 I'm playing a rogue, and don't have much use bringing zev out with me to boost his fondness of me.I also don't want to play the metagame of taking a halfhour-hour of talking to him & buying him gifts just to get him to like me, when  I'm not actually interested in him this play through.

So, is there a tome I can buy to unlock assassin & if so please tell me where. I did some searching & the best answer I could find anywhere was the "I think you can buy it too, but I don't remember where I saw it..." type answers

You should be able to buy one in Denerim after the Landsmeet.

Eh, where? The alienage shop people claim sells it was closed for me throughout the game. Was I too evil?

No, the alienage is closed because of the city elf origin hitting the fan and killing the Arl's son ...
