Well to be honest, it seems bioware likes sticking to plots.  I am sure you are aware of the whole Mass effect and Dragon Age has the same plot thing.  (Grey Wardon = Spector = Cerberus, Darkspawn = Reapers, ext). 

Going back on what bioware said when they where releasing info on Dragon Age: Origins.  "This game is a spiritual successur to Balders Gate" (not a direct quote). 

Its called Dragon Age: ORIGINS because its the origin story of how the real protaganist came into being.

Its simple, the cannon will be for DA2 that Allistar is king and that either the PC or alistar (they will make in ambigouse) will be the father of the real protaganist and morrigan will be his mother.  I believe it will be this way because, like baulders gate, the story is about a person with a big of godhood in them.  I am sure its probably posted somewhere else, but I feel i have to express it myself after reading so many "what about morrigan" posts. 

Unlike Mass Effect, they are not intrested in transfering your choices in the game.  They are just setting up for an epic real protaganist that you could say "Oh, I know how he got his start". 

I will also say that there will be one more expansion for DAO.  My guess is that it will probably deal with tracking down Morrigan for some reason or another or it will deal with the Treventor empire and the old gods.
