisfying ending to this Warden's journey, and personally, if nothing else it would be great to see one last expansion that wraps up some loose ends. Something like Throne of Bhaal where there was no question as to where your character stood and you could walk away happy.
I could not agree more.

Well, the problem here is that a good chunk of people (myself included) didn't get any closure for many of the important parts of their Warden's stories. There's a fine line between "leaving things up to the player's imagination" and a story that's just been poorly concluded from a writing perspective - and for a lot of the people who played Awakening, it was a tad closer to the latter.

I know Bioware realizes how much fans get involved with the characters. I still need to reunite with my redheaded bard and of course, my other character has to see Morrigan...one last time before the end...

Especially without Alistair by myside, it didn't say I left with Alistair. There'd better be a dang good reason why my character left. Despite the way Awakenings ended like other's have said, there really wasn't no closer which I'd like to see, maybe in another expansion before DA2 comes out if we aren't going to be able to play our previous characters. Give us some real closer, the way this ended it felt like a cliffhanger. And I'd still like to know if a baby was ever possible dang it lol.
What I'd like to see in DA2 if we can't use our character is maybe we were able to have a kid and we play them. That would be cool, continue on the family line lol. Haha wouldn't that be interesting, your child (which is an adult by then) coming across Morrigan's and having to deal with it if it's gone bad. Think of how you would feel if it was your half brother/sister. Actually that might make for an interesting game lol.
