Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing (ironic title, because you usually go UNDER the road).

The part from 0:50 and beyond reminds me of the Mako in ME1...

Bad gaming idea?

How about the Nintendo Wii. Motion control works well with only a hand full of games and everything else is just gimmicky and un responsive. Even Zelda The Twilight Princess's waggle controls got irritating. So much so I ended up trading it in for the Gamecube version.

in this we agree. i hate the freakin wii. worst controllers ever. talk about lowest common denominator.

I think the Wii is by far the most under-utilized gaming machine we have ever owned. It just sits there unnoticed. Part of that is probably because nobody actually wanted it(got it as a gift for Christmas 08), besides maybe my steps. The Wii controller kills it for me. Imprecise piece of junk.

I think the biggest problem with the Wii is that it's trying to fix something that isn't broken. Since when did regular control pads become obsolete?

If you want to sell a gimmick, go ahead but don't base an entire system on it.

The Wii-mote could have easily just been sold as a Gamecube peripheral

I think the Wiimote is crap for the most part. There are a few games that work well with it like No More Heroes but almost everything else sucks.

I was under the impression that they weren't trying to fix it but evolve it...

Yeah, the Wii-mote is about as "evolutionary" as the powerglove.  The Nintendo Wii is no different than if Nintendo decided to make a console based on the rumble pack.

I agree that it wasn't evolutionary but it was made to be evolutionary, and failed...

The problem with the Wii is not the controls (you just have to flick your wrist, you could argue that PC gaming is more strenuous if you use a KB+M), but it's a mixture of the console and the games.

The console has never been marketed as a "games unit", it reminds me a lot more of, in the words of Will Wright, "a toy". And you just have to look at the games for it and see just how right he is. There are very few "serious" games for it, most of them appealing to Mrs Smith down the road who wants to lose a few stone when the kids are at school, and when they're back they can waggle their sticks and make Mario jump.

It's a console that prides itself on being a gimmick and isn't ashamed to be one, and that's where it falls down. It's cut out, for the most part, a good sized chunk of the market. I honestly expect the number of pre-owned Wiis to get bigger and bigger because people get bored/frustrated with it.

Man I think I'm about ready for the next wave of Next Generation consoles. I will be ecstatic if we hear even a sliver of news of such at this year's E3.

Back to the subject of bad game ideas...

Well, I could mention Nintendo making the N64 cartridge based but I think everyone already agrees that that was stupid.

I think non-interactive cut-scenes are bad ideas when we have companies like Bioware making games that give the player the freedom to make choices in the direction of the game's story.

I'm not saying get rid of them completely, just use them sparingly. Games like Metal Gear Solid 4 which have hours upon hours of pretentious, non-interactive movie footage are unacceptable.

the one thing i like about the wii is it made nintendo relevant again. now they just need to make a new system that is aimed at people who play video games and not game shows or work out videos.

A Wii with next gen console performance would be nice. And a healthy library of M rated games. And sports games that aren't aimed at 8 year olds. And a ceasing of running the Mario brand into the ground from massive overuse.

Nintendo has a really good opportunity to jump ahead in the upcoming Next Generation console wars.

Microsoft took the initiative by releasing the Xbox360 a full year before the Wii and Playstation 3 and it was a sound move. By the time the PS3 and Wii were out, the Xbox360 already had a large library of games.

Nintendo could benefit from this greatly, especially since they have so many well established franchises. They could release a Zelda game on the same day that the next Xbox or Playstation is released to take away some of their steam.

Nintendo will need to release it's new console a good 6 months or more prior to Microsoft or Sony. Although, Nintendo has pretty much created the stigma of "kid gamer company" for itself. So, it's likely that a lot of gamers will simply wait for the system(s) that they know will have games that they want to play.

Nintendo needs to change their image if they're looking to compete with the Xbox and Playstation, but I'm not really sure that they are.

I also think it's important that the next Nintendo console actually have superior hardware than the Playstation 3's and Xbox360's. It can't just be a Wii with high definition graphics. That would be stupid as Hell.

Thinking that buying a successful title to make a sequel will instantly make it also successful. No matter how bad that sequel is.

Master of Orion 3 comes to mind...

Facebook has games? I've never used facebook or myspace or any social networking website for that matter but I always figured they were just hubs for underage teens to hook up with pedophiles and for attention seeking college w**res.

Bad ideas in gaming: Releasing a platform that has no games.

Only thing worse is NOT releasing a platform that you bragged about for years. Oh, and it still has no games. (The Phantom)

Releasing a platform with the same name that doesn't run games from the previous generation. (Oh hai Nintendo and Sony!)

they have horrible, putrid web based games that make me want to puke. almost everyone i know plays them too. it's like sitting in a room of people playing tetris and im'ing each other about their high scores.

Call me crazy but I thought there was a difference between a social networking site and a message board believing this to be the latter.

If Facebook is just a blog, how did it's CEO become a billionaire I wonder.
