Got this game day 1. And as far as the actual game is concerned, it's awesome. One of the best RPGs I've played, and I really really enjoy it.

When it's NOT crashing every ten minutes. I've had this problem since I've installed the game. It was crashing, sure but it would happen maybe every hour or so. Now, I can't get more than one battle finished before it crashes again. I tried so many things to keep this from happening. I've Installed 3 different versions of nVidia drivers. The latest beta drivers, the current drivers, and 190.62 drivers. None of those help this problem. I've defragged my hard drive, nothing. I have the DAO patch. I've messed with the in-game graphics settings.

Nothing works, I dunno what to do. I've debated with getting a new graphics card just so that I could maybe play this game with no issues. I have a lot of graphical issues too. Like when things die, there a big blood colored square around the body. Sometimes fire doesn't look like fire, just orange flickering squares. Same thing with some spells.

But it's the crashes that are really getting underneath my skin and making this game so frustrating to play. I already have a hard tome with the combat anyway, but when the game crashes in the middle of a big battle or something, it's rage inducing. And it happens so often.

I really want to enjoy this game, but these issues are completely ruining the experience. If anyone has possible solutions that'd be great. I really love the game, but this sucks.

Here's my rig.

GeForce 9800gtx
4 gigs of ram
3.0ghz dual core cpu
64 bit Vista

Is the crashing only occurring while the game is running?

Are you using the 64bit graphics drivers?

I've seen a lot of posts on here from people having problems with the patch. Were you having problems with the game before the patch?

Yeah, before the patch it was doing the same thing. I dunno if the crashes have become more frequent since the patch, but it kinda feels like it. Since I very first got the game, it's been crashing.

I'm not having any of those problems with the game not starting up because of the patch, nothing like that. And yeah, I have the 64bit drivers.

I can't remember if Vista has a compatibility mode. If you right click the exe file maybe you can find one under properties and try running it in WinXP compatibility mode?

Maybe check the event logs under Administrative Tools (in the Control Panel)? It might show the errors causing the crashes.
