I absolutely LOVE being Renegade. It strenghtens my soul actually haha

Its hilarious being an **** in Mass Effect! Especially if your Shepard looks like the Governator.. LOL

Though my prefered way of playing is 25% Paragon and 75 % Renegade with the likeness of John McClane ;-)

I personally prefer 65% paragon / 35% renegade play. Being good guy doesn't mean you have to be a wuss.

Given how bad the renegade answer usually turn out, i don't do them often. I am trying to renegade it up more on this play through to see all the answers and yeah, they are not renegade, but basically jerk. The best example i can give is the first one that happens in game. You are trying to convince LI from ME1 to get ff the ship. You paragon answer is I need you to get everyone off the ship, I'll go get joker. Hey not bad.

Renegade ends with you saying I'll drag jokers crippled ass off the ship. that isn't being a renegade, that is just being a jerk. Personally insulting someone over a physical disability they were born with when they aren't even there serves no purpose except to be a jack ass.

Well, you are in a ship that is FALLING APART AROUND YOU IN FLAMES. I'm not blaming Shepard having bit harsh tone in that situation.

Yeah the world is falling apart and also he just got back from the dead. Joker was even one of the factors that got Shepard killed! The first time... And the second.... My Shepard would be a dick to Joker too! Image IPB

Do you slip into racial slurs as soon as you are in a preasure situation?  Becuase its basically the same thing.  Lets say Joker was a healthy Black male, and instead shepard said I'll drag his Nword ass out of here, would you go oh well the ship was falling apart and dude he is totally renegade.

Renegade is an arbitrary term given by BioWare to their 'ideal' badass method of playing.

A soul is a fictitious spiritual entity that is supposedly what makes people themselves.

Thus being "Renegade" does not hurt my "soul." Have a nice day.

Yes, I would. If having to resort in racial slurs while getting crew to evacuate, so be it. And I doubt Joker would be that offended, comrades in arms and all.

What is the renegade response on the deck when talking with Joker, btw?

But my point is going to that insult does not help get crew off the ship.  it does not help at all.  It is adding an insult because Shepard is a prejudiced jack ass not because it was more effective.  If you are frustrated at him still being on the bridge, you can say it.  you can even be snide and insulting, but slipping into slurs about a birth defect just shows Shepard to be prejudiced and innefective.

Playing through a pure Renegade right now. I always play Paragon w/ a bit of Renegade thrown in where needed. So far, worst thing was letting the Salarian die at the Towers as he begged someone to help him. Then, as he lay dying, he begged my Shep to help his friends. My Cruella Deville looking femshep just blew him off. Although finding out that my Shep could be more psychotic than Jack was interesting.

You know its wierd on a practical level I always healed peope, dead people don't give me info.  I can see an argument that you are saving your medigel for your self and your companions, but I'll need less medigel if I know what to expect.(in a non metagame sense).  I force my self to do the renegade things here on my renegade run but it just seems dumb, not renegade or even practical.  It is not arguement worthy, like I said i can see a  reason for why people would let him die, I just don't think it holds water.

Good point there, real commander gets his orders throught with first try. Guess I'm just too foulmouth person to notice when I'm out of line. Bad personality flaw.

I am foolishly foul mouthed.  One of my friends kids was telling his mom about why he din't like playing with another kid at schooll   this is the story.
Mom "Why don't you want to play with him"
Kid "He gets in trouble a lot"
Mom "What kiind of trouble"
Kid "He says bad words a lot, even more than Uncle Ray"

Guess who I am in the story.  I swear even when I know I shouldn't like around kids.  But maybe because I am from Hippie Liberal Town things like racial slurs don't work for me.

If he had said I'll drag that  ***** moron off the ship, I'd of been fine.

I fully agree and usually help people just because it's the right thing to do.  Also, I typically don't kill people who are unarmed or helpless so I don't sound like a hypocrite when busting Samara's chops. Just on this particular playthrough, this particular femShep is more psychotic than Jack and Morinth put together.

Funny thing is I am looking forward to the Jack loyalty quest this renegade time.  Every time before she wanted to kill him and I was "are you sure, or don't give itno your hate or whatever"  I saw the cutscene on the renegade side and its epic psychopath.

When I played ME1, I was mostly paragon, but as time went on, I took more and more renegade actions. On my second play through, I was an total renegade and it was hilariously funny.

ME2 while it does have it moments, i am now mostly an balanced out between renegade and paragon. I liked it though, I had the best of the both worlds as far as I was concerned, when dealing with merc's, corner and such, sometimes I was an total dick if the situation called for it in my opinion. I was mostly Just nice to my crew and mostly a complete dick to other people when it was called for it.

Personally like the renegade option this time around, Shepard isn't just a Xenophobe doushe and is instead just more aggressive in general.

I find myself unsure of what Bioware defines as "renegade" nowadays.

Lot of times in game I often wondered, "why did they give me renegade points for that?"

I can't be mean to Tali, but I can't hug her. She's gotta toughen up a bit.

I don't mean to pick on you because it's Tali.  I honestly would feel this way if you replaced Tali with just about any other person.  Dudette, she lost her father!  '...toughen up a bit.'  Wow.

Glad I shed no tears in over ten years else you'd probably think me a wimp too!  Compassion, girl!  Compassion!:D

I see the problem you feel, and I can empathize to a degree, but I eventually realized that creating a character and basing decisions around what he would do proved easier and more entertaining. However, the main obstacle in this was Bioware's tendancy to want players to go one way or the other, with little room for middle ground. Generalizing, most of the dialogue choices break down to:
  • Paragon: "I'm here to serve and save lives/correct injustice."
  • Neutral: "Let's get this done."
  • Renegade: "I'm getting this done, and to hell with anyone who gets in my way." (In some cases, "I'm a dick.")
So, I realize throughout the game that going with only Paragon choices makes a 'good guy' character, but at times this is taken to the point that Shepard almost becomes overly pacifistic in his dealings. I cringed after the Normandy's inspection in ME1 when Paragon Shepard says, "We need to cooperate if we want to win hearts and minds."
Looking to the neutral path is usually alright, but it seems to leave out a great deal of dialogue content. Without a markedly high willingness to be heroic or an uncanny ruthlessness, Shepard loses the distinguishing personality that makes him an enjoyable character.
The Renegade spectrum has admittedly some of the most satsifying and entertaining remarks and actions, but clinging solely to it leads to Shepard performing quite a few "random acts of dickotry," or even a disturbing ambition being shown, which I didn't much want my character to have.

Really, the final solution I found was simply situational reactions. My character is a Paragon at heart -- he does the big Paragon decisions, and generally treats people with civility. By these means alone, I'm able to create a reasonably consistent Paragon character. This allows room for another aspect of Shepard's character: to people who have earned his ire, whether by wronging him or a squadmate, or some other injustice, my Shepard does not extend his usual civility. He undermined the power-hungry mercenaries on Omega, he chewed out Conrad Verner upon seeing him dicking around a bar, and did not bar Garrus from his revenge against the traitor Sedonis, among other things.

From an in-game perspective, this creates (what I find to be) a believable and dynamic character. Out of game, this gets enough paragon/renegade points to establish this and that, and it gives me the happy medium of playing a good character with some of the intensity of ruthlessness.

The only renegade option I wouldn't do was Morinth or the ones that deprive me of a follower (Legion). Scars are cool.
