I've recently started another playthrough, as a Vanguard this time. My previous run as an Infiltrator let me personally access all the crates, boxes and electronics in the game.
My Vanguard lacks Electroics skill.
HOW do I open these things then? I have squad mates with electronic abilities, but no one seems to understand what I want them to do.
How to get squad mates to open things for you? Or am I just stuck not opening these things?

How do you control squad in ME1?

You don't. The electronics skill is shared (and I believe stacked, but don't quote me on that). Your squad's is just not high enough.

its not stacked. whoever has the highest value will be used. if shep has 4 and garrus has 5, garrus's score will be used.

Make Garrus or Tali your lock picker. Garrus is the best since he can do some damage. And does more then talk about his people's culture for hours.

Garrus randomly switches to his sniper, and Tali to her shotgun. It's more of a choice of what you need to complement your own weapon use.

Why would you even assume you had to order a teammate to do this?

KOTOR I thought the same thing the first time I played. But then I read the manual.GnusmasTHX wrote...

But he's already played both games and you don't do any such thing in either...
Granted you need at least someone WITH hacking in your party... Guess he just wasn't thinking very hard/rolled with no Tech in his squad and didn't realize you might need a hacker to hack hackable things.

must've been a brain fart. Or failure to read the skill's details.
