As I've talked about in other similar threads, all of the Awakening epilogues go a long way towards cutting all ties the Warden-Commander has with Ferelden and even the Grey Warder order itself. It's highly likely the next game will take place in a new land - Orlais seems likely, given Arl Foreshadow's notes, Tevinter is another good candidate - wherein the political and socio-economic state of Ferelden is largely irrelevant and could easily be handled with some throw away dialogue, with the flags set in an early conversation a la KotOR II.

The Warden could very easily remain the central character without him needing to be in Ferelden fighting darkspawn in service of the Order.

Very well put.

Same thing crossed my mind after reading the Awakening ending for my Warden.

Seems like they were seting up the stage for adventures outside Ferelden with our DA:O Warden.

They learned after ME2 basically completely ignored your choice at the end of ME1( Spoiler!!!!!- no matter if u say, kill or ignore council new ones appear like magic in ME2, even if you said screw em make a human only empire...... it just dissapears and its back to the way it was like nuthin happened??? END Spoiler!!!!!) They decided to make endings that didnt effect the entire realm(Thedas) barring minor things that could be easily implemented into DA2 (Vigilance being stolen and in some unkown land now for example). So now Fereldan is reallatily unimportant to DA2 and thus they can just mention it as a cameo and it wont ruin the story ( Spoiler - Like having a human only controlled council kinda would in ME2, cause then u woulda had every1 workin with u rather than ignorin u).

My ending with my female Rogue Elf said she quit being commander and went back to Denerim to be with Alistar her love.

The problem is Alistar sacrificed himself to kill the arch deamon on this characters end game. He was dead... So who and what exactly did my elf go run off with? Justice in Alistar's body? I don't know.

Kind of made me mad.

A few thoughts:

The more I think about Awakening the more disappointed by it I am, and if you don't think it's rushed, how do explain the absurd amount of massive, game-changing bugs.

Right now it seems more likely than not that you will get a new character in DA2, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

If they do use the Warden from DAO, I really think they need to start him from scratch at level one, Awakenings proved that they have basically run out of ideas in terms of new abilities for most types of character. Most of the new abilities either didn't work well or were a bit silly. Also most characters end up with way more activated abilities than they will ever be able to use.

The whole Mother/Architect thing was terrible. Indeed, at this point anything that smacks of a retcon of the established storyline is probably ill-advised. The Darkspwan threat, and the rest of the setting may have seemed a little clichéd to some, but at least it was solid, fundamental fantasy setting story telling. The more layers you start adding, the more risk you run of making the story ridiculous, and uninteresting.

I love the idea of a romance with Justice in Alistair's body. Hilarious.

Heh, my ending was my warden and Alistair going off to have adventures and the two stayed together.... It's going to be pretty weird if my warden carries over to DA2 and he's not there. lol

Does Alistair only vanish with you if he's married to Anora in DAO? I've played through Awakenings once having married Alistair in DAO, and all I got was the sucky 'warden buggers off alone for some reason' ending. If I've got to go hunt down Morrigan/die in the Deep Roads, I'm taking that man with me. In his small clothes.

Alistair vanishes with you if he's just a warden and you choose to stay with the Wardens... Basically your off having totally awesome Grey Warden adventures.

Bums. Oh well off for yet another playthrough. I am determined my warden is not to go gallivanting about the place without dragging Alistair along with her.
