...without having to mind if the game is going to crash every time it changes it's ****ing form.
Seriously, the Sloth demon is maybe the 3rd most difficult boss in game, and it's still the buggiest part of DA:O. It's just so damn frustrating to kill it's 3rd or 4th form just to get your game crashed to desktop it nearly made me quit the game in my 1st playthough. And now I'm in the 2nd and I'm having the same damn problem.
Bioware, patch it NOW. Seriously. It's just FRUSTRATING.
BTW, does anybody know any workaround for the crashes? Or just to pray that it doesn't crash until I beat the demon?
The Sloth demon is difficult enough to beat...

Confirmed...crashed for me 4 times in a row when changing from 3rd to 4th form. Gamebreaking bug (...).
(*Updated..now it's 4, and I'm not trying it any more).

Bump for 3rd time crashing.
Any tip of how to pass though it is welcome (even if I must use cheats...I'd beat the demon anyway, so I guess it wouldn't matter).

I did the sloth demon without any issue, which version of the game you have, if you have patch 1.3, it may explain these crashes as it seems to be rather common

Posté 18 mars 2010 - 08:09
Latest Steam version, so 1.3 I guess.

I know, its a common problem right now, affecting both Origin and Awakening, patch 1.3 makes my computer crash every 10 to 20 minutes
#7
Posté 18 mars 2010 - 08:40
Not the case here...I've been playing the game practically non-stop since the patch was released, and by now only the Sloth demon part has caused crashes for me. And, as I've already said, it crashed for me once in my 1st playthough (just when I was close to killing him), and in that time, 1.3 patch wasn't released yet.
And generally speaking, the game has never crashed for me but in this cursed combat. And I'm close to 90 game hours.

I wish I can help you, played Dragon Age Origin non stop in previous patch, beside the sometime cruel lenght of loading time, I didnt have much of a problem, but since I bought Awakening and this darn patch that came with it. All went to hell, cant play a full 30 minutes before my cpu crashes and need a hard reset.
My game at this very moment is unplayable, and I hope to see a fix soon

I hope it so. Although my game doesn't randomly crash (at least by now), I'm mostly stuck right now. I'm tempted to use cheats to beat that part, although I seriously don't want to do it (and it'll probably crash anyway).
In my first playthough it crashed only once in that battle, but now it's just always crashing...

That is weird, as I mentioned before, I never had such a problem, I admit the fight can be harsh and lenghty but never did it caused me issue. Mind you, I believe the hardest fight of all is the slavers in the alienage. I guess it depends on your team but that fight always made me pissed.

hmmm...if I remember well, that fight was piece of cake for me. Just take advantage of cover and ambushing. If you face a dozen of enemies just straight ahead, you'll have a difficult battle for sure. The best tactic is to leave your group somewhere behind cover, then take one of them as a "scout", approach the group of enemies and alert/attract them. That way, nearly always a small group will be stupid enough to go to your trap, where your comrades can take them away quickly.
Also, if there's a group of enemies that use ranged attacks and doesn't come to your trap, spells like Fire ball or Inferno will get rid of them quickly (especially Fireball...your mages (or yourself) should have it by now, and it's very useful, as ranged enemies are normally weak ones). Cast them while your group is still under cover.
Using that, you should have killed all enemies but the boss. Just make your group charge to him, maybe (if possible) paralyzing/stunting him before your charge, to make sure he doesn't launch any ranged spells while the close combatants get him.
The most difficult battles for me are those ones where there are multiple enemies + a powerful boss, and where cover is impossible (I REALLY hate them, and unfortunately there are lots of them....the final Circle of Mages boss, the dwarven criminal boss, etc..).

4th time, same crash at the same time...and I'm not sadistic enough to keep trying...

Yes, like the slaver battle in the alienage, the only way I was able to beat that with my current team was to use the hallway as cover, stay away from the boss AOE and try to attract as many of his followers to their doom, it was a lenghty process but it worked.

It's one of my favourite tactics. It makes profit of poor AI, but oh well...if it works...
There's a special part of the Veil that is difficult...in some time you'll find yourself alone against 5-6 mages at once, and unless you've a REALLY powerful char, this tactic is mandatory (I attracted 2 of them, then killed them, attracted/killed one more, then killed the only ones left), as just charging at them (even in any Veil form) is practically suicidal.
And it's not as lenghty once you catch the trick of it

I have to tactics for that, 1, let the mages kill themselves, sometime they fight each other, 2, I use the burning man form

After install of patch 1.03 started to have crashes either at start of or about halfway through big fight scene next thing i know i`m staring at the desktop (scratches head and giggles) after several attempts lowered visual settings and now play in windowed mode and so far (fingers crossed) no more crashes with at least three hours of play

I guess 1.03 is what is causing all the mess with everything. It sounds to me like a bad implementation of Awakening support.
I certainly could have waited some extra 1 or 2 weeks for Awakening if they needed that time to polish those bugs (and to add DLC support). Haste makes waste

Bioware ticket? What's that?

Patch 1.02 ( not A or B ) seems to be the most stable so far. As for the Sloth's difficulty well he is rather painfully easy enough in nightmare I guess its the play style + party setup that wins.

Well, I've to agree. In my 1st and 2nd try it was painfully HARD. But trying over 6 times to kill it just to get a crash in one of his transformations gives you A LOT of practise...now it's a piece of cake for me, too

I made a customer support request to the bioware website stating the crashing issue and sent my specs, a ticket is basically a customer support request. They usually should respond within 24 hours, however, they have not yet. Which worries me a bit.

I'll do the same. I don't expect an answer, but well..at least they'll know a new serious patch is needed.
....err, do you know how to do it?
