I've been playing around with the toolset and have noticed that it will not open my post game saves that have finished the Return to Ostegar mission. The program tries to open the save and runs out of memory. Is this a known issue or is this due to the fact that I now need to have the RTO files open in memory?

It's a known issue. Unfortunately, once your savegame reaches a critical size, you can't open it in the gff editor anymore. You can try with an older savegame, maybe ?
