Some enemies like krogan are extremely heavy and it's difficult to lift them high above the ground, whether you use singularity or lift. However, if enemies are moving, you can use their own kinetic energy to empower the singularity or lift. This way you can lift enemies far higher above the ground than if you cast the spells with them just standing around. Krogan and geth destroyers are known to storm towards you, developing incredible kinetic energy. If you can use their entire energy to empower your lift or singularity, you can throw them 50 metres above the ground. Even if they hit a wall, the damage dealt by lift or singularity is incredible, since they hit the wall at full speed. Use decryption to overheat their weapons to prevent them from shooting you while they storm towards your location.
Another trick is that you can actually stack several spells to move enemies higher and higher. Begin with lift empowered by the kinetic energy of the enemy storming towards you, followed by your singularity, followed by Liara's singularity, followed by Stasis to recharge spells, followed by yet another 2 singularities and so forth. There are instant death areas in the game where enemies will immediately die if you can get them there, for example, if you manage to throw enemies over a wall on Virmire/Feros where no textures are present on the other side of the wall, they will immediately die. You can throw them over walls using Throw, the problem here is to actually get them high enough above the ground (to raise them above the wall). I actually managed to throw a Geth Prime and a krogan warlord into instant death areas, raising these heavy bastards high enough above the ground is a terrible pain in the ass, but it does work, you just need to try it again and again.
Check out some screenshots that illustrate these techniques:
